Final Episode
Hello everone, this is my first time writing something for someone. I always loved watching anime and some day would like to write my own story. Couple weeks back I watched the anime “your lie in April” and read the audience reviews and shared the same feelings. For the purpose of this work I hope for have seen the anime and know how it concludes. The ending left audience somewhat dissatisfied and I would like to add my take on it but it is purely subjective and just a tribute to the anime that I really enjoyed.
Firstly, I really enjoyed ‘Your lie in April’ and I love the music in this anime, from the OP sequence “Hikaru Nara” to the performances that are feature in the anime. I liked all the characters for the most part and the arcs they go through. My favourite part of the anime was the tournaments and the stage environment, it made me realise that the world of this anime isnt just the main characters but its has the world of its own and the characters are just the part of it. The rivalry between Arima(MC) and Aiza was fasinating as Aiza always seemed to see Arima as his rival but Arima who goes through his own struggles doesnt even notice the impact he has on others such as Aiza and Emi lgawa. Aiza and Emi are to sides of the same coin and take the likes of Arima disappering to different extends but still recognizing their rival. I also like the character to Tsubaki and Watari and they play off of Arima really well. Even though Arima isnt my favourite protagnist, he has a great arc and satisfies eye through which we see the story unfold. Kaori was also a decent charcter but definately the weekest interms of a main character in my opinion. It was made obvious for the start that she was suffering through a disease and would end up dying or being saved in the end of the series. I like to conclusion to the story but just like a lot of people it left me a bit unsatisfied I like that fact that Kaori dies and story doesnt shy away and pull any puch in trems of not killing her off.
Now, what is it aboud the ending that I disliked and how I would have liked it to end. In the story Kaori passes away and Arima performs for her as she lies on the death bed. In the last episode we find out through the letter she wrote that she always loved Arima and wanted him to get back to performing which he does and she acomplishes her goal. Through this, she uses watari and Tsubaki (Arima’s bestfriends) to get close to him. This conclusion (letter) was perfect in terms of giving the audience a last chance to know about Kaori and her life and take in the impact she had on the main trio and changed their lives for the better. But the timing and contents of the said letter could have been done better.
Well, as I mentioned all of the back story of Kaori concludes in one episode and does do good enough job to make her a character. What I mean by that is she ends up being a character with no flaws. She was perfect throughout the story and her only quirk being she was dying and fixes everything in the MC story arc as she passes away. I actually loved the fact the she starts liking Arima more now that she met him and tries to survive and live through her disease that is the most we get from her and in character development. Her character couldnt connect to thee audience the way auther entended.
I wish we were given 2 letters instead of just 1 and similarly 2 episodes developing Kaori backstory. The letters should have delth more into the mindset of Kaori and how she felt about dying without achieving her goal and fears she delth with on day to day basis and try not to make Arima fall in love with her(and recognises he did) and still help Arima out. The letters should have gone into her stalker like tendencies and how she always tried to get into the group but couldnt. The fact that the knows Tsubaki loved Arima but couldnt help her self for getting into his life knowing it would end up hurting Tsubaki in the end. The fact that she took a chance and formed a romanting relationship with Arima’s best friend knowing full well how it could impact Watari life and she still did it anyways because she saw Arima dealing with the loss and aggresive nature of his mother and wanted to help. The episodes mentions these facts but just glosses over them. These letters should have arrived before her death but she never should have intended them to get to Arima before her death. But Arima end up finding the letters and the content of these letters should have been the reasons that broke Arimas will to play ever again instead of him loosing her. Then in the ever last episode Kaori should have came to know about the fact that Arima got the letters and was worried that may be after reading about her flaws Arima would give up performing and would end up hating her because she made him fall in love with her and end up going away and leaving him behind which she never intended. At this point she feels guilt for getting into his life and lies on her death as she wishes she doesnt die and gets to spend her life to Arima and dreams about their furure together. She wonders about a performace she would share with him by her side and great that would have been. She cries and cries.
At that movement she get the call from Watari and on the phone she hears someone performing piano and starts to embraces the last performance with someone she loved and in a way her dream comes and she finds out that Arima would love her even with the flaws and would perform for her even with her gone. She cries and with that she rests in piece. The curtains fall and the story concludes withot actually showing us the audience Arima performing but just the image of a girl playing pretend violin as she passes while listening to Arima’s performance.
Well I guess thats it, I hope may be you get where I am coming from and like how this concludes with giving as any idea about the future. I think this could have been a good way to conclude without just showing everthing went back to normal and Arima started to perform agian. In this end we never see the perspective of Arimas just the fact he got the letters and just his music though the phone’s speaker as he confesses his love with just music.
