The Family Flaw

Skyler was sitting in her room listening to music when someone knocked on her door and walked in without her approval. She looked up and saw her stepmother, the person who thought she could fool her into thinking she was her biological daughter. The women were always too proud and thought she was a born princess.

“What’s wrong?” Skyler asked as she looked at the cold woman, a warning sound going off in her head. Her parents had never treated her fairly. They were rude and cold to her, treating her as if she were their servant.

“Isn’t your birthday next week?” She asked.

Skyler’s brows creased. “Shouldn’t the person who gave birth to me know when my birthday is?” Skyler asked in a cold tone.

The woman rolled her eyes. “Yes, yes.” She waved her hand. “Tina wants to take you out for your birthday. You should go and have a good time.” Skyler’s mother handed her thirty-thousand dollars. “Have a fun night, dear.”

Skyler looked down at her hand, an expression of disbelief on her face. Something was wrong and the stupid woman had just given herself away. “What’s this?” Skyler asked as if she were a stupid woman and didn’t know it was blood money.

“It’s your birthday money so you can have a good time at your party. Tina is so sweet to have your birthday party at such as nice place as the Plaza, don’t you think?” Skyler’s stepmother asked. She turned around and walked out without waiting for an answer.

Syler got up from her bed, grabbing her backpack, locking her bedroom door, and turning on the shower. She climbed out her window and ran to the back of the property. Grabbing her motorcycle, she pushed it until she was far enough away the sound wouldn’t be heard from her family.

Skyler had made enough money by racing to open a bank account and she had a good amount of money in it. She had used a fake ID to make sure her money-hungry stepmother didn’t get her hands on it. She had a feeling she would need to leave after her birthday party, and she needed to make sure she took care of herself. After she deposited the money, she went back home as if nothing happened.

It was finally Skyler’s birthday, and they were having a party at a hotel bar called Plaza. Her cousin Tina and a few friends were chatting and having a good time, but Skyler was curious as to why her cousin wanted to celebrate her birthday with her. She barely drank at first but had started on her second glass of wine.

Skyler stood up and looked around. “I’m going to the ladies room.”

“Hold up, I need to go too and it’s safer for us women to stick together,” Tina informed her as if she were a caring person.

“Okay.” Skyler pulled her up and held onto her arm, but the expression on her face was hid as she lowered her head. She knew Tina wasn’t the kind and considerate person she was pretending to be, and she wanted to know why she’s acting as if they were best friends.

Skyler and Tina walked into the lady's room. Skyler noticed there wasn’t anyone else in the bathroom, so she raised her head and looked into Tina’s eyes. “Tell me your plan for tonight.”

As if Tina were in a trance, she told Skyler her whole plan from the beginning to the end as Sklyer taped her plans. Skyler wasn’t shocked but was angry, but she had her own plans.

“You need to transfer a million dollars to me right now.” She pulled a card out of her pocket and gave it to Tina. She didn’t want Tina to have her bank account number. Tina was as money grubbing as her stepmother.

Tina stepped forward and transferred the money onto the card without saying a thing, stepping back when she was done as docile as a kitten.

Skyler snapped her tongue and Tina went back to being herself. “Come on, let’s go back and have some drinks.”

“Okay.”

Skyler and Tina walked back to the table and Tina ordered more drinks. Skyler was thinking about what she was going to do to get out of the mess Tina wanted for her and didn’t pay attention to what was going on around her. She didn't want to be caught in Tina and her stepmother's trap or she knew she would be in a sorry state.

After Skyler finished her drink, she started feeling dizzy and knew she had been drugged as Tina wanted.

“Are you okay? Why don’t we get a hotel room here for the night?” Tina gently asked, an amused look in her eyes.

Skyler didn’t answer because she felt herself heating up faster than she thought she would. Damn it! How much of the drug did Tina use?

Tina helped Skyler up and almost carried her out of the bar as she pulled the key card out of her pocket to look at the room number. She took Sklyer up to the top floor and opened the door throwing Skyler on the bed, but she didn’t notice she had pushed her into the wrong room until she walked out but she couldn’t back into the room after she used her key.

Tina went to her room and saw Adam, Skyler’s boyfriend, on the bed completely naked and waiting on Tina. “Hey, honey, are you ready to embarrass Skyler?”

Adam smiled cruelly. Skyler had never let him touch her the whole two years they had been dating. She was such a prude, but she would be changed by them tonight. “How much drug did you give her? Is it enough?”

Tina smiled just as cruelly Adam. “I gave her half of the bottle, so she won’t be able to get out of the room even if she wants to."

Adam didn't say anything else to Tina but grabbed her and pulled her to the bed. They spent all night together and got up early to catch Skyler in the act.

Skyler woke up in so pain. She could hardly move but she knew she needed to get out of the room as fast as she could. Tina had succeeded in her plans, and she wasn't sure when they were coming to catch her. She couldn't let their plans come to fruition, not only because Tina and her mother would be proud, but because she couldn't let Tina use her to make herself look better than Tina already thought she was.

Skyler turned to look at the man they had set her up with, but she was so surprised she paused long enough for him to open his eyes. "Who are you?" Bryce asked, his voice low and sexy.

Skyler's eye went wide. "I was drugged and pushed into your room. Can you please forget about me for the time being?" Bryce nodded slowly and closed his eyes. Skyler leaned close to his ear and whispered something.

Skyler needed to get out of the room as soon as possible so she dressed as quickly as she could and went to the balcony. She looked down and noticed there was a room below her. She was into extreme sports and knew she could climb down, but she needed to leave something to catch the two conspirator's words.

Skyler set up her equipment and climbed down into the next room. She was pleasantly surprised it was empty and the room hadn't been made up yet. She ran to the door and looked out the crack making sure the hallway was clear of anyone.

Skyler walked out of the hotel and called a cab. She put her earphones in her ears and watched the video. Sure enough there was knock on the door to the suite she had been thrown in.

"Mr. Anderson, are you okay?" Bryce's assistant asked as he took a key card out of his pocket.

The door suddenly opened, and Bryce pulled his assistant into the room. His face was cold, but he seemed to be in a better mood after finding out he was drugged and sent to his room by his assistant.

Bryce walked over to the bed and pulled the sheet back to find his wallet but was instead surprised by the blood stains on the sheet. He could barely remember the woman face, but he knew he had to find her. He remembered she said she had been drugged too and had been forced into the room by someone.

Another knock sounded on the door and Bryce's assistant opened the door. Tina was shocked to see Bryce and not the old man she planned for Skyler, but she smiled and told them she had the wrong room as softly as she could.

Tina grabbed Adam and walked away as fast as she could. "I think I pushed Skyler in the wrong room, but I don't understand how the key card worked if it was the wrong room," Tina whispered to him. "What do we do now?" Tina was scared out of her wits. She didn't want to provoke Mr. Anderson. The man was cold. He could take his enemies out in seconds.

Adam shook his head at Tina. "You're an idiot. He will look for Skyler if he remembers anything. You need to go to your house and let her stepmother know. Let her kick Skyler out of the family and then act as if you are Skyler. You don't have to sleep with him and you better not or I will let everyone know about your plans."

Tina's eyes widened in shock. "What?" She stared at Adam. "Why would I want to be with a cold man?"

Adam poked her in the head. "You can get us a lot of money for our company if you marry him and divorce him in a few months."

"Oh."

What the two idiots didn't know is Skyler had set up Tina's cell phone to act as speakers. When they talked to anyone, she could hear the conversation from Tina's phone. She made sure to tape their conversation and send it to Bryce's phone. She wanted to see what he would do when he found out their plans.

A few hours later a scream was heard from downstairs. "Skyler, get your ass down here right now!" She heard her dad yell.

Skyler lazily walked down the stairs and stared at the people in the living room. "Where were you last night? Did you sleep with a man before marriage?" Her dad asked, his face beat red with rage.

Skyler had already thrown her two cases out of the window. "You bet I did," she answered casually as if she didn't care.

"You, you," Skyler's dad stuttered. "Get out of my house right now and don't come back!"

"Isn't my dear dad going to give me money to leave?" Skyler asked as she leaned against the wall and gave Tina a cold look. Tina shuddered and hid behind her father.

"Money? Why would I give a lose woman like you money? Get out of here!" He yelled again, his voice as if a thunder god had let loose.

Skyler played a recording of her father making a deal with a gangster to kill one of his competitors, watching his face pale bit by bit. "How about that money now?" Skyler asked with an amused expression on her face. What the idiot's didn't know was Skyler was a very skilled hacker, a racer, a high-priced painter, and a few other things. She had kept everything hidden well as to not let them know how much money she made on a daily basis, or they would have had their hands out.

Skyler's father turned and looked at his wife. "Don't just stand there go and get her the money?"

Her stepmother looked at him as if he were a fool. "Just take the recording away from her." She rolled her eyes.

Skyler looked at her stepmother and laughed cruelly. "Do you think this is the only copy I have? If anything happens to me the video will be seen everywhere." Skyler smiled. "Including the billboards in New York."

Her father grabbed his wife and whispered to her. "Go get a million dollars out of the safe and give it to her. We will take care of her later."

"But?"

"Go now!" He yelled. Skyler's stepmother ran to the office and pulled the money out of the safe. She ran back out and gave it her husband.

Her father walked over to her, a cruel look on his face. He thrust the money at her and held out his hand. "You have the money now so you should delete the video."

Skyler shrugged and deleted the video. She wasn't worried about deleting the video. Hell, she had several incriminating videos anyway. "Get out now!" Her father yelled, his face as crimson as drunk mans on Christmas morning.

Skyler walked backwards and smiled lazily. "If you decide to get even with me you might want to think again. I have several tapes of your shady business deals. I suggest you forget about me and not contact me or..."

Skyler turned around and walked out the door. She heard her mom scream. "That crazy bitch. I'm so glad we are not her parents!"
