Chapter 1

Micah's POV:

I pace around the hallway outside my dad's office trying to build up the courage to tell him. I fear his reaction when I tell him the news. As the oldest of the Alphas children finding my mate should be a good thing. But how can it be when the girl is human?

I hear my dad's deep laugh from inside his office. "Boy you better get in here before you pace a rut in the floor."

I take a deep breath and push the door open. "Hey Dad."

"Micah...you want to tell me what's got you all worked up?"

I run my hands through my hair and sigh. "I-I think I found my mate."

His eyes get wide, and he stands up. "Really?" He asks. "Why do you not seem happy, this is a big deal son."

"Dad...she's human."

"Human?" He asks with raised eyebrows. "You're sure?"

"As sure as can be...I can't sense or smell her wolf." I say.

"And what exactly makes you think this human girl is your mate?"

"Dad this girl...Danielle...Dani...from the moment I met her she's all I think about, I wake up thinking about her I go to bed thinking about her, and I feel a need to protect her more than I've ever wanted to protect anything in my life." I shake my head. "Hearing her voice and seeing her face calms my wolf in a way he's never been calmed before and I just...that's what it's got to be right?"

"Well, it definitely sounds like it I've just never heard of a wolf let alone an alpha mating with a human." He shakes his head. "Have you told anyone else about this?"

"No."

"Let's keep it that way for now and let me look into this and Micah...stay away from that human."

I look at him stunned for a second. "Stay away from her?"

"Yes, until we figure this out you stay away from her!" He says sternly. "I understand if this human is your mate this may not be easy but this is for the best son." He puts his hand on my shoulder. "For her safety and the safety of this pack...stay away."

My wolf growls in my head but I settle him. 'He's right Arrow, if she's our mate it's our job to keep her safe and if we get to close, we could scare her.'

'He can't command us to stay away from our mate she's special I can feel it.'

"It won't be forever Arrow." Dad says sensing his disappointment. "What is Danielle's last name?"

"James."

"And how old is she?"

"She's a grade below me at school, so maybe 15."

He writes this down and then looks back up at me. "I promise I will look into this it's possible she has a wolf that hasn't emerged for some reason, but I will find out."

"Okay...thank you." I nod.

"Maybe you should stay home from school today it will make it easier to stay away from her."

"I'll be okay...I only have one class with her, and we sit on opposite sides of the classroom anyway."

"If, you're sure." He nods.

I leave his office to get ready for what I know will be a very long day...avoiding the girl my wolf is drawn to.
