Awesome
"I'm not much of a science-fiction girl but this book had me from the very beginning. I appreciate a story that involves humor and Greg uses that to his advantage :) I enjoyed the characters and how their interactions felt real and not corny. I loved it."
Lights in the Night
"I was pleasantly surprised by this story. As a self-proclaimed student of the paranormal and unexplained, I'm always looking for an entertaining novel on those subjects and inwardly cringe when such stories prove superficial or lack proper research and development to make them believable. That was not the case with this story. The details of "real life" and the "what ifs" of the unknown were wonderfully woven together to create a thoroughly entertaining read. At times the overuse of the Oxford comma in some areas and the under use of it others was a little jarring but a little bit of editing and revision could easily fix that. Otherwise, it was a wonderfully entertaining and humorous story. Thank you for sharing! Good luck with everything and happy writing!"
Lights in the night
"I truly enjoyed reading this book. Your writing style was appealing. I couldn't stop turning the pages. Though not a Sci-fi fan, I enjoyed the plot. Well paced and interesting. Can't wait to read more of your books."
Read through it in one sitting
"Honestly I'm not much of a Science fiction fan, especially on stories about UFOs, but the plot and characters kept me hooked until the end, which is great because usually these kinds of stories would leave me bored but I read through it in one sitting and was left pretty satisfied!"
Lights in the sky
"Very good story. Nice mix of Sci-fi and humor. The story went at a good pace and kept me interested the whole way through. I liked the main character, he was relatable and a real fish out of water in a new town which made for some very funny interactions with the towns people. What I didn't like was that you gave a back story to most main characters except Crystal. This made it obvious who she was. If you removed the sheriffs back story it might have hidden this more."
The book to read after a long day!
"I've always been intrigued by UFOs; they are the probably the greatest mystery of our time. You have a conversational type of narration: it pulls the reader in, fast. The narrator is a part of the story, letting the reader see them telling. I'm not sure I've seen this style of narrating after the 1940s? I've found the style prominent in much earlier authors like for instance, Dickens, G. Livingstone Hill and even Jessie Graham Flower. So, you kind of modernized this style, I don't know, seemed so. And I loved it. Also loved that you are funny without seeming like you are trying to be. The characters are likable and original. All in all, this was a carefully paced read that demands attention."
Lights in the Night
"This was a very enjoyable story to read! I enjoyed following its twists and turns. It had exceptional character development, and I felt like the characters really took on a life of their own on the page. I could picture them all in my mind's eye - both their physical appearance and their inner environment. This made the story especially enjoyable to me. The plot was intriguing and kept me engaged. I loved the writing style you employed. It was very clever and witty. I marked it down for some typos, but other than that it was really good. Great work!"
Lights in the night
"Wow! just about sums up this book! From the death of Trevor parents to his search for the meaning of life, to the mystery of alien lights in the sky, I was held spellbound as the author bound together Ole Sits, Crystal, Barney, and other weird characters' into a story that had me wondering over and over again if in fact this incident had really happened! Also this is the first tine I have EVER ben so wrapped up in a story that I read the entire book in one sitting! I also like the fact that this author has his own style of writing, and look forward to the next book by this artist! ."
Could not stop reading!
"I have to be honest and tell you that I'm not a fan of alien stories, but this book sucked me right in! Your characters, the storyline, the suspense - I could not stop reading! My only criticism is that the punctuation and sentence structure could use some work, but I'm a secretary in my "real life," so those things stick out to me like a sore thumb. Your WRITING itself was wonderful, and for the most part, I was able to overlook the punctuation/sentence structure issues since the story WAS so good! Your characters were relatable and well-developed, and the suspense was perfectly timed. Can't wait to read more!"
Had me chuckling out loud
"Really fun story that had me chuckling out loud more than once! I loved the care dedicated to the language, like the use of the British term "lorry" rather than "truck" from Trevor. My impression is it might need a little bit of editing towards the end (there are a few typos), and the dream paragraphs are a little unclear, but I really enjoyed it! Will review on Amazon :) Also I don't know if this helps, and I struggled a lot with my blurb as well: I'm not sure your synopsis and book cover do your novel justice - maybe a little tweaking could make the novel shine more."
I could see it as a movie.
"I liked it, I'm a pretty big fan of alien stories, X-files all that junk, conspiracy shows, ancient aliens, can't get enough of it, so this is right up my alley. That being said my only real criticisms are structural. I guess you felt the need for a prologue because it starts a little slow but honestly, I don't think it really needs one and it kind of robs the reader of the mystery of the old man. I think you could have held out and been a little more coy with the old man's story. It would have garnered a little more intrigue, a little more mystery rather than just lying it right on the table. There's a lot of telling, not a lot of showing, it's very spoonfed, lots of backstory, lots of character bios right off the bat that kind of weight down a first chapter and are better kind of left maybe for the second chapter. I mean the only people that really get away with that are the old epics. These days it's better to start with the inciting incident, which is exactly what you did but in a way that sucked all the mystery out of it, so it's kind of a catch 22 you're in here. You need something interesting to happen in the first chapter that grabs people and makes them want to read on but you also could do with a little more mystery, a little more showing, less telling. But those are my only little criticisms, other than that the writing is good and confident, couldn't see any mistakes really. You have a good grasp for the area since it says you actually lived there, so that helps haha. I wish you the best of luck with it."
Could be Made into a Great Sci-Fi Film!
"This story is filled with suspense, interesting happenings, aliens, and compelling characters. The way the author sets up the story is engaging and lets me clearly see what's going on in my head. My favorite character in this book was Trevor, finding him relatable, interesting, and a great character of the story, although I still loved many others in the book like Barney, Crystal, Ellie, and Jim. The writing style used was great, and I felt I was pulled into the author's world. Overall, this is a great novel, though a good read through out loud might be a good idea. There are a couple places in dialogue where the author can use contractions to sound more casual. Also, in the last chapter before the epilogue you spelled Crystal as Chrystal. GREAT WORK, AND I COULD SEE THIS BEING MADE INTO A SUCCESSFUL FILM. :)"
Lights in the Night
"Dear Greg, The strength of this book lies in the continuing mystery of the UFO lights above Maryville ,Texas and the character of Trevor, who comes from UK seeking deep understanding, although making money is needful because of his situation. He never values money over insight, and as the weird and weirder character set unrolls before him, he unfailingly gives everyone the benefit of the doubt and helps when he can, while still trying to heal the hole in his own heart. This novel was far out, with multidimensional beings among other phenomena, but it never seemed impossible to the reader. Instead, it pulled me forward to the surprising conclusion at (excuse me) light speed. I don't usually read sci fi/fantasy but I will look for the sequel since I am fascinated with Trevor and his approach to life. Great job! cheers, Laura Hoopes"
Lights in the Night
"I thoroughly enjoyed this book -very entertaining – fast paced – good character development. The subject of aliens and the idea of inter-dimensional travel is a very intriguing topic. I enjoyed the tongue-in-check humor. Can't wait for the next book in the series."
Good research
"As someone who normally doesn't read UFO type books I enjoyed the writing style and how easy and relate-able it was to follow along. Its very easy to see that the author is very knowledge and did a lot of research for the settings and the subject itself to get an idea for the plot."
Great Read for a Non-Fan
"I'm not a Scifi person, so I read this with a few grains of salt, but I can say that I did enjoy it greatly! I love the humor, every book has its hints of humor. And I love the idea and the plot, it's just an interesting way to spend the weekend, haha. I love who it ended, I don't want to spoil much of anything so Imma be vague~ It was great! Even for someone who isn't much of a fan in the genre,"
interesting, but Oxford comma lovers beware
"I am huge sci-fan; love all the classics and authors, which a few were mentioned in the story, but the constant missing or misplaced commas and sentence fragments made this a halting read for me. When I would get to a part in the story that got exciting, I would hit the brick wall of bad punctuation and sentences starting with "and." The idea for the main phenomena in Texas is interesting, but the character of Trevor bored me, and some of the secondary characters seemed to be borrowed from other stories; i.e. "Big Jim" sounds a lot like Big Jim from Stephen King's "Under the Dome"; a shorter, mild-aged male with too much money and a Napoleon complex. I could see market potential for this story if it had a partial rewrite and proper editing so that it flowed on the page instead of feeling like stop-and-go traffic through a bottleneck."
Lights in the Night
"This writer has the ability to put the reader right there with the characters. I felt like I was in Texas and part of this wonderful story. The characters come to life from his descriptions, this novel kept me interested from the beginning to the end. I look forward to the next work from this talented writer."
Good Sci-fi novel
"I love the plunge this story's first chapter gave me. It started really smooth and I thought it was going to take a while to pick up but all of a sudden, boom! I was screaming along with the characters. This book is very descriptive and makes the reader feel like they're a part of the story. I've always been curious about aliens so that helped keep my interest as I took in more and more of the story. I really wanted to know more about the bright lights in the sky. What didn't work for me was the writing style. It was great in some chapters, taking me to an all time high, only to drop me in the next chapter with not so interesting details I felt the book could have done without. In all, I believe Sci-fi lovers will enjoy this story."
Good Read
"Well, I will say this. It was a good book, that kept me engaged. I don’t mind the genre because really, if the book is good, I will read just about anything. However, for me there were some parts that seemed disjointed. Almost like an original thought started and was completed, but there was no lead into the next scene sometimes. But for the most part the story had a good flow. All the characters are likable. Though I wish I would have gotten to know more about Barney. The punctuation and grammar was good, with nothing standing out that hinders the reading of this book. All in all, it is a pretty good read, and I enjoyed it."
