Unique
"In contrast to most other readers, I actually enjoyed the somewhat chaotic narrative of this story. All the occasional spelling and grammar mistakes, lack of punctuation and spacing between paragraphs and everything else that the majority compalins about - to my mind, it actually blends very well with the spirit of the story and the vibe it translates. Since it's meant to be a diary foray, a person's individual thoughts don't always have to be strictly logical, polished and balanced, so I think your novel does a bang-up job of reflecting the disarray raging withing the mind of a person telling the reading audience her story. The whole ghetto/hood ambience seemed totally authentic to me through the main character's retelling of the events, even though I don't really know much about this culture to be a good judge of it. The dialogues seemed more like words of a drama play rather than standard verbal interactions you would normally encounter in fiction literature - I'm not sure if it was the deliberate intent to write them like this, but I think they fit the overall atmosphere of the novel just fine. The plot is interesting and is full of intriguing twists and turns. The ending to the novel also seemed appropriate and justified to me. My only nitpick would be that the supporting characters of this novel didn't seem just as properly developed and explored as opposed to Desiree's - perhaps, it's the result of them being conveyed through the reflections of another character, not the author. Then again, nothing to ruin the overall impression. Also, I got the impression that this story could make an excellent basis for a movie or TV series script. Altogether, I do agree with some other reviews that a few polishing touches to this work would come in handy, but otherwise I fully support your creative vision for this novel. Congratulations on creating a very decent, standalone produce and wishing you every success with your further writing! "
Amazing book
"This book keeps you on the edge of your seat. So many unexpected twists and turns. Love the drama and the characters. Keep it up. 😊👍❣️"
Interesting
"I wasn't sure what to expect from this story. It definitely grabbed my attention right away. The fact that it was based on events that happened to the author made it more interesting. I loved the list of characters at the end with an explanation of each. I think it just added to the story. "
it's great
"it's great. Like I didn't go into it thinking that it was poetry so I thought it was messed up and that the author didn't know what she was doing. But reading the other reviews I went through it a second time and it was a more pleasant thing to read. But I don't know. It's just not for me I guess. Still, I'm not going to give this person a bad review because of my tastes. It was a good book overall and there were very few to no mistakes that I could spot. Good job author and kudos when it gets published or whatever your goal is with this book. Sorry if this sounds rude."
Sex, Secrets & Seductions Of An Ambitious Poet
"This story is just beginning, it is a good start. The main character has a self-confident personality. I like how she stays true to herself, in the way she talks and how she describes the situation she got herself into. She seduced someone else's man, she played with fire and she got burned, Very interested to see how it continues."
Sex, Secrets, and Seduction of an Ambitious Poet
"I think this book has great potential. The writing style is a little hard to read. I liked the plot and it held my attention. The issue I had while reading was the layout of the page. It was confusing and distracted me from the story."
Great plot just not my cup of tea!
"It is clear from the slang in the beginning this is a 'hood' book. I would not be afraid to write out the swear words like Fuck, shit, hoes etc. If this is a diary of an adult! personal preference! chapter 3 does read more like a screen play - i would look more into your structure when reading on computer/web based as the sentences start a new line half way through. You could always make clear paragraphs between each person speaking. The main character is confident and I putting myself in her shoes, I can see she thinks on her feet and street smart. Keep up the good work, continue to improve for the readers! "
Fatal affair
"The novel wasn't bad but you really need to check on where you place your punctuation that has a big part to play in stories....like when there's an exclamation or a pause...to help the reader feel what the writer is feeling "
Very interesting 😍
"This was good, I loved the story line and how the words fused with emotion and brought the story to life. I do feel like you limited yourself though by making the story short, it felt like a summary of a real good story. On your next story please do no limit yourself, let your imagination be carried by the words. But despite it all, you are really good.👌👌💜"
Review swap
"The story is nice and intriguing, but it gets hard to understand due to the lack of paragraphs and grammatical errors. Personally, it feels like you are rushing making the story like you are telling it and not expressing it. I would also recommend you try expressing the dialogue instead of stating them. Still am looking forward to more chapters."
A little hard to get through
"I can kind of see where this book is going based on what I've read so far, but it was sort of difficult. I agree with other reviews about how it would be very helpful to have more spacing in paragraphs, more attention to grammatical errors, and especially quotation marks when there are different speakers. Also, I would probably recommend not posting chapters if they're not complete. Because of the editing notes in some of them, I almost didn't go to the end to see if there was anything actually written. There is potential in everything, and I really think that with the help of a professional or even a friend or family member, it could get a little more fleshing out and focus on the plot, how the character got to where she is, and what's happening. I was feeling confused by it all, so I would highly recommend someone who knows what you're trying to write about to look at the book. I look forward to seeing how the finished product turns out, and best of luck."
Great Potential
"Sometimes you find a hidden gem that is simply unpolished and unrefined. I understand that everyone has to start somewhere, and I am more than certain that a little bit of dedication and practice gets you there. The story has a good feel, there may need to work on smaller details, TPO, and grammar, however, once you begin to develop your story further, everything will fall into place. Looking forward to more of this! Keep up the dedication Author!"
Curious to See Where It Goes
"So far, it's really interesting. A couple of grammatical errors, but not so many that it makes any impact. I'm really curious to see where this goes."
Sweet revenge
"I think the storyline is okey and I hope it ends well"
Nothing
"It is less romantic "
Good Start
"I'm going to be honest, I couldn't get past the first few chapters because of the style/grammatical issues were hard to read past. Firstly, the paragraphs need to be spaced. It's extremely hard (especially on a virtual platform) to read a wall of text, so I would recommend changing up the formatting to make it a big more palatable. Also, there aren't any quotation marks, so I have zero clue when people are speaking. There are also some extremely short chapters and I'm not sure if that was a mistake or if they're meant to be that way? I think overall the story needs to be a bit slower and more fleshed out cause it moves extremely fast and there is a lot of telling instead of showing. I think letting the reader figure some stuff out on their own and letting the plot move much slower and delving more into the inner dialogue would be great. I saw some other comments about the tone of the story being casual, and honestly I didn't mind too much. i think you could make it a bit more formal to just make it feel more like I'm reading a book rather than someone's diary, but honestly I think it adds character. I think the idea in and of itself is good. I just think the execution needs to be fleshed out a bit more, especially the grammatical/spelling/formatting stuff because a lot of people will click away as soon as they see the big wall of text with no paragraphs. So that's an easy fix that would do a lot for your book! Overall, good job and good luck! Thank you for sharing!"
Nikki's Review
"First, I want to say I love a good urban vibe and the plot here has hella potential to be an engaging story but with the writing style being all over the place it was hard to digest this and stick with the story. I was too busy being upset with the switch from novel to screenwriting. With a good format edit this would be good. The grammatical errors can be fixed and for the most part the slang didn't bother me of course. I hope you don't take any of the feedback you have gotten as a discouragement and instead apply what you're readers have advised and continue to create great work. Also Des is trash 🗑️. That is all lol"
I have no kind words....
"Let's start with what I like. Second chapter delves into the mind of the main character, and I like it. It's the instance the story shows of her thought process, and I enjoyed it. The overall plot is serviceable; I get why characters do the things they do. Alright... Buckle up because this is where it gets doozy. The writing style is interesting but it's only interesting cause I can't follow the whole thing normally. I have to reread a sentence once or twice to get a firm grasp of the scene. It's difficult to read -- especially doing a binge. The characters... I hate them... Especially, the main character at the start... The story paints ones that deserve some solace in a really bad light, which to me feels awful... And at the end, the main character doesn't even grow! It feels infuriating to read. There is suspension of disbelief and there's delusion of reality. I believe getting shot in the head or shotgun to the chest will kill anyone. This is just my personal taste, but I swear a lot irl. One thing that I learnt from writing is you should use it sparingly. The more you use it, the less of an impact it will make. I hope you find this useful. Godspeed on your upcoming stories!"
Too Much Yet Too Little
"It's difficult to follow the story given the grammatical errors and lack of paragraphs. I truly didn't understand if this was a book, a journal/diary, or a poem until I read the reviews. There were commas in sentences that didn't need them and no commas in sentences that needed them. I highly recommend downloading a spelling and grammar app to help with this sort of thing, or ask a friend or trusted individual to assist you in that area. Your dialogue is just that; dialogue. I hear what the characters are saying but I don't feel what they're expressing. Help the reader experience the journey they're on by expressing what they're going through rather than say dialogue then the narrator tells the reader, bluntly and blankly, they're upset. Again, I don't understand what type of story this is, thus I can't give you much advice on writing style but I recommend after writing a chapter you proofread it three times and edit it to your satisfaction before publishing it. Ask yourself: if you found this book in a book store, would you take it home in its current state? The overall plot is good. I understand the situation and where the story is heading, and it's intriguing. Lastly, your book summary spent too much time explaining what type of book this is rather than explaining what the story is going to be about. Mentioning possible triggers is understandable and welcomed but explaining to potential readers why they possibly won't understand your story is unnecessary and will scare many off. Introduce your main character and what they are about to face throughout this journey then mention any possible triggers if there are or will be in future chapters. Readers will decide if your book is entertaining for them or not. I look forward to seeing Sex, Secrets & Seductions of an Ambitious Poet stand out amongst the public."
