1| CARTERR!!!
(A.N)
Hi y'all, first of all thank you for tapping on this story. It's my first time publishing a story though I've tried to write for long. Also This isn't a perfect work at all. I'm still learning so uh yeah. Thank you.
Chapter 1
"CARTER!!!" She yelled across the room, which caused me to bolt out of my chair and run to her cabin.
"Yes, ma'am" I asked, not being surprised by the issue. I look at the man who is standing next to me, keeping his head down.
"Fire this idiot, give him the last of the wages he has earned here, and find me a better assistant," she ordered.
She closed her eyes and threw the papers off her table.
As soon as he began to speak, I stopped him and whispered to him.
"Remember the day when I told you that there's no 'second chance' in her dictionary?"
And he closed his mouth in defeat, tried to leave the room, but she called him.
"Don't dirty my floor, take this shit back!"
I can tell that the man was extremely angry, but instead of getting angry at her, he gave her a look and picked it up before storming out.
"If that is all, ma'am.." I spoke up.
I left after she made a hand gesture implying that I should.
She always asks me to give the guys their salary plus an extra month's pay, so I did it and patted him on the shoulder.
I sighed and leaned back in my chair, pulling out the file labelled "interview files for assistant" from the drawer.
I went over every file I had, divided it up between people with experience and those without, and finally created a sorted one.
I called the numbers of all the ones on my list for the interview held tomorrow, starting at sharp 8am.
Aileen Amédée
I rearranged everything on my table, got up, and started toward the elevator.
It's absurd how none of these idiots can meet my standards. As I stepped into the elevator, Carter was rushing over to me, likely to give me information about the interview. I decided not to bother and pushed the button, but he had already entered.
I scanned my watch and said, "Make it quick."
"Sure, this secretary of yours has located a list of qualified candidates. But I have a condition" I raise an eyebrow at him at his incredulous words.
"Excuse me?"
"Nothing bad, this time you should conduct the interview, then maybe you'll be able to find someone you want." I nodded at his argument and agreed with him.
When I arrived at the parking lot, I saw my driver rush to open my door but I stopped and said "I'll take the wheel, you can go home and rest, It's okay, Mr. Reed."
He nodded and started walking away but I called him out and said, "Please be sure to be at my house on 6am sharp," to which he nodded and smiled.
I played the news while driving down the busy road. I reached my new hotel, handed the guard the key, and entered.
I gave everyone who welcomed me a nod before heading over to the front desk. The receptionist immediately greeted and said, "Ma'am, our chef has
informed us that the new
dish you requested is
ready."
"Very good" I smiled and moved toward the kitchen.
"Good evening ma'am" the senior chef greeted me and then started talking about the customers' before leading me to the table. As another chef brought two plates and set them on the table, I sat and listened to everything he had to say.
I said politely, placing the towel on my lap, "Thank you, I'll dig in then." I groaned with satisfaction as the first bite touched my mouth.
I take another bite and nod, "This is exactly what I expected from you sir, you never cease to amaze me."
The man puts his hands in his chest and says, "That's music to my ears, ma'am."
He waits with anticipation before saying, "I was thinking if you'd help in naming it."
"I would love to, Although I must admit that I'm probably not very good at it," I replied.
I motioned for him to take a seat, he said, "It's okay, I'll give you three options, you can pick the one you like."
Just as I was about to finish my meal, we finally settled on a name after much discussion. I congratulate everyone and receive their thanks. I replied, "Okay, then," and we shook hands before I headed back to my car.
I pulled up to my house, gave the security guard my key, and then walked inside, setting down my bag and grabbing the file with the list of assistants before going up to my bedroom and placing it over the nightstand.
I walked inside the bathroom, took off my clothes, and entered the tub. As the gentle, warm water touches my skin, I close my eyes. After some time, I exited the room wearing a robe and sat down on the bed, bringing the file with me.
Mrs Mary, caretaker of the house came in and put the coffee on the table.
She stares from the door, "Don't stress yourself out too much," and I responded, "I won't Mary, have a good night."
I read every file of a person while flipping through it repeatedly.
Hmm 2,3,4, years of experience, yet they always messes up.
I finally put it back after shrugging it off, got up, and went to the kitchen to wash the now-empty coffee cup before setting it on the island.
I then went to bed after brushing my teeth.
⏳
I was inside the car, on my way to my office when I got a call from my dad.
"Hello? Yes"
He exclaims joyfully, "Honey, it's fixed."
"That's fantastic, what day is it?" I ask as he told that my sister 's engagement party date has been set.
"At the end of second month"
"That's too soon" I mused.
He laughed, "Your sister couldn't wait," and I grinned.
"Ok ok I'll call her after this Dad" I hung up the phone as we came to a stop in front of our building.
6:45 am
I walked around and got inside the elevator. Stepping into my cabin I sat up just as someone knocked on the door. I sit upright and say, "Come in."
"Ma'am"
"Ah yes Carter" he walks in, handing over the schedule for today. "Ma'am You need to hold this meeting before 8 because there has been a slight change in timing because you are attending the interview." I looked at the document while nodding.
The meeting ended sooner than expected, so I went to sit in my office.
8 am.
"Can you assure that you won't make a single mistake?" I look at the man seated in front of me while crossing my arms. His shirt is poorly ironed, and his tie is scraggly. He responded, "I will try ma'am," and I nodded before extending the file to him.
"We will get in touch with you, Mr. Ethan. You may go now" he got up and left.
I rang to signal the next candidate. I heard a knock to which I said come in.
A man entered with an elegantly ironed shirt and tie, neatly styled hair, and a professional demeanour.
I signalled to him to sit.
"Thank you" he says as he takes a seat.
Polite, I like that.
"Mr Lucas" I called to which he said "yes ma'am".
"See Mr. Lucas, I have had 31 assistants so far, and they have all done things that have upset me in some way. Here, the rules are simple." He is carefully listening to me as I continue with my arms crossed.
"I don't care about work experience, all I want is someone who can do the job without making a mistake. reliable, devoted, and successful in whatever task they are given. I don't believe in second chances, and unless they are sincere, I don't find it amusing to listen to blunt justifications." I look at him as I take a sip from my cup.
"So, you get the picture?" I lift my chin when he remains silent and is simply sitting there staring at me.
I cleared my throat making him look up. "Let me add, I want complete professionalism"
He straightened his shoulders and looked at me, saying, "I can assure you that ma'am, if you choose to keep me, living up to your expectations will be my top priority."
I extended my hand toward him and gave him a handshake.
"Mm. you're hired, Mr Lucas"
