A true jewel!
"A short and beautiful story that allows the reader to focus on the complex emotions the characters experience. With a mix of classical tropes and original twists, this story focuses on Azrael's humanity and her struggle to accept her gifts. I enjoyed the idea that what Azrael needed the most wasn't power or immortality, but understanding and companionship. The moment shared between her and Edgar was selfless and vulnerable, and I applaud the author for creating such a heartfelt scene. Congratulations on winning First Place in The Stupendous Compendious Awards!"
Grieving
"The beginning paragraphs were gripping as we discover Anna is an archangel. I loved your description of what all the angels are responsible for. Gabriel being the one who keeps communication flowing and how he offers her a day as a human. The strangeness of being human again. I can see Gabriel's motive in this story. He knew of two souls that needed to heal and let go, so he sent Anna down the mountain to find Edgar. It is a pivotal point that Anna was the one there at Edgar's son's death. Sorry for the spoiler here, but the whole plot is wonderfully woven. Thank you for writing and amazing story. It brought me healing tears."
Heartfelt
"The setup of the story led me to believe that it would follow very typical tropes in the angel genre. I expected the narrator to be a young adult who would have some sort of sexual/romantic relationship with Gabriel. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this was not the case. When she chanted 'Anna, Anna, Anna' when called Azreal, and when she started talking about her children, I knew that the story would have something that hasn't been explored as much in this genre. My only criticisms are: what was Gabriel's motive when he decided to turn her into a human? There were no stakes, no exchanges, no mention of a deep relationship; and, instead of saying that there was 'no evidence of the boy at all' it would be better if you could describe the house etc in such a way that the readers are able to (slowly) decipher that for themselves. It could add another layer to your story. Overall, I loved the emotion of this piece. My ears felt quiet and my heart felt slow when I read it. Wish it was a little longer, though. Good work!"
Fallen
"What an amazing short story! This book is beautifully written, the way you described the dying man at the start was wonderful, I could picture the scene vividly. One thing I would suggest, maybe try to make the way the archangel tells the story different from how a normal human might tell it, so you get a sense this is a strange occurrence. You could add things like ‘I say mistily’ or make her voice mysterious as to me she seems too much like a human. I absolutely loved this short story, the start was definitely gripping and gave me a thriller vibe. Such a great book, you are such an amazing writer!"
