Chapter 1
"Lavender, you really must find your mate. It's about time and your not getting any younger." said mother as she put down her cutlery on the silverware. "You have to listen to your mother Lavender. You are almost 21 and you don't seem to be excited about finding him. Everyone dreams of finding their mate; but you don't show the least bit of excitement." he said before taking a sip from his cup of red wine.
"Well maybe it is because I am not like everyone else. I don't want to have my hopes up in case I don't have a destined mate. I am capable of doing well on my own." I said raising my tone by a slight octave.
"I thought that you may say something like that, so I decided to take it upon myself to invite all the single and eligible noblemen around for your birthday ball. All invitations have already been sent out " said my mum in a tone that left no room for argument.
I sighed deeply before going back to my meal. the rest of dinner took place in total silence.
When I was done, I excused myself and went to my room. My maids helped me to slip out of my pink dress and into my silk black night dress before I climbed into bed and fell into a dreamless slumber.
