Prologue
"They're just HUMANS!" I yelled at the screen in front of me.
"I know that, Captain Obvious." The screen replied to me.
"What am I supposed to do with weak, good-for-nothing, stupid-"
"WHAT IN THE STARS NAME DID YOU EXPECT?!"
The screen had lost its patience, replying to me with a strong stern tone.
"That the Greek gods to come down from the sky to aid you in your work? Your planet is
dead
remember?" She finished, emphasizing on the "dead".
"Yes. Yes, I remember vividly." I said with no feelings whatsoever.
I hated my planet. I hated my parents. I hated that I had to do this alone. I hated the fact that I was even born. I hated the fact that my mother had locked me in a casket-like box to grow, feed, and learn in.
I didn't grow up like the other kids. All because my mother heard of a "prophecy".
I hated that.
But I guess destiny is put here in this unpredictable universe for a reason.
"You will go to XXXX Public High School." The screen said snapping me back to reality. She zoomed in on a map, pinpointing the school with a red dot. "There, you will find your
recruits
."
The screen then went black. Out of it came 7 ember-like stones, each with a sign embedded in them; A clock, a puppet, 2 axes intertwined, a rock shaped fist, an ice crown, dispersed air, and a small cartoon microcontroller.
"Recruits," I said daydreaming. It had a nice ring to it. But when I looked at the screen I just knew there was something...missing.
"Where's mine?" I said.
You could feel the screen smile at that moment. "You have good eyes little one."
I wanted to point out the fact that I wasn't little. If I converted my Asbatarian years to human years I'm supposed to be way older than the age I would be hanging around.
But I kept that little joy to myself.
Especially when I saw my stone come forward.
It was bright yellow, almost blinding if not careful. The sight of it overtook you. Almost as if you were starting at a sunset or a beautiful, eye catching painting. Inside was a yellow heart with a crack. Inside the crack was a red lightning bolt. The one thing, though, that disturbed my little ball of joy was that I had understood the power of all the other stones, but why couldn't I understand mine?
"What does it mean?" I asked the screen, still not taking my eyes of the ember stone.
"Only time will tell." The screen stated bluntly.
But that statement became a ringing thought to that I allowed to sink in.
"Only time... will tell..." I repeated silently.
"Now, " The screen started. "Get you stuff. You have a long day tomorrow. Luckily my technology has been up to date and upgraded." She said almost sounding prideful. "So I'll take care of accommodations, forms, and everything under that category."
"Thank you, Pheonix," I said taking a breather while I mentally and physically prepared myself for the days to come.
I also wanted to ask how I would know the people to choose.
But my consciousness answered for me.
Only time will tell.
