Summary

She walked into the crowded café, the smell of exotic tea and pages filling her nostrils. She looked around, memories flooding her, bringing her back to a different time, although not necessarily happier. She found his blonde hair, he still hadn't seen her, she could have still left but the need of reckoning was too strong. "I find you well." Her look must have given away more than she wished. "Except for your leg obviously." "Why did you play along with West?" she was still trying to understand the person she had in front of her. "No beating around the bushes I see... Because it seemed what you wanted me to do." He seemed tender, his gestures and behaviour attentive. Too attentive. A description that didn't fit him at all. "Listen I know you don't believe in destiny and all that stuff, but don't you think perhaps we could try and have civil relationship? Especially now that we'll have to work together." "Who told you I don't believe in destiny?" she smiled knowingly, challenging him. "Fine, it will probably make it easier for us." "Maybe we could start again, get to know each other properly for once and see how things go..." he continued tentatively, his voice slightly faltering. "Rushing a bit too much don't you think?" her tone mockingly harsh. "Maybe I should go now." "No please, if you don't want to talk about you, then what about your research?"

Chapter 1 - Crushed

“You have to keep it rested, walk only with crutches and keep the bandage on, you can take it off to sleep and to shower.”

“But doc-”

“I’ll see you in a couple of days when you get results of the scans and blood tests done. Please book an appointment with my secretary, she’ll also help you out.”

“But I can’t rest! I have to get back to work, I can’t just leave!”

“I’m afraid you’ll have to leave work for a while.” Her icy eyes couldn’t stop looking at the clock ticking. Jenna will take my place, and everyone will have so much fun talking behind my back. She wanted to object, to cry, to despair. All of this was so unfair. She hadn’t done anything to deserve any of that. Still it had happened to her.
