Professor Mason

Life has been turned upside down since Professor Mason, our new History teacher, arrived. I’m not gonna lie, it’s been a real adjustment. School used to start at a reasonable hour, but now we’re talking 9:00 am and ending at a whopping 6:00 pm. It’s exhausting, and to be honest, it’s been tough to squeeze in some quality time with my family. But, I guess that’s what happens when you’re trying to cram an extra hour or two of learning into the day.

At first, Professor Mason seemed like a pretty cool guy. He was all calm and collected, and we thought we were in for a smooth ride. But, after the Christmas holidays, things took a weird turn. He started acting all sorts of odd and unpredictable. I mean, we’re talking mood swings, bro.

Anyway, today’s weather was straight out of a horror movie. Dark clouds everywhere, it was like dawn all over again. I grabbed my bag and bolted downstairs, feeling like I was running on fumes. I asked Mom what the time was, and she gave me this ‘you’re running late’ look. ‘It’s 9:30,’ she said, like I was supposed to know that already. Great, just what I needed - another reminder that I’m already behind schedule.

As I stepped out of the house, the clouds seemed to be gearing up for a storm. I was so caught up in my own thoughts that I didn’t even notice the rain until it was too late. Suddenly, I was drenched from head to toe. I let out a frustrated mutter, “Great, no umbrella!” I shook my head, trying to get rid of the excess water, and made my way to school.

As I approached the classroom, I couldn’t help but notice Professor Mason’s handsome face waiting for me. He beckoned me to come inside and instructed me to stand on stage. I did as he asked, trying to ignore the way he was looking at me. But then he said, “You’re late, looks like your mother didn’t wake you up huh?” My face started to burn with embarrassment. I shook my head vigorously. “No, no, it was the rain!” I protested.

But Professor Mason just laughed. “The rain stopped you, all right,” he said, his eyes twinkling with amusement. “Looks like you’re the only one who didn’t make it on time. All the other kids are here, except you... wow.” His words stung, and my anger boiled over. How dare he make fun of me in front of everyone? I felt my face grow hot with rage, and I couldn’t help but wonder what else he had planned for us today.

As I stormed out of the classroom with my friends Leanie, Nora, and Helen, I couldn’t help but feel like I was going to explode. They were all teasing me about Professor Mason’s comments, and I couldn’t take it anymore. “To be honest, Hazel, he did roast you,” Leanie said with a giggle. Nora and Helen chimed in, laughing and making fun of me. My anger boiled over, and I snapped at them. “You all are saying this because you have a crush on him, he’s a jerk!” But my friends just laughed and told me to calm down.

It wasn’t until 5:00 pm that I found out what was really going on. Our school had a strict rule that teachers couldn’t take personal classes outside of school hours, but rumor had it that Professor Mason was doing just that. I was shocked and disbelieving. What kind of teacher was he? I decided to confront him, and I made my way to his office.

But when I got there, something felt off. Professor Mason was sitting behind his desk, his smile eerily mysterious. I was about to turn around and leave, but he beat me to it. He grabbed my hand and wouldn’t let go. I tried to pull away, but he held tight. ‘What do you want, Hazel?’ he asked, his voice low and menacing. I felt a shiver run down my spine as I realized that I was in way over my head.

I tried to pull away, but he held tight. ‘I came to ask you about your personal classes,’ I said, trying to sound calm. But he just laughed. ‘Oh, you’re curious about that, huh? Well, let me tell you, Hazel. You’re a bright student, and I think you’d be interested in what I have to offer.’

I felt a surge of fear mixed with excitement. What did he have to offer? Was it some kind of tutoring or mentorship? Or was it something more? The way he was looking at me made my heart race.

‘Professor Mason,’ I said, trying to keep my voice steady. ‘I’m not sure what you’re talking about. But I think I should go.’

He chuckled and pulled me closer. ‘Oh, no, Hazel. You’re not going anywhere. Not yet, at least.’

I felt a chill run down my spine as he leaned in closer. His eyes were intense and passionate, and for a moment, I forgot all about my fear and just felt... alive.

‘I’m 27 years old, Hazel,’ he said, his voice low and husky. ‘And I’ve been teaching for five years. But I’ve never felt this way about any student before. You’re different, Hazel. You’re special.’

I felt a blush rise to my cheeks as he gazed at me with an intensity that made my heart skip a beat. Was he serious? Was he actually flirting with me?

‘Professor Mason,’ I said, trying to sound firm but failing miserably. ‘This is completely inappropriate.’

He smiled and leaned in closer. ‘Ah, but it’s not just about being inappropriate, Hazel. It’s about being alive. And feeling things that make you feel alive.’

I felt a shiver run down my spine as he spoke the words. Was he telling me that he wanted to make me feel alive? Or was he just using his charm to get what he wanted?

As I stood there, frozen in uncertainty, I knew that one thing was certain: nothing would ever be the same again.

I felt like I was trapped in a nightmare, unable to move or escape. Professor Mason’s eyes seemed to bore into my soul, and I could feel his breath on my skin. I was acutely aware of the way his fingers were wrapped around my wrist, holding me in place.

‘You’re so beautiful, Hazel,’ he whispered, his voice husky and low. ‘I’ve never seen anyone like you.’

I felt a shiver run down my spine as he spoke the words. Was he really saying that? Or was he just trying to make me feel uncomfortable?

‘I think you should let me go,’ I said, trying to sound firm but failing miserably.

He chuckled and leaned in closer. ‘Oh, Hazel. You’re not going anywhere. At least, not until I’m finished with you.’

I felt a chill run down my spine as he spoke the words. What did he mean by that? Was he going to hurt me?

Just as I was starting to panic, I heard the sound of footsteps outside the door. It was Leanie, Nora, and Helen, come to check on me.

‘Professor Mason!’ Leanie exclaimed, her voice loud and shrill. ‘What’s going on here?’

He smiled and released his grip on my wrist. ‘Ah, girls. Just having a little chat with Hazel. You know how it is.’

I felt a wave of relief wash over me as Leanie and the others entered the room. They were all chattering and laughing, completely unaware of what had just happened.

But as I looked back at Professor Mason, I saw something in his eyes that made my heart skip a beat. It was a spark of recognition, a glimmer of understanding that he had gone too far.

And for a moment, I wondered if he was going to stop himself. Or if he was going to keep pushing me until I said yes.”

I was about to leave the room, feeling embarrassed and awkward, but before I could make my exit, Mason’s voice stopped me. ‘Are you scared?’ he asked, his tone lighthearted and playful.

I turned around, feeling a flush rise to my cheeks. ‘Scared of what?’ I asked, trying to sound nonchalant.

Mason grinned mischievously. ‘Of what’s going on here,’ he said, gesturing to the group of friends chatting and laughing around us.

I raised an eyebrow. ‘What’s going on?’

Mason leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. ‘I think your friends are trying to hook you up with me.’

I felt my heart skip a beat as I turned to look at my friends. They were all smiling and chatting, but they were definitely giving Mason a lot of attention.

I shook my head, feeling a mix of embarrassment and annoyance. ‘No way,’ I said firmly. ‘I’m not interested in him.’

Mason chuckled. ‘Oh, come on,’ he said, putting his arm around me. ‘I think we could have a lot of fun together.’

I pushed him away, feeling a surge of irritation. ‘No, Professor Mason. I’m not interested.’

Mason shrugged, looking disappointed but not surprised. ‘Okay, okay,’ he said. ‘But if you change your mind, you know who to call.’

I watched him walk away, feeling a mix of emotions. Was it possible that Mason was actually interested in me? And if so, was it worth exploring?

I turned to face him, my eyes blazing with anger. “Professor, I’m your student,” I said, my voice low and even. “There’s a gap between us, and I’d appreciate it if you understood that and never tried to cross it again.”

Mason’s face fell, and for a moment, he looked taken aback. But then, his expression changed, and he looked at me with a mixture of surprise and annoyance. “Oh, come on,” he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “You’re not going to play the ‘student-teacher’ card with me, are you?”

I felt a surge of anger at his words, and I took a step closer to him. “Yes, that’s exactly what I’m doing,” I said, my voice rising. “And you know why? Because it’s inappropriate. You’re my professor, and I’m your student. There’s a power imbalance between us, and you’re taking advantage of it.”

Mason snorted. “You’re being ridiculous,” he said. “I’m just trying to have a little fun.”

I felt my anger boil over, and I slapped my hand down on the table. “You’re not funny, Professor,” I said, my voice shaking with rage. “You’re manipulative and entitled. And I’m not going to stand for it.”

The room fell silent, and all eyes turned to us. Mason’s face turned red with anger, and he looked like he was about to explode.

But then, something unexpected happened. The other students in the room started to murmur in agreement with me. They were nodding their heads and whispering things like “Yeah, that’s true” and “You’re right.”

Mason’s expression changed from anger to shock, and he looked like he’d been punched in the gut. For a moment, he just stood there, staring at me.

And then, he turned and walked away.

I felt a sense of relief wash over me as I watched him go. It was over. It was finally over.

But as I turned to leave the room, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease. What would happen next? Would Mason try to apologize or make amends? Or would he just try to brush it off and pretend it never happened?

I didn’t know, but I did know one thing - I was done with him.
