Summary

In a town where the high school girl's basketball team rules the school, Sebastian is just another face in the crowd. Sure, his mom is the basketball coach but Sebastian's idea of "Friday night lights" revolves around studying until lights are out. Trying to impress his mother who only knows basketball and his father's high expectations, Sebastian puts his head down and tries his best to satisfy them. After accidentally ending up at a party one night (without his father's permission of course), Sebastian finds himself thrown into the world of the devastatingly beautiful yet arrogant Maddie Ziegler. Maddie was never part of a crowd. She's queen of the city: the best point guard in the state- if not the entire country. Flirtatious, cocky, innocent-faced and a skilled seductress of all forms, Sebastian is not the type of guy Maddie typically surrounds herself with. Everyone knows Maddie Ziegler. No one knows Sebastian Mendez. Basketball is her world while he wishes it wasn't a part of his. At first glance, these two couldn't be more different but deep down, they may be more similar than they think.

Chapter One.

“Brentwood High! Brentwood High! Brentwood High!“.

The loud thunderous claps of the crowd resounded through the court as people jumped up and down. Uncomfortably, I bring my soda to my lips and take a small sip and put it down again only for a guy with his face painted half blue, half navy, to knock it down.

“Oops, sorry man” he gives an unapologetic smile at me before pushing through while his friend shrieks with laughter behind him.

It’s my first basketball game ever despite our team bring the best in the nation. My cousin convinced me that it would be “So much fun” now I only realize it was just for him to hitch a ride and ditch me the moment we arrived.

“Go Wolves!”

The whole school is here, hell, the whole county here’s for Brentwood Highs first game of the season, it’s sweaty, crowded and utter chaos. To simply put it, I don’t belong here. I’ve got nothing against school spirit but I’m the kind of guy who spends Friday night studying for the exams for next month.

“#12 Elaine Pierce! #10 Willow Rooney #11 Maddie Ziegler...” The crowd roars so powerfully, I nearly pass out on the spot, normally I would just leave but.

“#1 Jayda Stevens!” The crowd cheers escalate as the star center jogs out, the last of the players to enter, the large, stadium sized court, a tiny smile appears on my lips as my eyes remain glued to her as the players line up in their positions. Chants over power Jayda’s words at first but the entire court falls silent to put their hands over their hearts as the speakers announce the national anthem.

The teams line up with confidence, the court is so quiet that you could hear a pin drop, Jayda Stevens calls the play and the game begins.

I admit, I do get kinda hyped up and maybe I start screaming and chanting along but it is impossible not to in this environment when the Brentwood High wolves are scoring pointer after pointer.

We won and as soon as the game is over, I try my best to rush down even just to wave at Jayda Stevens, I’m pretty tall but the crowd of hundred of bodies slow me down devastatingly, I manage to catch a glimpse of her, just as the captain of the football team, Liam Knight runs over to give her a kiss, he spins her around and they walk out of the court with their hands wrapped around each other.

Girls like Jayda Stevens don’t date guys like me. They don’t talk to guys like me and vice versa. It’s nothing to be sad about. I don’t even like girls like that. The type that think they own the world and sleep with a million different guys a week, because their the Brentwood Highs Basketball captain, they get away with skipping class, excuses for detention and boys lining up to sleep with them so that they can brag that #18 took their virginity, the worst is, I think they know how powerful they are.

But Jayda is different, she should be the worst Basketball captain but she isn’t, always attends class, gets good grades and everybody knows that Jayda Stevens is gonna marry Liam Knight.

I admire her, she sits next to me in calculus and is the absolute sweetest to everyone, she even invited me to the game, which I politely declined at the time but here I am now.

I don’t need to go to basketball games to know the outcome, my mom is the coach and whenever she’s back at home, the house is all about Basketball. Going to games is like overkill. I’ll be out of a place where Basketball matters the most.

“Seb, Seb!”

Oh no, I turn around to leave but my cousin continues calling after me as if he didn’t use me to get a free ride a few hours ago.

“Sebastian, wait up! I need a ride back!”

Gritting my teeth, I turn around to glare at him, I don’t know what to say so I put it bluntly, “You ditched me”.

He grimaces and shrugs, “Oh come on dude, you’re acting kinda homo, I figured that you’d find somebody else”.

I raise my brow and he rolls his eyes “Oh come on, don’t be so clingy, there wasn’t any space where I was sitting, and I got the BEST view of Maddie Ziegler, she’s a friggin Ferrari, you understand right?“.

No I don’t, at the very least, he could at least apologize.

“So, you’re still going to give me a ride right?”

“You can go with my mom” I cut in, “I have the BEST view of my TV at home, you understand right?”

Before he can say anything else, I walk off in search of my car.
