Chapter 1

Jason

Walking into the brick modern-style house, I looked for Darius, but was greeted by Dawn. She was beautiful with her caramel skin and big dark brown eyes. She had long curly brown hair that stopped in the middle of her back. The red t-shirt dress she wore stopped right at her knees and hugged all her curves. She was curvy in all the right places and stood at 5’6 without heels. She had no stomach, but even if she did, I would still love her.

She pulled me into her room and closed the door behind us. I was surprised as she put her arms around my neck and began to kiss me. I absolutely loved it. I have loved Dawn since we were kids, but she never seemed to have the same feelings for me.

Then I remembered something and pulled away. “What about your husband?”

“I don’t want to be with him anymore.”

Still confused, I asked, “So are you saying you would leave him for me?”

“Yes, I want to be with you.” Her answer made me so happy but also worried. I didn’t want to mess up a happy home.

“Well, until you tell your husband you want a divorce, we can’t be alone together anymore. I don’t want to be known for ruining a happy home. We can forget about the kiss until you tell him that you are leaving him. If you truly mean what you say, then we can be together.”

I opened the door and left her standing in the room.

Dawn

I can’t believe I just kissed Jason like that. He was the most handsome man I have ever seen. Caramel skin with beautiful hazel eyes. His black hair is always cut low, but I could tell it was very straight hair. His black t-shirt hugged his muscular arms that I loved having wrapped around me. He was muscular all over, stands at 6’3, and I remembered when we were younger, he had a six-pack. I bet he probably has an eight-pack right now because I know he still goes to the gym on a regular basis. I know he has tattoos on his arms, and I wonder if he has them on any other part of his body.

I knew it was wrong to kiss him since I’m still married, but I just had to have a taste of him. I came to the decision some days ago that I was divorcing my husband, and I knew who I wanted to be with after the divorce. I tried to hold out on being intimate with Jason, but I knew he would come early to my house today and as soon as I saw him, I knew I had to kiss him. He kind of stunned me when he stopped the kiss and said to wait until after I tell my husband, Craig. I understood him though, because it was the right thing to do.

I decided to get dinner ready for Craig’s arrival. He is coming home today from one of his tours. I know he will have his friends and co-workers with him, so I made sure to invite my brother, Darius, and his friend, Jason.

Darius and I are twins and the best of friends. He has one rule when it comes to his friends and me: They cannot date or try to be with his sister. All his friends are good with that, but somehow, Jason and I have gotten too close, so we are ignoring that rule. I promised Jason I would handle Darius when the time came for us to come out together publicly, but Jason insisted he would talk to Darius.

Craig is a gospel artist, and he is good at his job. That is about the only thing he is good at. It took me too long to realize he wasn’t a good husband. He always put his work before me. I fell in love with him because of how great he was in the beginning, but as the years went on, I realized I ignored all the red flags in our relationship. I let him alienate me from my friends and I even let him talk me into quitting my job and staying home. Originally, I thought he wanted me to quit working to go on tour with him, but after the first three years, he stopped asking me to go on tour with him. He said I should stay home and hold the house down. I happily agreed because I wanted to be a good housewife.

Darius kept telling me that I was too good for Craig, and I shouldn’t alienate myself based on what Craig says. But I thought my brother was just being too hard on Craig. I felt like Darius thought I was too good for anybody since I was his sister and graduated high school and college early.

I met Craig in high school, and we started dating when we were in tenth grade. He was a year older than me since I skipped a grade, but he was one of the only guys who didn’t try to date or bully me. We started off as friends, then realized we liked each other. We dated all through high school and college. We went to separate colleges, but we still managed to make it work. He proposed after college, we got married at the courthouse, and then we both got jobs doing what we love. I was a realtor while Craig started his gospel career.

At first, it was fine for me to sell houses, but the more established Craig became, the more he would bring up having me home. I finally agreed because he made it seem like he wanted me to stay home and help with his tours. As the years passed, it just seemed like I was just known as the wife of the famous gospel artist, Craig.

He has been on tour for six months and will finally be back home today. I am glad he will be here so I can tell him face-to-face about the divorce, but I know I need to wait until tomorrow when all of our guests are gone, and he is relaxed.

He walked into the house and dropped his bags, gave me a big hug and a long kiss. We haven’t kissed like this in a long time, so I was surprised by it. I turned from him and saw Jason and Darius looking at us. My cheeks immediately turned pink from embarrassment. I didn’t want Jason to think I was lying to him earlier about the divorce.

“Well, looks like somebody missed his wife,” Darius said.

Jason just grunted and walked away. I wanted to follow him but knew I shouldn’t. Craig’s co-workers and our friends all came into the house, and we settled down for dinner.
