Just a Bit of Background
**Author’s Note**
This story is going to attempt to be largely based on the RPG game Dungeons and Dragons. I will attempt to write so if you have never played it, you can still understand what’s going on. However, if you start wondering, well, why didn’t they just do this? It was probably due to class or alignment setup. I can go more in-depth on characters if someone wishes, or if anyone has any ideas I’d try to incorporate them into the story. And yes, I do also post on Wattpad, if anyone would like to follow me there :)
Hope you enjoy it!!
PS: if there’s any bolded text, that’s just a slight note from me for either clarification or just my thoughts/inspiration when I wrote this!!
**Chapter One: Just A Bit Of Background**
There’s one thing you should probably know. Many people look down on my species, which is odd...considering there aren’t many of us. Many people look down on elves, thinking of them as criminals and spies. While that may not be true for all of us, it certainly is for me.
Hi. My name is Levyola of Amastacia, and I’m officially dead, at least in the government’s eyes. If I remember correctly, it was 5, no, 6, years ago. People have been hating on elves for a while now, especially Eladrin Druids. And some people like to choose violence, and the local government does nothing to prevent this they support it. My mother, father, sister, all dead due to my carelessness. If I had just kept my mouth shut and my head hung low, they would still be alive, and who knows? Maybe I wouldn’t be where I am today, living meal to meal. Well, enough dwelling, not like it’s going to get me anywhere productive.
I should probably explain a bit more about me, and the culture I live in.
I am Levyola of Amastacia, 16 human years old, and live in the town of Alnswick. It is a reasonably substantial town, so the proclaimed dead can stay dead.
**Alnswick, when I imagined it, is roughly the size of Chicago or New York**
As I stated before, the government believes me dead, and unmistakably I’m not. I have been living like this for roughly 6 years now. I had a mother, a father, and a sister, but they all perished in a terrorist attack that should have killed all of us.
Yes, I now work with the Underground Networks, a system of criminals, each with their branch yet still connected. There are five branches, each with its specialty.
**Ever read The Court of Miracles by Kester Grant? Yea, I'm borrowing the underground court system, obviously changing it up a bit to fit the world, but still, a very good book, 100% recommend it**
Each Branch works as follows:
The Thieve's Guild: They steal anything, from necessities like food and clean water to valuables that would sell for hundreds of platinum coins on the Dark Market.
The Assassin's Guild: Quite self-explanatory to those with a brain. The Assassin's Guild is, well, assassins. They handle most of the political takedowns, start revolts, overthrow parts of the government, cause chaos, that sort of stuff.
The Smuggler's Guild: This guild helps smuggle illegal goods into or out of Alanswick. These guys probably have it the hardest, as plans sometimes get leaked or someone messes up, and then everybody on that team suffers.
The Beggar's Guild: These people are the only public face of the Underground because their job is to go out in public and beg for cash and whatnot on the street. Usually, when there's a beggar somewhere, a thief is waiting close by to try to take more loot than what was given.
The Flesh Guild: Honestly, they're pretty harmless if they don't get pissed off. They dabble in necromancy and usually do burial rites. Most of our stolen limbs are kept with them, as they know how to properly store and use them. This is the guild to go to for tips on getting away with clean kills.
Then, because this isn't a "real guild" I didn't count it, but we have:
Bouncers: This is the group I belong to. We mainly just, as the name suggests, bounce around to whichever guild needs help.
So there you have it, that's all I can think of for now, as background. Well, if you have enjoyed it so far, read on!
