From Haters to Lover

“Are you going to come over tonight, Adam?” His beautiful girlfriend Ariel asked him as they walked do the halls of Lawrence High School in Augusta, Maine . Adam was so happy being in a relationship with the sweetest senior in the school but her family and his family are at odds with each other since Adam’s family was not wealthy like her family was. He was so thankful that Ariel was not like her parents, in fact, she was polar opposite of them. She was sweet, caring and loved to be round any type of person from the lower class up to the wealthy. It was one of the many reasons that he fell for her and still continues to care for her. However her younger sister Hailee was a piece of work and was at times worse than her parents. He found the parents to be more understanding but Hailee was a mystery to be solved on what he did to her. “Will Hailee be there?” Right now i think i can tolerate your parents more than her.” She wrapped her hand around his arm “Awe, Adam.” He sighed and shook his head “She is starting to get to me, Angel. She is now going out of her way to humiliate me now. She removed the wet floor sign from the hallway going to the av club when she saw me coming. I am lucky I did not hurt myself” She leaned in and kissed his cheek “Don’t worry i will talk to her. And no she is going out with a few friends tonight.” He smiled and took a deep breath “Ok then I will come over and I am sorry. I have tried so hard to be as nice as i can be to your family and I just hope one day they will see me for who I truly am.” She pulled him into a private closet “They will, darling and I for one will make it happen.” His arms wrapped around her waist and she softly groaned feeling his strong hands on her “That is why I am crazy about you, Ariel.” She leaned in with her mouth opened slightly waiting for him to make his move on her. He pulled her tightly to him and he leaned in a few times and whispered “Are you expecting something?” She giggled and tried to kiss him but he pulled away at the last second “MMM you know how much i hate/love that.” He laughed and finally kissed her. She gasped softly feeling his lips melt onto her lips. She would do anything for this boy but tonight this beautiful passionate moment might be the last time they could do anything like this. After minutes of pure passion they emerged from the closet and looked right at her younger sister who saw them coming out of the closet “Gross!!” She rolled her eyes knowing what they were doing. Adam rolled his eyes and wanted to say a lot of things to her but decided to keep it brief “Funny!! I was just thinking the same thing about you. I will be at your house at 5, Ariel.” He bumped into Hailee as he walked out of the school but Ariel grabbed Hailee’s hand to hold her back from slapping her boyfriend across the head. “This has got to stop, Hailee. Adam get’s enough of abuse from mom and dad being a middle class person and he does not need more from you.” Hailee yanked her arm way from her “I am nowhere near as bad as mom and dad.” Ariel laughed and said “The why did he specifically ask me if you will be there when I invited him over tonight?” Hailee held back tears and replaced it with anger “Let me see, because he knew mom and dad would be there.. Duh!!” Ariel stood in disbelief “Think what you want but he avoids you because you are constantly at him trying to hurt him or something. In other words back off my boyfriend or else.” Hailee pushed passed Ariel and walked out of the school being so mad that she could cry and hit something. She was a sophomore and was always looked down on at home and at school. Her freshman year she was already dubbed Princess just because she was the youngest out of the richest family in the small town and felt like she got no respect so she dishes out what she receives. Her big sister was the only one who seemed to car and once she started dating Adam she hardly sees her anymore and the one time she can hang out with her, Hailee was busy. While Adam went home he had an unsettling feeling that he should not go tonight. Something was warning him but his parents were working late and he did not want to be home alone. The battle inside him was going back and forth to where he thought he was going crazy. He slammed his hands on the counter from the overwhelming feeling inside him until he received a text from Ariel *I know today was rough but just know I will always love you, darling. I feel like we need to talk before you come over so call me when you get this text.* Adam wiped his eyes and immediately called Ariel not even knowing what to say to her. She picked up immediately and all she could hear was him sniffling in the background “You don’t have to talk, just listen, Adam.” He placed the phone down and put it on speaker so he could hear her. “I know it is hard for you not to like someone and I love that about you, Adam. But, not everyone is going to like you, that is life in general but it is how we react to those situations that make us have wisdom and move on with our lives.” He grunted shocked that she thought he hated that everyone has to like him but the truth was “That is not the case, Ariel.” She cut him off and said “It is ok to have that issue but I am going to help with dinner but you can come over anytime. Love you, Adam.” He went to reply but she hung up the phone before he said “Umm love you too.” He has never heard her like this but he just wonders if she was excited to cook for him since she has not done that yet. His mind wondered why she thought he had to be liked by everyone. He felt like he should be respected by other people but he knows that everyone will not like him. He pulled out his phone and called an Uber to pick him up and take him to Ariel’s house. Deep down he still has that feeling that something was going out go down tonight but something has happened every time he has went over there so how bad could it get? The Uber driver pulled up to the huge mansion and Adam made his way to the front door hoping Ariel will come to the door.

He knocked on the door and turned around while waiting awkwardly for someone to come to the door. Hailee came to the door and could see his shadow through the stain glassed door that they had and waited on him to lean in again to open it. She laughed when the edge of the door nearly hit him in the head “Hailee!!!!! I am not in the mood for this.” She opened the door all the way and walked out wearing a long navy blue dress, blue heels and her makeup done perfectly from her cheeks, eyes, and lips. “Enjoy sucking up to my parents tonight, Adam.” She bumped into him as she made her way out to the car waiting on her. “Thank heavens I will not be dealing with her tonight.” He walked in the house and could smell fresh pasta being cooked and garlic bread could be smelled a mile away. He would bet if he kept the door opened long enough the entire neighborhood would be at their doorstep within minutes. But he shut the door behind him and slowly walked through the house taking in it’s mesmerizing beauty and wonders how can a family so selfish own something so beautiful. The home had at least 30 foot ceilings, a beautiful gold baseboard and crown molding to give the ceiling and floor some character. Tile could be seen all through the home and it had a black overall color but with a shining gold star right in the middle of each tile piece. A silver chandelier towered high above him with it’s crystals dancing its light all across the interior walls. Maid’s and servants was running around making the house look the best it could. Walking through the house settled his nerves and get him prepared to face her parents. He walked into the kitchen and saw Ariel hard at work and said “Good evening everyone, how is everyone?” He was pleasant and calm to them but like always her parents ignored him before Ariel turned off the stove and ran into his arms “I am sorry if i was demanding earlier. I have never cooked for you and I got nervous while on the phone with you.” He hugged her and whispered “It is ok, everything smells wonderful so try to relax a little.” She smiled and grabbed his hand and brought him to the stove and placed a small spoonful of Spaghetti and fed it to him “That is spot on, Ariel.” She giggled when some sauce got on the corner of his lip “Thanks, but you got some sauce in the corner of your lip.” He grabbed a paper towel and attempted to get it but he missed. “Babe you are adorable but here let me get it.” She got on her tiptoes before kissing the sauce off of him “Delicious. The sauce isn’t bad either.” She commented and her parents have finally heard and seen enough of this and went to sit at the table and she plated the food for them before placing it at the table.”So mom and dad what did you get done today?” Her mom arrogantly said “Ahh just went to the small little diner in town for breakfast, purchased it away from the owners and going to make it a much better restaurant.” His parents owned a diner in town but Adam knew a lot about the town and he knew no diners were up for sale. “Somehow I don’t believe it because I know all the diners in town and none of them were for sale.” Ariel’s father then arrogantly said “Oh everything is for sale at the right price and your parents folded once i flashed the money at them.” Adam stood up and was absolutely furious with them. Ariel looked at him and knew he was mad “When are you going to get it through your thick head that it is not about the money in this town? You have workers that actually love to work like my parents to have a sense of accomplishment. Yes they might have money now and maybe i can be a boyfriend for your daughter that you can speak to now that i am rich but you got to learn from this.” Ariel took his hand and said “Babe your parents won’t have to work all those hours anymore and you can see them more often now.” He was about to walk out of the house when she said that and hearing her say that made him feel defeated “You are siding with them?” She look down and delayed leaving him in doubt. He stormed out of the house while Ariel went up to her bedroom sobbing into her pillow. He didn’t have a way home so he started to run until he tripped over a tree limb and fell face first in the grass and dug his fingers into the ground. Soon he heard he voice of Hailee say “And to think I am almost missed the argument of the century.” He stood up and with a deepened voice “YOU ARE THE LAST PERSON I WANT TO TALK TOO RIGHT NOW!!!” She laughed “Whoa down boy!! I am not your enemy here, in fact.” He cut her off and said “When is your crazy family going to learn that this town runs off of hard working people. Without these middle class and lower class they would have no business and they would not be rich and have spoiled children who will side with them at every beckoned turn.” She was not angry “Spoiled? I am far from spoiled you pompous, ignorant jerk.” He stood up and got in her face “If i am so ignorant then how come i beat you with every thing you try to pull on me, princess.” That name he knew would hit her button. Her eyes widened and she poked his chest over and over again “I am far from a princess and if anything this night proved is I am no longer a princess and now if the rumor is true then you are now a prince so put that in your grill and cook it.”The angrier she got the more she stared down his lips. Those beautiful full lips that were just begging to be kissed. “Oh that is original!! Seventh grade called and they want there joke back.” He laid on the sarcasm thick and heavy and she truly hated sarcasm “you are the most infuriating person I have ever had the joy of coming across and use the word ‘joy’ very loosely.” He laughed “ooo infuriating that is a big word for a sophomore. You don’t use big words like that until you are at least a junior.” He kept laying it on her and to be honest the more he let out his frustration the better he felt. He has a year of built up frustration with her and her parents to the point where he can’t stop the insults. “I don’t want too hear it I use more big words on a daily basis than you have in your entire life.So back off now, Prince.”

“Oh yeah what are you going to do about it princess, run to daddy and tattle on me like a preschool child?” He had drove her to edge and she did the only thing she could do to keep that big mouth of his silent. He stopped to catch his breath and as he did her lips pressed up against his like a starved man going into a buffet. His breath staggered as they passionately kissed and she wrapped her arms around him. Their bodies were perfectly interwoven in an endless display of passion in the front yard of her home. She pulled away and grabbed his hand and led him to a dark corner of the yard where no one could see them. She laid down in the soft grass and waved her finger with a smile on her face “Hailee I” she grabbed his hand and pulled him down with her “You and i both know once you are home she will be your ex. Now kiss me like your life depended on it.” He looked down at her and knew she was right. Ariel had an opportunity to show her worth and she hung him out to dry. She put her hands in the grass and his hands went down to hers and interlocked their fingers. She wet her lips to add some softness. Adam saw her lips shining in the moonlight right above them and without giving it much thought her hands were around his waist and she smiled at him “Just let me be your outlet for all your frustration, Adam. Harness all of it and get it all out.” Adam closed his eyes and leaned down to where their lips were almost touching. The first kiss was a shock and had that anger feel to it but this one he was anticipating something special. He slowly counted down in his mind five Mississippi, four Mississippi, three Mississippi, two Mississippi, one Mississippi, ZERO!!! His lips instantly connected with hers and their minds went crazy with passion. Her lips opened slightly and he tried to mirror her as much as he could to make her comfortable so he parted his mouth open to let her explore if she wanted to. She quickly learned that he was a gentleman when it came to kissing and not assumed that she wanted a french kiss. It made her smile and she softly explored his mouth. He soon explored with her and made her feel like she was well taken care of before she whispered “You don’t have to take it slowly with me, prince.” He smiled and teased her a little before she giggled and said “Let me show you how it is done.” Hailee was on the girls wrestling team and was very strong. She put her hands around his waist and flipped them to where she was on top of him. She looked down at him and pulled him close to her. “Put little distance between us, prince.” He smiled and said “Finally, a girl who sees it my way.” She laughed and pressed her lips against his with the force of a jet engine firing up. It instantly took his breath away before giving it back. A small gasp rolled off his lips to where she could hear the passion he was enjoying and no one else. His hands went through her hair and so did she. Her fingers gripped his blonde hair causing an overwhelming feeling come over him. Ariel had never made him feel this way when they kissed and all he could do was kiss her with everything he had until he could not give anymore. Hailee was on cloud nine feeling her true love take control in the kiss and she just let him take control. He soon left her lips and kissed along her jawline letting him hear her passionate low groans. Adam was having the time of his life but he knew he couldn’t do this all night even though it would be easy to do so. He was hurt and scarred by her parents/Ariel and more so his parents. His parents were the strongest people he knew and would not have sold the diner unless they had a good reason. “It’s not that, Hailee.” His voice toned changed on a dime from angry to sad. he laid beside her and looked at the stars before she turned on her side “You heard everything that was said and the one time i needed backup it fell on deaf ears. I thought for sure Ariel would have my back, Hailee and when she didn’t I lost all hope in us.” Hailee laid her hand on his chest and moved her nails across it. He closed his eyes as she said “Ariel, changed right before she started dating you, Adam. we would do so much together and at times it just felt like she was hanging out with you to get close to your parents. I wish I would have seen it before now maybe I could have saved the diner if I would have.” He was exhausted and eyes were heavy but he did not want to leave her side. “It is not your fault, princess.” He said in a non-sarcastic tone and she could tell it was genuine. “Only you will be able to call me that. Anyone else will get hurt.” He laughs and wrapped his arms around her “I don’t have to be home until 11 so we could use my driver to go somewhere if you want to.” He stood up and said “I should go home and check in with my parents. I need to get to the bottom of this and find out why they sold it. I thought things were going so well and they were making more ones than they have ever had in their lives. I was going to ask Ariel to come with me but obviously that ship has sailed away.” She grabbed his hand “I can come with you if you need someone.” He squeezed her hand and she led him to her car and they got into the back seat of the limo “Princess, not that i am complaining but what just happened with us?” She spotted over and laid her head on his shoulder “I think we just had so much built up frustration in us that it finally turned into passion. I do have something to admit. Before Ariel came about she learned that i had a huge crush on you and being the older sister she felt like that she had to approve of you. I am not proud of this but a year ago I would have walked across hot coals for Ariel but I truly think your relationship all started as a lie but seeing her with you now I truly think she cares about you more than you know. If I know her then I can almost guarantee she’s in her room crying over what she did.” The limo started to move as he said “I know she is also but my confusion is how does she do that and can still love me? Did it start out like this and slowly fell for me or was this an act this whole time. I need answers, Hailee. Part of me is wondering is if i was so blinded by her beauty that i threw caution too the wind. Maybe this was a waste of time dating her.”

She grabbed his hand and whispered “Then chances are we would have never met, prince.” He sighed and laid his head on her shoulder and closed his eyes. She waited until he was fully asleep to tell the driver “Just circle around town until 10:30 and we will take him home.” She caressed his cheek and kissed it softly while letting him sleep. “I love you, Adam. More than you will ever know.” He started to dig into her shoulder with his chin and she softly laid him down on her lap and gently went through his hair. He was now torn between two girls and he has no idea what to do. Ariel was an angel and in her own way maybe she felt like she was helping his parents and Hailee had an edgier side but was still sweet as she can be and with those thoughts on his mind he began to dream. It was the day after his college graduation and he was back at his home when Ariel and Hailee stood on his porch, each of them wearing a wedding dress. Ariel then said “Today is my wedding day, Adam. He is lol wrong for me and is exactly like my daddy. He will not love me, hold me, kiss me, or make love to me the way I will need.” He replied “We all make our choices, Ariel. You made your choice six years ago when you sided with your parents instead of having your boyfriend’s side.” She stifled her breath and shook her head slowly “My boyfriend had no idea what he was missing out on. Because of what you did your parents squandered all that money they had to put in a hotel business and now they are back to where they were. Living from paycheck to paycheck making their lives as tight they could possibly have. Instead of putting half the money they received into a retirement fund they now have nothing.” Ariel soon vanished from his sight and he felt at peace with everything. Ariel got. What she wanted and he wasn’t going to interfere. Hailee then grabbed his hands “It’s our wedding day, prince. We stayed true to each other and though we aren’t rich when it comes to money but, we are rich in love, in life, and in each other. You can wake up now, dear.” He felt her hand on his cheek and when he opened his eyes he was in her lap and she smiled adoringly and when he looked back he saw Ariel in the limo with her. He sat up and tried to get out of there but the girls blocked his exit “What is this? Some kind of trick?” Ariel shook her head “No we are having an intervention. It is clear that all of us have an irresistible bond and attraction to each other and we need to nip it in the bud tonight.” Adam stroked his chin “I thought I had made my decision my mind isn’t in the right place to make a decision, right now. I am lost, hurt, and just.” He hung his head and rubbed his head feeling pressure and the girls looked at each other with tears filling their eyes knowing what they need to do even though it will hurt all three of them. Ariel wiped her eyes and put her arm around him. Adam, I feel like we need to stop seeing each other. Not because of each other but because my parents have put a rift in between us and I don’t expect them to change anytime soon.” He looked up and saw Hailee in tears and just knew what was coming “Hailee!!”the way her name rolled off his tongue just made it that much harder “I will be ok.” He said to her before putting his arms around them before he stepped out of the limo and inside. His home by before receiving a text from Hailee *You think she bought it?* He sent back a winking emoji and *Hook, line, and sinker. I think a secret romance is going to be tough but you are worth it.* She waited until she was back home to text him back *Maybe one day we can stop the secrecy but for now maybe it is for the best. Go get some rest, prince and I will talk to you tomorrow xoxoxo* he smiled and walked inside with his parents putting things away “Adam, we need to talk.”His father announced and Adam replied “Don’t worry, dad. Ariel’s dad filled me in on everything.” His father hung his head “so he was not mad that i refused it?” Adam tilted his head “Refused it? He told me you accepted it.” His father laughed “You truly think that. Man with that huge ego could outsmart me? Come on son!!” Adam laughed and shook his head in disbelief “Well just for that i am going to let you in on a secret that can’t leave this house. Me and Ariel are no longer dating. Me and Hailee are secretly dating now.” His mother then said “Good for you, Adam. Ariel was nice but she was always prying for information and truth be told we didn’t care for her really. We always thought you would be better with Hailee over Ariel.” Adam took a sigh of relief before his father said “And keep a secret from the other parents should be fun since they didn’t bother telling us that their daughter was a spy.” After the night he had, Adam was happy that Hailee’s parents were nothing but liars and just embarrassed that someone refused their offer. He was all too eager to let Hailee know the truth, but once she heard it she lost all respect for her parents until one day the town stopped going to their businesses and was served a big slice of humble pie. It was in that moment that the Joe and Jodie Smith sent out a public apology in the cities town hall meeting. When they were asked what changed them they said the love of their daughters was a powerful thing and that moment, one year later, after their relationship went private Adam and Hailee revealed that they have been dating over the last year and now that they apologized and changed their ways they were not afraid to come forward about the relationship. Ariel had even started dating Adam’s cousins who had come to town about a month ago for college and the two have been inseparable. Looking back he was so thankful for the passionate kiss that he shared with Hailee year ago just because it made Hailee and Ariel have a true mother and father along with a love that has not slowed down.
