Summary

Some believe the world would be better without love because it is to much like a fantasy to them. To be able to remove the ability to fall in love someone that will eventually fail us in the end anyway when they leave either by force or choice. They are logical in the way they think and believe we are nothing more than blood and bone wrapped in a meat sack. That we have no souls and that the theory of love is absurd. Well here’s a story that needs to be felt through another person’s hand, seen through another person’s eyes, and breathed through another person’s breath.

Prologue

“Time is very slow for those who wait, very fast for those who are scared, very long for those who lament, very short for those who celebrate; but for those who love, time is eternal.”

-William Shakespeare

Those who do not understand the meaning of time have never loved the way they were meant to. They have never felt the world through another person’s hand, seen it through another person’s eyes, or breathed it through another person’s breath.

Everyone takes the love of another for granted while they are wrapped in each other’s arms. They don’t know what it is like to feel the loss, hate, fear, or greed of another. They stand on the sidelines watching the world pass them by, never realizing that the world could hold so much for them.

Yet none of that matters to those who are in love, the only thing they wanted from the world was the one thing they already held within their arms.

Then there are those who have been too scared to reach out and grab ahold of the one they love. They fear rejection and ridicule from others around them, when what they should really fear is loneliness. They fear taking the chance to open their eyes and see things from another’s point of view, to feel things from another’s skin, or taste the world from another’s mouth. They let the world pass hoping someone will pull them out of the glass bubble they have put themselves in.

Though they are not the worst type of people to the domain of lovers. They can still change who they are and seize the opportunity to love another.

No, the ones I speak of are the lost souls. The ones that braved the loss, hate, fear and greed of others and still came out broken in the end. The ones that are forced to stand the test of time after losing one of the most important things in their lives. Their other half.

They walk through the world like a ghost, never being seen and never seeing. Their eyes are clouded, their touch has faded, and they barely breathe. They have given themselves completely to someone and they can’t continue without them. They began to fade from the world like a memory long forgotten or a history erased because no one remembers it any more.

So the question that floats in the minds of every living being is the following; is love really worth the risk. They ask why should someone spend their entire life with one person that would eventually die leaving you alone in an isolated world.

People that don't understand love ask why would anyone want to go through the pain of having that beautiful bubble, that everyone seemed to agree exists, burst when that person leaves. Whether it’s by choice, with another lover, or by force, such as an illness; why would they want something so fragile. To have something so precious and breakable rule your life would be so foolish.

Well here’s a story that needs to be felt through another person’s hand, seen through another person’s eyes, and breathed through another person’s breath.

This story begins with a young woman. She fell in love when she was young only to lose him when they turned eighteen. She lost herself for a few years. She got a degree in law but lost everyone in her life in the process. She forgot what it meant to be in love or to share love with anyone. She moved away from her small hometown in Mosier Oregon to the big city of Hillsboro.

Years went by as she climbed her way to the top of Chester and Case law firm becoming one of their best attorneys/partners. She never held back in court, fighting tooth and nail, to get what was needed for her client. She never felt bad and didn’t have any regrets. It had been so long since she had lost her love that it had faded into the background. She felt nothing for anyone, never asked for anyone's attention, or wanted anyone’s touch. Her life had become her work and her work had become her lover.

She lived in a small flat on the fifth floor and spent most of her time on her work. She would stay up late reading over files and preparing for her next case. She didn’t sleep often and when she did she had nightmares of that night. The night she lost everything including herself so she refused to sleep unless she absolutely needed to. When she had no cases she would sit and watch TV shows or read. Unfortunately this meant she was truly alone.

This is where our story begins with a young person devoid of life, refusing love, and only a half of a person she could have been. Her name is Alessia.
