The words of The Pretty Reckless song Heaven Knows rang out in the room, the words becoming more coherent as a raven haired female, the owner of the phone the song was coming from, started to wake up and answer the call and put the phone to her ear.
“Hello?” She gruffed out, her voice still a bit hoarse from just waking up before hearing a slightly high pitched valley voice on the other end, causing her to slightly move the phone away from her ear.
“Oh my God, Jane.” The voice from the other side yelled out. “Where are you? I have to leave immediately and you are running late.” The voice said.
“Eve, it is…only 11:42. I’m not supposed to be there until 12:15.” Jane spoke, sitting up and running a hand through her hair to brush it out of her face. “And I’m never late so you can wait.”
“I was scheduled to leave now though.” Eve tried to argue, causing Jane to roll her eyes.
“Fine. I’ll be there in Five Minutes.” Jane huffed before hanging up the phone and getting out of bed before going to get into her usual work uniform which consisted of a red long sleeve polo that had a pale pinkish-tan thick stripe across it with the logo on the back, before tossing on her usual black pants and black matching sneakers.
Jane double checked the time from her phone as she did her usual bathroom routine of putting her hair back into a ponytail, brushing her hair and cleaning her face, seeing as Eve, her coworker, continued to spam her phone with messages asking where she was at, making her [Jane] roll her eyes and finish up.
“I’m coming, shut the fuck up.” She grumbled as she grabbed her purse, phone as well as a water bottle and something to eat before heading out the door almost immediately to get into her car and drive to the gas station convenience store she worked at.
When Jane finally arrived, she was immediately bombarded by a female with frizzy, box dyed, wavy hair that was being forced to be straight curled.
“Jane! There you are.” Eve’s voice rang out as Jane shooed her away so she could open the door only for Eve to be so close to her it was hard to move or do anything.
“You have to clock in and take care of the customers in the store. I already clocked out and have to go.” Eve said.
“Um, excuse me?” Jane asked, confused where the audacity that Eve was relaying came from.
“I have a family emergency. I can’t stay longer.” Eve called out before jumping into a red beetle that someone else was driving, before the vehicle drove out of the parking lot and away from the location.
“The entitlement of that girl is going to be the death of her.” Jane huffed out under her breath with a head shake as she headed inside with a slight quickness so whoever was inside the store didn’t have to wait.
“I am so sorry, Eve’s not the…” Jane started before one of the customers that was near the counter spoke up.
“Most reliable?” The customer asked with a slightly amused grin on her face. “I could tell. Also, I would appreciate it if she didn’t try to hit on everyone that came up to the counter.” She added.
“Trust me, nobody likes when she tries to flirt.” Jane said slightly amused as she continued the conversation as she clocked in and walked to the counter and started scanning the items. “Nobody likes when she clocks out early and calls someone else in earlier for their shift when she doesn’t want to be here.” She admitted.
“Well, you didn’t hear this from me but I don’t think she clocked out.” The customer admitted.
“I will check that in one second, thank you for that.” Jane said with a nod.
“If nobody likes her, why keep her around?” The Customer asked curiously before noticing the look Jane gave her. “Confidential? I got it. I’m Faith.” She said with a grin
“My name is Jane?” Jane said as she soon finished scanning everything. “That will be $24.95 by the way.”
“Cool name, very classic but in a good way.” She spoke before some guy walked up to her and wrapped an arm around her shoulder.
“Hey ladybug.” The guy said with a smile to Faith, pulling her close to him with his arm around her. “Got everything? Reid’s blowing up my phone wanting to leave.” He said.
“Reid can hold on, I’m still getting my things.” Faith said before the door opened and someone else walked in.
“Geez can’t you two hurry up?” The guy asked before turning to the counter. “I’ll pay for whatever they’re gett-” He started before noticing Jane and freezing in his spot.
“Reid?” Faith asked.
“Dude, I think you broke Reid.” The guy next to Faith laughed before being elbowed.
“Andrew, hush up.” Faith mumbled to the guy, Andrew, next to her before snapping her fingers in front of Reid’s eyes and causing him to snap into some sort of new personality.
“Sorry, I just remembered that we need gas and…I also need to get some things.” Reid said before rushing back into the aisles of the store, grabbing whatever he could before heading back.
“Sorry about him, this is…new.” Faith said as she moved to the side with Andrew as Jane slightly watched on amused.
“I could tell.” Jane said with a slightly amused tone in her voice as she spoke before Reid came back and spilled everything he grabbed in his arms onto the counter space.
“Got everything you need Bud?” Andrew asked as Reid simply ignored him and Faith’s presence.
“Sorry, I didn’t realize that we needed all this until the last minute.” Reid apologized to Jane. “Maybe I can make it up to you somehow?” He asked.
“And how exactly do you expect to repay someone doing their job? No offense.” Faith questioned in a casual serious tone, knowing Reid wouldn’t hear her
“None taken.” Jane responded. “And I am curious about what you have in mind as a way to repay me.” She added as she started scanning the items, looking at Reid so he knew she was talking to him.
“Oh, well I was thinking maybe a simple get together later tonight? I, well Faith, Andrew and I, all have a show tonight at the local bar tonight. Maybe you could show up and I’ll buy your drinks?” Reid offered.
“Really Reid? Promoting?” Faith asked with an eye roll, annoyed at her brother with his antics and just wanting to leave already.
“A show? You three are musicians?” Jane asked curiously as she scanned the items, slightly going slow until she heard the door and noticed some more people walk in, causing her to slightly hurry with the scanning.
“No, we’re actually Professional Wrestlers. Independent Professional Wrestlers to be exact.” Reid said proudly.
“Way to brag.” Faith said in a bored tone, turning to leave and resting a hand on Andrew’s chest to try and bring him with. “We’re going to be in the car, hurry up here.” She added before starting to walk out before Andrew stopped her.
“Wait, I wanna see him fail at asking her out.” Andrew said to Faith which made her look at him.
“What?” Andrew asked.
“He’s not even going to ask her. He’s gonna wuss out like normal.” Faith admitted. “We see this so many times, I don’t know why something else would happen.” She added truthfully.
“We don’t know that.” Andrew said before looking over as Jane said the price of everything and Reid awkwardly pocket the change before pulling out a crumpled slip of paper.
“Here is my number and the location of where the show is tonight. Hopefully you can stop by and watch?” Reid said as he handed Jane the paper and took the bags of things.
“I don’t know how early I’ll be out tonight, but we’ll let fate decide that.” Jane said with a small smile, slightly playing along with what Reid was saying.
“Well then, I hope fate lets us meet again soon.” Reid said with a smile before moving out of the way as more people went to the counter to get their stuff scanned and paid for.
“Alright, let’s go.” Andrew said, grabbing his friend and starting to leave with him.
“It was nice meeting you Jane.” Faith called back with a smile and wave as Jane did the same before getting back to work.
“What the hell was that?” Reid groaned as he put his hands up to his face after him and Andrew put the bags of snacks and drinks all in the back of the van.
“Pathetic. That’s what that was.” Faith said with a frown and her arms crossed. “We would’ve been out within three minutes tops if you left your ass out here, but no, Mister ‘I need to lead everyone’ had to come in and fucking instigate before getting a hard-on for someone else.” She spat out as she moved to get in the Passenger seat of the car.
“I did no such thing. I don’t understand why you’re the one that’s all over my ass for this. Just because you’re older -” Reid started before Faith got out of the car and in her Brother’s face.
“I’m all on your ass? Please, you are easy to read. It’s like clockwork with you. Reid, screws up on the way to shows. Reid then screws up backstage with other talent. Reid talks too fucking much and almost gets us blacklisted. Reid gains a new crush but NEVER acts on it. Reid apologizes and says to never do it again only for it to happen again.”
“You forgot where Reid gets us the matches. Reid gets us the gear. Reid gets us the motel rooms and the food and the drinks.” Reid remarked snarky like.
“God you’re such a ego!” Faith yelled, turning, wanting to leave or scream but not wanting to leave it at that and turning around to face him once again.
“Want to apologize now?” Reid asked, thinking he won the argument.
“You’re on thin ice, ONE MORE THING HAPPENS and Andrew and I are done.” Faith said before getting in the passenger seat and slamming the door shut right as Andrew started up the van and music started to play.
“You both won’t leave. At least Andrew will stay, we’re a tag team.” Reid said as he got in the back of the van.
“Sorry dude, Faith’s right. It’s getting pretty annoying that the same things happen like a routine with you on show days.” Andrew admitted with a shrug.
“Wow, both of you are really loyal.” Reid said with an eye roll.
“At least we talk things through with each other before impulsively doing or saying stuff that could hurt the other or both of us in the end.” Faith spat out before turning the volume on the radio up and changing the song to something that could get her rage out but without actually getting into another argument or a physical fight with her brother.
