Chapter 1
lips parting as I watch her prance around the kitchen. Chopping onions and peeling potatoes with a glint in her eye. It seemed she had found something to make her happy. “Mommy, what are you doing?” I ask, head tilted “I’m making a magic sweetheart. Cooking is the art of the soul that brings us closer. ” Her voice danced to a magical rhythm when saying this, but when Thomas walked in the magic disappeared.

Head in my hands “NO! You can not sell pictures of yourself in the school.” I never thought I would have to explain this multiple times to middle schoolers, but here I am. “Go give back any money you took, then never come back to this office.” he doesn’t even say another word when he leaves the office with his head down.
Not even a minute later I was intruded again “Ms. Torben your boyfriend is on the other line. Do you want to speak to him?” I felt my face heat up as I adjust in my chair “No, thank you Mrs. Bailey”
All this drama causes my eyes start to drift as I listen to a girl go on about her skirt; the skirt that seems to be breaking the dress code every day. All I want is to go home, so when the skirt girl leaves I call in sick. sitting in the car hoping for some sense of me surviving. The feeling of fatigue causes me to pull over. I let my eyes close and my breath slow allowing the urge to take over.

When I awake grass grazes my face causing an itch. I look around to find pleasant walls giving an allusion of comfort. Comfort is a non-existent feeling once the walls come crashing down. My breathing picks up. I find myself running through a labyrinth. Stones trying to bring me down after. every. step. Falling, a metallic taste is introduced to my mouth, informing me doom is to come.
The wall is falling with full speed at my face signaling my demise, when my face is suddenly submerged. Cold ice seems to be covering my body. My lungs burn in desperate need of air while I search for an exit. Eyes widen as a dark water seems to be close in. I hear a faint banging that sends shivers down my spine. BANG! As I feel the dread of dying the banging grows louder. BANG! Till my body gives in. BANG!

A face peers down on me a smile seeming to creep on his face. Leaving me with a twisting stomach. “You ok in there?” He says through the window. I inched the window down before replying. “Yes, I am fine. Is something wrong?”
“No, I just noticed that you have been asleep for a while. I wanted to be sure you weren’t dead, since you are on the side of a road.” He says this with a deep chuckle. ” News doesn’t help my nerves either.” “Well, I’m fine thanks. Do you know how long I was asleep?” I say eyeing the now midnight sky. ” I don’t know I only just spotted you a little while ago.”
“Oh, well it is getting late. Thanks for waking me up.” I knew I was being awkward, but he didn’t make me feel like I was when he asked. “Can I get your number before you go?” I sat there mouth threatening to open wide. Thanks to my shock I answered with a quick “Sure” I felt like crawling under the seat and dying while I gave him my phone.
“Thank you have a good night” as soon as he left I called a good friend of mine, Hailey.
