Chapter 1: Hope

It’s only been a day on this island and I want to leave. Billy thought to himself. My team is probably the worst team in the world. We can barely complete anything! We’re stuck in a maze and we literally have no idea how to get out. If the other team finds the exit before us, it would be game over.

“What’s wrong Billy?” Sarah asked, approaching Billy who was sitting against the tree, head in hands.

“Isn’t it a bit annoying how we are probably going to lose our first game which would mean we would be at risk of getting voted down? We barely played anything.” Billy replied to Sarah as she walked and sat down next to him.

“We haven’t known each other for very long but what I know is that you won’t be out. You’re such a likeable and amazing person, besides it’s not the end! I wouldn’t imagine anyone voting you out”. That seemed to be the words he needed. His head, full of thoughts, finally became clear. I have an ally. Looks like not everyone was mean.

“Don’t overthink it, Billy,” Sarah said, standing up and offering her hand. He took it. They walked towards the rest of the team, who were, not surprisingly, arguing.

“Oh My God! Can’t you guys just find the stupid exit already!!” Belle screamed to the rest of the team.

“It’s not like you’re helping,” Ben replied, sounding more amused than frustrated.

“Of course I helped, I asked a mouse for directions but all it did was throw a nut at me. The hospitality here is outrageous! If I could I would rate the place a 1/10, I would. I absolutely do not recommend coming here.”

“Mouse?” Asked a voice who turned out to be Billy.

“I think she meant squirrel.” Jayden whispered to Billy, “Guys, the other team’s most likely to be ahead of us. We really should try, nobody wants to go home right?”

“Are you saying I have a chance of being voted out?” Belle said while snapping her hands.

“Excuse me, we are different. Stop comparing an orange and an apple.” She added sassily.

“Quit the attitude!” Marcy shouted back. The harsh words stopped the arguments and Bella’s criticism. Awkwardly, all the attention turned towards Neko, who was sitting and watching the ants walk along the walls of the maze.

“I say we leave him, who’s with me?” Marcy asked as four others raised their hands.

“Guys don’t be mean!” Chloe yelled at Marcy. She knew that it was true- Neko was slowing them down but she didn’t want to hurt his feelings.

“Come on guys, let’s go. It’s every man for themselves now.” Marcy said, flicking her hair in Sarah’s face. Belle, who was right behind her, flicked her hair in Sarah’s face as well, before running to catch up with Marcy.

“I’m not trying to be negative or anything but I think we’re dead,” Billy said to Jake who was speechless.

“Indeed. We are very dead. The other team is definitely ahead of us.” Jake said as Newton looked at Billy, surprised by what he just said before walking towards Marcy and Belle

The other team wasn’t so different. They were also lost but this time they were a bit more cooperative.

“Do you even know where we’re going, Julian??” Asked Ennah who held the map up. Conner and Mary who were next to her both shrugged.

“What do you think, I’m the leader here.”

Mike sighed and sat down on a rock, his hand on his head.

“We passed by this same rock five times.” He said.

“You’re not wrong, and we probably will pass it again if someone stops You, Julian. You’re getting us nowhere!” Sam replied as he snatched the map from Ennah.

“I’m not going to betray us or anything but am I the only one who thinks Jake looks kind of…....handsome? I mean he’s so charming isn’t he?” Mary said, staring into the sun and blushing. Without hesitance, the rest shook their heads in disagreement.

“Boy, I think something’s wrong with her. Are you guys hungry or is it just me?” Tom asked.

“It’s ok guys, we have an 80% chance of surviving and a 97% chance of winning. Not to mention, 60% chance of someone on our team winning the whole competition.” Jolly said while writing more notes in her book.

How did she even get that- Julian thought. This team is killing me. Where is the support? I have been trying my best to help the team win and they discourage me.

The silence was quickly broken by Klarnks phone making noises. He wasn’t the type of kid who would interact.

“Does anyone have a phone here?” Julian asked while looking at Klarnk. A hand went up. It was Ennah’s.

“Try messaging Klarnk.”

“Ok, I said hi….he’s typing,” Ennah said while staring at her phone. “He said……..lol..?”

Mary facepalmed, annoyed with the results.

“I’m hungry,” Tom complained while rubbing his belly as saliva drooled down his mouth.

Mary facepalmed again, Why did I have to end up with a team full of losers? I mean everyone except for Julian. I like him already! I have a very strong feeling that he doesn’t like our teammates either. I mean we do have all the weirdos.

“Look at the fountain!” Iziziebelle screamed while pointing towards an old, mouldy fountain.

“Finally, water,” Tom shouted while running towards the fountain, with his tongue sticking out. He licked the water as if he hadn’t tasted water in a million years. This tastes great. He thought.

“ If this is the fountain it means that we’re close to the exit!” Julian exclaimed to Jolly. The sight of the fountain was hope. He thought to himself. Hope they can succeed.

“Guys we are actually very close!!!” Ennah screamed while running towards Tom, who was still licking the water of the fountain. “Ew, Tom, that’s kinda gross. Don’t do that again.”
