THEMBA T TWALA III

EPISODE 1

“Dad, Mom, I must marry Joy. Nothing can stop me from marrying her. I can’t leave her. We’ve come a long way in our relationship. Our spirits are bonded together, and we are like one body now. I won’t give up on her just because our parents are having issues. Never. No one can make me hate someone who hasn’t offended me. Your enemy is not my enemy, and I don’t expect you to hate my enemy either.”

Once upon a time, there was a boy named Dennies. Dennies was blessed with supernatural powers that no one could easily comprehend. However, these powers only surfaced when he became angry, turning him into an unstoppable force. When Dennies was consumed by anger, his body would harden like iron, though outwardly, no one could detect the change. Even if someone were to shoot him with a gun, the bullets would bounce off as if they hit solid rock. It was as if he was untouchable. He could run faster than a motorbike, and his strength surpassed anything imaginable. God had created him as someone extraordinary. Dennies lived with his parents, Mr. Godwin and Mrs. Faith, along with his two sisters, Mercy and Loveth. Their family wasn’t wealthy, but they lived peacefully, managing to get by with what they had. Dennies didn’t know he had these powers until one fateful day in secondary school when he discovered them. After finishing primary school, Dennies parents enrolled him in a boarding school called City College Boys & Girls Boarding School in Willington town, white State, south Africa

The school was well-known but modest, and Dennies adjusted quickly to his new environment. When Dennies

began SS1, a new student named Joy joined his class. Joy was exceptionally beautiful, intelligent, and reserved. She rarely made friends, especially with boys, and this mysterious demeanor made her even more captivating. Joy came from a wealthy family. Her parents, Mr. Courage and Mrs. Grace, were prominent figures in society, known for their wealth and generosity. Despite their riches, they believed in supporting local institutions, which was why they enrolled Joy in City College. Mr. Courage valued everything made in south Africa and believed in uplifting the community around him. One afternoon, while walking around the school premises, Dennis

spotted Joy for the first time. Her radiant beauty and graceful demeanor took his breath away. Dennies thought to himself, this girl is so beautiful. I must talk to her. He quickly approached her. “Excuse me,” he said, trying to gather his courage. Joy stopped, giving him a brief glance. “Yes?” she asked, her tone polite but distant. “How far?” Dennies began awkwardly. “I’m good,” Joy replied, already walking away. “Can I have ten minutes of your time? There’s something I want to tell you,” Dennies said hurriedly. Joy turned slightly and said, ·1 don’t even

have the time, so I’m sorry.” Without another word, she walked into her classroom. Dennies watched her leave, a

small smile forming on his face. I love this type of girl, he thought. If they love you, they will love you forever. This is just the first time. Maybe, with time, she will change her mind. Dennies and Joy were in the same grade but in different classrooms. Dennies was in Class C, while Joy was in Class B. They only met during joint lessons like English, Mathematics, and Civic Education. During these sessions, Dennies couldn’t help but observe her-her intelligence, her focus, and her undeniable beauty. Day by day, Dennis’s admiration for Joy grew into love. But every time he tried to approach her, she would dismiss him, saying, “I don’t make friends with people, so there’s no point in you trying.” Dennies wasn’t deterred. Each day, he would find a reason to speak to her, but Joy remained firm in her stance, politely but firmly rejecting him. Years passed, and by the time they reached SS3, Dennis’s feelings for Joy had only deepened. One day, the SS3 students decided to go on an excursion to visit

a zoo. Everyone contributed money for the trip, and the excitement was palpable. The day finally arrived, and the students boarded the school bus, eager for the adventure. Unknown to them, trouble was brewing. A teacher from the school had leaked information to a group of kidnappers, telling them that Joy would be part of the excursion. Knowing how wealthy her parents were, the kidnappers saw this as an opportunity to demand a huge ransom. The students were on their way to Cimarex Zoo in Willington town when danger struck. As the bus approached Ore Highway, the driver suddenly slammed on the brakes. In front of them stood ten heavily armed men, blocking the road with AK-47 rifles in hand. “Kidnappers! Kidnappers!” the driver shouted in panic. Chaos erupted inside the bus as the students screamed and scrambled for safety. “Run into the bush!′ the driver yelled. Without hesitation, the students bolted out of the bus, scattering into the dense forest. Dennies, Joy, and their classmates ran as fast as they could, the sound of the kidnappers’ shouts echoing behind them. The kidnappers pursued them into the bush, determined to capture their target-Joy.

EPISODE 2

The dense forest echoed with frantic footsteps and panicked cries as the students ran for their lives. The kidnappers, armed and ruthless, began shooting into the air to instill fear in their prey. “Stop there, or I’ll kill you!” one of the kidnappers shouted in a thunderous voice. Many of the students froze in terror, their courage draining away. But among them, Dennies, Joy, and a handful of other brave students refused to surrender. Determined

to escape, they split into two groups, each running in a different direction. The kidnappers, realizing the division, quickly regrouped. Half of them pursued Denis’s group, while the rest chased after Joy and her companions. Joy and her group sprinted as fast as their legs could carry them. The dense undergrowth scratched their skin, but they pressed on, ignoring the pain. The kidnappers were relentless, closing in on them. “Stop there, or we’ll kill you all!” the kidnappers shouted again, firing shots into the air. But Joy and her fellow students didn’t heed their warnings. Fear of capture outweighed their fear of bullets. That was until a sharp crack rang out-a single gunshot. One of the students fell to the ground, lifeless. The group stopped, horror washing over them. The kidnappers caught up; their faces twisted with malice. “Who is Joy among your one of the kidnappers demanded, his voice cold and menacing. Silence fell over the group. The students looked at each other, unwilling to betray their friend. ·1 said, who is Joy? If you don’t answer, I’ll Kill each one of you!” the kidnapper barked, raising his weapon threateningly. The students loved Joy too much to give her up. She had always been kind,

helping them whenever she could. In their hearts, they silently resolved: It’s better for me to die than to point out Joy. Frustrated by their defiance, one of the kidnappers grabbed a student and shot him in the head. The horrifying scene sent chills through the group. Tears streaming down her face, Joy finally stepped forward. “I’m

the one you’re looking for. I’m Joy,” she said, her voice trembling. A hard slap landed on her cheek. “You’ve kept us waiting! Are you mad?” the kidnapper snarled. They tied Joy up and selected a few other girls from the group, releasing the rest to return home. Meanwhile, Dennies and his group were still running, unaware of Joy’s plight. Eventually, the kidnappers pursuing Dennies caught up. They encircled the group, forcing them to stop. As the kidnappers searched their belongings, one of them received a phone call. “Come back. We’ve found Joy,” a voice on the other end said. Hearing this, Denis’s heart sank. Joy? Why her? he wondered. Though he wasn’t aware of Joy’s wealthy background, Dennies was overcome with the urge to save her. The thought of her in danger filled him with a strange determination. “I must save her,” he resolved, setting off to follow the kidnappers’ trail. The forest grew darker as Dennies advanced, the sounds of his own footsteps mingling with distant voices. He hid behind a large tree, peeking through the branches. What he saw made his blood boil. Joy and the other kidnapped girls were surrounded by the kidnappers. The leader, a cruel man with a scar across his face, pointed his gun at Joy. “Take off your underpants,” he ordered, smirking. Joy’s tears flowed freely as she obeyed,

trembling. The other girls looked on in horror, powerless to help. Hidden in the shadows, Dennies clenched his fists. An intense anger surged through him, and his body began to feel different-stronger, tougher. Before he knew it, he had stepped out from his hiding spot. “Stop that right now!” he shouted, his voice echoing through the forest. The kidnappers turned, startled. They had expected police or soldiers, not a lone student. “Who are you to interfere?” one of them sneered. “Do you want to die?” “I’m here to save my friend,” Dennies replied, his

voice firm. The leader raised his gun, aiming it at Dennies. But before he could pull the trigger, Dennies moved with incredible speed, disarming him in an instant. The other kidnappers opened fire, but something

extraordinary happened-none of the bullets penetrated Denis’s body. He looked down, astonished. “What’s going on?” Dennies muttered. How come the bullet didn’t penetrate my body. The kidnappers were equally stunned. One of them dropped his weapon and fled. “Drop your guns and leave!” Dennies commanded, his

voice filled with newfound authority. When another kidnapper refused, Dennies rushed at him, grabbing him by the collar. In a blur of motion, he ran a hundred miles, throwing the man to his death before returning to the clearing in mere seconds. The remaining kidnappers, now terrified, dropped their weapons and ran for their lives. Joy, still trembling, looked at Dennies with awe. “You risked your life for me,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Dennies untied her and the other girls, his expression softening. “No one will harm you as long as I’m here,” he assured them. The forest grew silent once more, but Dennies knew this was just the beginning.

EPISODE 3

When the kidnappers ran away, the air was filled with a mix of relief and sadness. Joy looked at Dennies, tears streaming down her face. “Dennies,” she said softly, her voice shaking, “you saved my life. I don’t know how to thank you. You risked everything for me. I’ll never forget this. I owe you, my life.” Dennies shook his head. ’’. Joy, I don’t even know how I did it. Honestly, I thought I was going to die. I was so scared, but then something incredible happened.” He paused, his eyes distant as he remembered. “It felt like a powerful energy came into me from nowhere. It wasn’t just strength-it was something divine. I know now that God was with me, protecting both of us.” Joy’s eyes widened. “Dennies, what you did wasn’t normal. Are you saying this is the first time you’ve felt such power?” “Yes,” Dennies said firmly. “I never knew I had this in me. I’m sure now that God blessed me for this moment. And you know what? I feel alive for the first time. I thank God for using me, even though I don’t deserve it.” Joy looked at him thoughtfully. “Dennies, you’re not just brave; you’re also humble. Thank you for everything.” Other students gathered around them, tears in their eyes. “Dennies, you saved us. We don’t know what would’ve happened without you,” one of them said. “God bless you,” another added. Dennies raised

his hand to calm them. “It wasn’t me,” he said gently. “It was God working through me. But now, we need to focus. Let’s get back to school.” The group headed toward their bus, but their relief turned to sorrow when they found the driver dead-shot by the kidnappers as he tried to escape. “We’ve also lost four students,” Dennies announced sadly after checking. His voice was heavy with grief. The group fell silent, mourning their classmates. Dennies, holding back his own tears, asked, “Does anyone here know how to drive?” Two students raised their hands. Dennies pointed at one. “You’ll drive us back to school,” he instructed. They carefully placed the bodies

of their driver and classmates in the bus. The drive back was silent, filled with tears and prayers. When they reached the school and told the principal what had happened, the atmosphere became even heavier. Teachers and students cried openly. “Why, God? Why did this happen?” the principal cried. “How do I face the parents of those who died?” In the midst of the sorrow, Joy approached Dennies. Her usual calm expression was replaced with emotion. “Dennies,” she began softly, “I need to say something.” “What is it?” he asked, surprised. “I’m sorry,” she said, looking down. “For what?” “For ignoring you all this time,” Joy admitted. ·1 wasn’t trying to be mean. I’ve just never had a boyfriend or even been close to any boy before. I focus so much on my studies that I don’t notice much else. But now, after everything you’ve done, I see how wrong I was.” Dennies stared at her in shock. She continued, “You’ve always cared for me, and I pushed you away. I regret that. Now, I’m ready to give you a chance. You’ve earned my trust and my heart.” Dennies smiled warmly. “You don’t need to apologize, Joy. I’ve always admired your dedication. And thank you for accepting me.” When Joy’s parents heard about the incident, they were horrified but also deeply grateful. They immediately called her to come home. Before she left, Joy said to Dennies, “My parents want to meet you. I’ll be back soon.” “I’ll wait for you,” Dennies replied with a smile. At home, Joy told her parents everything. They listened with shock and gratitude. ·We must meet this young man,” her father said. “He saved our daughter’s life. We need to thank him properly.” When Dennies visited Joy’s family, they were impressed. “Dennies,” Joy’s mother said warmly, “you’ve done something we can never repay. You saved our daughter. From now on, you are part of our family.” Her father added, “We’ll support your education as far as you want to go. And if one day you want to marry Joy, you have our blessing.” Dennies was overwhelmed. “Thank you, sir. Thank you, ma. I’ll never forget your kindness.” Years later, Joy’s parents

fulfilled their promise, putting both Dennies and Joy in the same university. They even arranged for them to live together, trusting Dennies to protect their daughter. One quiet night, as they rested in their room, Joy felt her heart racing. She had always been reserved, but being close to Dennies stirred feelings she didn’t understand. “Dennies,” she whispered. He turned to her, smiling. “Yes, Joy?” She hesitated, her face flushing. “There’s something I need to tell you...”

EPISODE 4

Joy and Dennies lay side by side on the bed, their conversation deep and meaningful. “Dennies,” Joy began softly, her voice trembling slightly. “Can I tell you something I’ve never told anyone before?” Dennies turned his head to look at her, curious and attentive. “Of course, Joy. You can tell me anything.” Joy hesitated for a moment, then said, “I’m still a virgin.” Dennies blinked in surprise and let out a short laugh. “Joy, you’re joking, right? You can’t be serious.” “I’m very serious,” she replied, her eyes locking with his. Dennies: but I thought that the kidnappers rape you the last time. Joy: one of them wanted to rape me” before you intervene. I’ve never been

with anyone. I’ve never fallen in love with any man until you came into my life.” Her sincerity struck Dennies, and he studied her closely. “You’re telling me I’m the first man you’ve ever loved?” “Yes,” Joy affirmed. “You’re the first, and I mean it. If you doubt me, you can check for yourself.” Denis’s face flushed, and he laughed nervously. “Wait, are you actually serious?” “I am,” Joy said, sitting up slightly. “Dennies, think about it. I’ve told you before that my parents are very wealthy. Because of that, many people didn’t even try to get close to me. They thought I’d never accept their friendship or love because of our status. I waited and waited for someone who’d truly care about me, but no one came.” Dennies nodded slowly, processing her words. “That makes sense. Your family’s wealth is intimidating. But you-you’re different. You’re not like how people might assume rich girls are.”

“Exactly,” Joy said with a faint smile. “So, since we’ve known each other, have I ever let you touch me?″ Dennies shook his head. “No, Joy, you haven’t. And honestly, I’ve never tried because I respect you and your parents. They’ve done so much for me-training me through university and providing for all my needs. I’d never want to betray their trust.” Joy’s expression softened. “Dennies, I appreciate your respect. But right now, I need you to know the truth.” Dennies hesitated, then said, “If you’re serious about this, Joy, I-well, I want to check if it’s true.” “Go ahead,” Joy said confidently, pulling down her underpants and looking him in the eyes. Denis’s hands trembled slightly as he reached out. Gently, he checked and confirmed what she had said. His face softened with awe. “Joy,” he murmured, “you weren’t lying. You really are a virgin. I can’t believe this.” Joy smiled shyly. “I told you. I kept myself pure, waiting for someone special. That someone is you, Dennies.” “You’re a gift,” Dennies said, his voice filled with emotion. “I’m so lucky to have you in my life.” Joy leaned closer to him, her

face inches from his. “Dennies, there’s something else. Right now, as I look at you, I feel something ... I want you.

I want you to make love to me. I’ve waited for this moment for so long.” Denis’s eyes widened. “Joy, are you serious?” “I am,” she whispered, her gaze unwavering. “I’ve held on to my virginity for years, but I can’t wait anymore. I want you to be the one to take it.” Dennies hesitated. “But Joy, wouldn’t it be better to wait? When we get married, I’ll make you mine properly, as my wife.” Joy shook her head. ·1 can’t wait that long, Dennies. It’s too far away. I need you now.” Before he could respond, Joy leaned in and kissed him deeply. Dennies, caught off guard, kissed her back. Their passion ignited, and soon, they were lost in each other. As the night deepened, Dennies finally gave in to her desires. Despite the initial pain, Joy clung to him, knowing she had chosen the

man, she loved. Six Years Later Joy and Dennies had graduated from university and completed their master’s degrees. Their bond had only grown stronger over the years. One evening, as they walked hand in hand, Dennies stopped suddenly. “Joy, there’s something I’ve wanted to say for a long time,” he began, his voice nervous yet firm. Joy turned to him, her heart racing. “What is it, Dennies?” He knelt down and pulled a small box from his pocket. Opening it, he revealed a beautiful engagement ring. “Joy,” he said, looking up at her with adoration. “From the day I met you back in boarding school, I’ve known you were special. You’re the one I want to spend my life with. Will you marry me?” Joy’s eyes filled with tears. “Yes, Dennies! Yes, I’ll marry you!” He slipped the ring onto her finger, and they kissed, their hearts overflowing with happiness. Meeting the Parents The next

day, they visited Joy’s parents to share the news. Her parents were thrilled with their academic achievements and welcomed the idea of their marriage. Joy’s father said, “Dennies, we’ve always seen you as part of our family.

You have my blessing to marry my daughter. I’ll even sponsor the wedding.” Dennies, overwhelmed with gratitude, thanked him profusely. However, when Denniss returned with his parents to formally meet Joy’s family, everything changed. As soon as Joy’s father saw Denis’s father, his expression darkened. “Godwin?” he

said in disbelief. “Yes, it’s me,” Godwin replied. Joy’s father’s face contorted with anger. ’God forbids! If I had known you were Denis’s father, I would never have trained him or allowed him near my daughter.” Joy and Dennies were stunned. “Father, what’s going on?” Joy asked, her voice trembling. Her father turned to her; his voice cold. “From today, I forbid you from seeing Dennies. If you disobey me, I’ll have him arrested.” Joy’s heart shattered. “Why, Father? What happened between you and Denis’s father?” Her father refused to answer. “I’ve said what

I need to say. Godwin, leave my house, and never come back.” Joy turned to Dennies with tears in her eyes. “Go home for now. I’ll call you later. We’ll figure this out.” Dennies nodded reluctantly and left with his parents, confusion and heartbreak written all over his face. The love they shared was now overshadowed by a dark past neither of them understood.

EPISODE 5

The following day, Joy approached her father. She was determined to uncover the truth, no matter how difficult it might be. “Father: she began hesitantly, “what is the real issue between you and Denis’s father?″ Her father’s face immediately hardened, his lips pressing into a thin line. He sighed heavily before responding, “I don’t have the time or the desire to discuss Godwin with anyone.” Joy pressed on, undeterred by his resistance. “But why, Father? I need to know because this affects me too. Dennies and I are in love. We’ve even talked about marriage.” Her father’s expression darkened. “Joy, I’ve vowed never to have anything to do with Godwin again. That is final.” “But why? What happened between you two? Please, Father, I deserve to know. If you don’t tell me, how can I understand? How can I convince you to give us your blessing?” Her father was silent for a moment,

staring at the floor as if debating with himself. Finally, he relented. “Fine, I’ll tell you: he said, his voice heavy with

emotion. “But I warn you, what you hear might not change my decision.” Joy nodded, her heart racing. Her father began, “Godwin and I grew up together in Muise, in Ojibwe, Willington, south Africa. We were inseparable back

then. When we were in our early twenties, our friendship was the envy of everyone in the village. People used to say we were like twins because we dressed alike, walked together, and stood up for each other no matter what. If you touched me, you had touched Godwin, and if you touched Godwin, you had touched me. We fought

together, laughed together, and even shared our dreams.” His voice grew softer as the spoke of those days, a hint of nostalgia creeping in despite the bitterness that followed. “But life was not easy for me: he continued. “My parents and all my siblings died in a car accident when I was just a teenager. They were on their way back from a wedding in Enugu when tragedy struck. After that, I had no one. I was left to fend for myself. I worked hard• doing any kind of labor I could find-to pay my school fees, feed myself, and survive. “Godwin, on the other hand, still had his parents. They were kind to me, but it wasn’t the same as having my own family. Still, Godwin and I stayed close, and I thought nothing could break the bond we shared.” He paused, his gaze distant as he relived the memories. Joy waited patiently, knowing there was more. ″l>. after secondary school,” he continued, “we

decided to apply for jobs at a quarry company in Uhuru called Asphalt Universal Company (A.U.C). We were lucky to be hired as security guards. The pay was good-better than most jobs at the time-because the company valued its security staff and recognized the tough hours we worked. “For me, that job was a lifeline. It allowed me to feed myself, save some money, and even start dreaming of a better future. Godwin and I worked there for over a year, and everything seemed fine-until things changed.” Joy noticed the shift in her father’s tone. The warmth of his earlier memories was gone, replaced by bitterness. “Godwin was promoted to Chief Security Officer,” he said. “I was genuinely happy for him. As C.S.O., he had more responsibilities and, of course, a higher salary. But with power comes temptation. Godwin began to change. ″Around that time, I met a girl named Faith. She was everything I ever wanted in a woman-kind, beautiful, and full of life. We fell in love, and I was serious about her. I even introduced her to Godwin as the woman I wanted to marry. He congratulated me, wished me well, and told me I deserved happiness after all I’d been through. “I believed him. I trusted him. But I had no idea what he was plotting behind my back.” Joy leaned forward, hanging on every word. “Godwin somehow got Faith’s phone number without my knowledge. He began calling her, texting her, trying to win her over. At first, Faith told me about it, and I dismissed it as a joke. I thought, ‘This is Godwin-my best friend. He would never betray me.’ But I was wrong.” Her father’s voice cracked slightly, but he pushed on. “When Godwin realized Faith wasn’t interested in him, he decided to take things a step further. He knew the only reason Faith wasn’t tempted by him was because I was still providing for her. I was earning enough to take care of myself and help her as well. So, what

did he do? He used his position as C.S.O. to have me fired from the company.” Joy gasped. “He fired you? Just like that?” “Yes,” her father said, his voice trembling with suppressed anger. “He accused me of negligence, of not doing my job properly. And because he was the C.S.O., his word was final. I was devastated. I couldn’t believe my best friend, the man I considered a brother, would do such a thing to me. “I had some savings, so at first, I didn’t feel the impact of losing my job. But as time went on, the money ran out. I couldn’t find another job, and I started struggling to make ends meet. Faith noticed the change, and that was when Godwin struck again. ’He used his position and money to lure her away from me. They began seeing each other in secret, and when I found out, I confronted Faith. She denied everything at first, but her actions spoke louder than words. She started disobeying me on purpose, trying to provoke me into breaking up with her. “But I couldn’t. I loved her too much. I was willing

to forgive her, even after all the pain she caused me. Then one day.: Her father’s voice trailed off, and he fell

silent. Joy reached out and touched his hand gently. “What happened, Father?′ He looked at her, his eyes filled with a mixture of sorrow and anger. “That’s a story for another day,” he said quietly. ’But now you understand why I can never forgive Godwin. He betrayed me in the worst possible way. And now, you want to marry his son?″ Joy felt a lump in her throat, unsure of how to respond.

EPISODE 6

Mr. Courage continued to tell his daughter Joy the reason why he said Dennies would not marry her. He began, “As everything unfolded, there was a time Faith came to me one day and said, ‘When are you coming to pay my bride price? Many suitors are coming to ask for my hand in marriage. I need to know what to tell them.’ Her words shook me because I loved Faith deeply, but I wasn’t financially prepared for marriage. I pleaded with her, saying, ‘Please, have patience with me. The money I have now is not enough to pay your bride price or plan a proper wedding.’ But Faith was adamant. She said, ‘If you want to marry me, you need to act fast before it’s too late. Time isn’t on my side.’ She explained, ’You know we women are like flowers. When we are young, we bloom beautifully, but as time passes, we age. My age is catching up with me,

and I’m giving you only two months to prepare for our marriage.′ Her words weighed heavily on me. I responded,

‘Two months is too short, Faith. Please give me six months so I can plan everything properly. I don’t want to disgrace myself on that day.’ But Faith shook her head and insisted, ’No, only two months. After that, anything

you see, you will take it like that.′ Her ultimatum left me sleepless. Every day, I thought about what Faith had said.

I loved her deeply and didn’t want to lose her, so I increased my efforts to find a better job. But no matter how hard I tried, nothing worked. It felt like a curse had been placed on my destiny. One month passed, and every time I called Faith, the first thing she asked was, ‘Are you ready to pay my bride price?’ If I tried to steer the

conversation elsewhere, she would cut the call. Soon, I heard rumors that Faith had started visiting Godwin at his house. Godwin, my childhood friend, asked Faith to marry him, and to my shock, she agreed. They even set a

date for their traditional marriage and wedding. I found out through a mutual acquaintance that Godwin’s wedding was scheduled for the next month. At first, I was happy for him, recalling the good times we shared as children. But when I learned the bride was Faith, my heart shattered. Desperate, I called a family friend and begged him to lend me some money. I promised to repay him within a year. He said, ‘I’ll help you, but not now. Wait two months. I’m expecting some money, and once I receive it, I’ll give you the loan.’ I thanked him and left, holding onto that hope. Then, I called Faith and told her, ‘I want to come and see your family in two months for the traditional marriage and wedding.’ Her response was like a dagger to my heart. She said, ‘I’m no longer interested in marrying you. I’ve found another man who is serious about life.’ I was stunned. I asked, ‘Who is he? Who is the man you want to marry?’ Faith replied coldly, ‘That’s none of your business.’ She hung up, leaving me in despair. For days, I wandered aimlessly, crying and questioning my fate. I begged Faith to reconsider, but she refused. The pain of her betrayal was unbearable. It felt like my life had ended. The day of Godwin’s traditional

marriage was particularly painful. I was lying in bed when my phone rang. It was Matthew, another friend of mine. He said, ‘Hey, have you heard? Godwin’s traditional marriage is in four days. I want us to go together.’ I hesitated, telling him, ‘I’m not sure I can go. Godwin and I are not on good terms.’ But Matthew insisted, ‘You need to let go of the past. Attend the wedding for my sake, if not for his.’ Reluctantly, I agreed. On the morning of the wedding,

I called Faith, hoping she would accompany me. I said, ‘Let’s go together to Godwin’s wedding.’ Faith’s reply was harsh. ‘I’m not going anywhere with you.’ She ended the call abruptly. Despite my heavy heart, I dressed up for

the occasion. As I prepared to leave, my mind screamed at me not to go. But I remembered the loan Matthew had promised me. I thought, ‘If attending this wedding will secure the money, I’ll go.’ I met Matthew at Abihu

junction, and we traveled together to the venue. When we arrived, what I saw shattered me completely.

EPISODE 7

When we arrived at the traditional marriage ceremony, we found a secluded place to sit where we could quietly observe everything happening. When the time came for the MC to call the bride to greet her guests, Faith, the bride, started making her way out. As soon as I saw her, my world crumbled-I fainted. Only my close friend, Mathew, noticed. He quickly fanned me until I regained consciousness. Tears filled my eyes as I tried to process what I was witnessing. I whispered to myself, “What am I seeing here? Am I dreaming? Is this real?” The bride• Faith-was none other than the woman I had planned to marry. My Faith. But there she was, dressed as a bride, getting married to someone else. Not just anyone, but my old best friend, Godwin. I muttered to myself, “Godwin, how could you do this to me? After everything we’ve been through? The struggles, the sacrifices, the dreams we shared. And now this?!” I couldn’t contain my emotions. Mathew noticed my distress and asked, “What’s wrong with you? Are you okay?” I tried to compose myself and replied, “It’s nothing. I’ll be back.” “Alright,” Mathew said, still looking concerned. I left the venue and headed straight home. As soon as I entered my house, I broke down

in tears. “Why would Godwin betray me like this? My best friend! The one I trusted the most!” That day, I made a vow. “I will never speak to or associate with Godwin again. As long as the sun rises, I will consider him dead to me.” Soon after, I left town and moved to another state to start afresh. With the little money I had left, I began a small business. Four years later, through hard work and determination, I became a successful businessman. The Present-Day Joy’s father sat with her, his face stern as he spoke. “This is why I have said, and will continue to say, that you cannot marry Dennies.” Joy pleaded; her voice filled with emotion. “Papa, please, I beg you. Whatever happened in the past, let’s leave it there. Dennies and I love each other.” Her father cut her off, his tone final. “Enough! You are too young to understand these matters. I have spoken, and that’s the end of it.” He stood and walked away, leaving Joy heartbroken. She sat there, her mind racing. Later, Dennies confronted his father, Godwin. “Papa, I need answers. What is going on between you and Joy’s father? Why is he so determined to stop us from being together?” Godwin sighed deeply, the weight of his past catching up with him. He finally

confessed. “Dennies, years ago, I betrayed my best friend, Courage. He was like a brother to me. We grew up together, struggled together, and supported each other. But I let greed and envy consume me. I snatched his fiancée, Faith-your mother-and married her. On top of that, I used my position as the Chief Security Officer at Asphalt Universal Company to get him fired. I ruined his life.” Dennies stared at his father, disbelief and anger evident on his face. “You mean to tell me that because of your selfishness, you destroyed a man’s life? Your best friend’s life?” Godwin nodded; guilt etched on his face. “I don’t know what came over me. It’s something I regret every day.” Dennis shook his head in disgust. “You’re heartless, Papa. And now your actions have put my future with Joy in jeopardy. If I can’t marry her because of you, I promise this house won’t contain the both of us!” He stormed out, leaving Godwin to reflect on the gravity of his mistakes. Two Days Later Dennies called Joy. “I need to see you. Let’s meet this afternoon at Elbow-Alone Hotel. There’s something important we need to discuss.” “Alright,” Joy replied. “I’ll be there.” That afternoon, they met in the hotel lounge. Dennies could see the worry in Joy’s eyes. “Joy,” he began, taking her hand, “I’m so sorry for all the pain my father’s actions have caused. I promise you; I’ll do whatever it takes to fix this. I’ll convince my father to make amends with your family.” Joy nodded, tears welling up. “Dennies, I believe in you. I just hope my father will find it in his heart to forgive your family. I don’t want to lose you.” “You won’t,” Dennies said firmly. “I’ll fight for us, no matter what it takes.” Godwin’s Reflection Alone in his room, Godwin paced back and forth, consumed by guilt. “Courage loved me like a brother, and I repaid him with betrayal. Because of my actions, my son might lose the woman he loves. How could I have been so foolish? All for a position and a moment of selfishness.” He sat down and buried his face in his hands. “I have to make things right. Even if Courage never forgives me, I need to try. I owe it to Dennies• and to myself-to seek redemption.”

At the hotel: Dennies looked into Joy’s eyes, a deep sadness clouding his face. “I’m sorry, Joy: he began, his voice trembling

with emotion. “I’m truly sorry for what my father did to your father. Despite how close they were, he still had the

heart to treat him so cruelly. I don’t even know how to express my regret, but please believe me when I say I wish things had been different.” Joy reached for his hand, her grip firm yet comforting. “Dennies: she said softly, “it’s not your fault. You shouldn’t bear the weight of something you didn’t do. What happened between our fathers was their fight, not ours. It doesn’t define what we have.” Tears glistened in Denis’s eyes. “But it does, Joy. It complicates everything. I can’t stop thinking about what will happen if your father forbids us from being

together. What if he refuses to let us marry? I don’t think I’d survive that. The love I have for you, Joy-it’s not something I can just let go of. We’ve come so far in this relationship, and the thought of losing you... I just can’t bear it.” Joy tightened her grip on his hand. “Dennies,” she said, her voice steady, “listen to me. I love you. Nothing-do you hear me? Nothing-can separate us. Not my father, not your father, not anyone. We are meant to be together, and no one can stop that. So don’t let this fear consume you. I’ve got your back, no matter what happens.” Dennies sighed deeply, his heart a mix of relief and lingering worry. “Joy, you don’t know how much that means to me. But what if your father never forgives mine? What if their grudge keeps us apart forever?” Joy smiled reassuringly. “My father is a good man, Dennies. Yes, he’s hurt, but he’s not someone who holds onto grudges forever. If your father apologizes sincerely, I believe my father will forgive him. Tell your father to take the first step. I know my father; he will listen.” Dennies nodded slowly. “You’re right. Your father has always been a good man. He’s done so much for me-paying my school fees, helping me out when I had nothing. I owe him a lot. I’ll talk to my father. He needs to set things right.” Joy smiled, her heart swelling with love for him. “Good.

EPISODE 8

Let’s not let this weigh us down anymore. We’ll get through this together.” Before they left the hotel, Dennies leaned in and kissed Joy gently. “Thank you,” he whispered. At Denis’s house: When Dennies arrived home, he found his mother, Faith, sitting in the living room. She looked up and smiled at him, but her smile faded when she saw the troubled expression on his face. “Dennies, what’s wrong?” she asked. He sat down across from her, his gaze intense. “Mother, I need to know something. Why did you and Dad do what you did to Courage? After all the years of friendship, why betray him like that? Do you know how much pain it caused?” Faith sighed heavily, her shoulders slumping. “Dennies, it’s not something I’m proud of. Your father-Godwin-he has a way with words. He manipulated me, convinced me to leave Courage for him. I didn’t realize the full extent of the harm I was causing until it was too late. I regret it every single day.” Dennies shook his head, his disappointment evident. “You should’ve known better, Mother. Courage was your best friend: ·1 know: Faith whispered. “And I’m

sorry, my son: Dennies stood abruptly. “It’s not me you need to apologize to. It’s Courage. Both of you.” Later

that evening: Dennies found his father in the study, poring over some old documents. “Father, we need to talk:

he said firmly. Godwin looked up, startled by the seriousness in his son’s tone. “What is it, Dennies?” “It’s about Courage, · Dennies began. “You need to apologize to him. You have to beg for his forgiveness. I love Joy, and I won’t let your past mistakes ruin my future. Please, Father. This isn’t just about you anymore.” Godwin leaned back in his chair, a pained expression on his face. “Dennies, you don’t understand. What I did to Courage-it’s unforgivable. I stole the woman he loved. I broke his heart. Do you think he’ll just forgive me because I ask?” Denis’s voice rose. “You have to try, Father! Do you know how I’d feel if someone tried to take Joy away from me? I’d fight with everything I have to keep her. That’s how much I love her.” Godwin nodded slowly. “Alright, Dennies. I’ll do it. I’ll go and apologize. But I can’t promise he’ll forgive me.” The next day: At breakfast, Godwin turned to Faith. “We’re going to Courage’s house tomorrow to ask for his forgiveness. Dennies has convinced me it’s the right thing to do.” Faith hesitated before nodding. “It’s long overdue. I just hope he’ll listen.” Dennies

called Joy to confirm her father’s availability. “Hello, Joy: he said. “To your father home tomorrow? My parents and

I want to come over to apologize.” “Yes: Joy replied. “He’ll be home. I’ll let him know you’re coming.” Dennies hung up and turned to his parents. •Joy said he’ll be home. Let’s get this over with.” The next day, they set out for Courage’s house. their hearts heavy with anticipation.

EPISODE 9

When Dennies and his parents arrived at Joy’s house, they found the gate locked from the inside. Dennies knocked on the gate several times before the gateman came out, peering cautiously to see who was at the gate. Recognizing Dennies, he nodded in acknowledgment. “Dennies, good evening; the gateman greeted. “It’s been a while since you were last here.” Dennies gave him a polite smile. “Good evening. We’d like to see your boss. Is he home?” The gateman hesitated briefly. “Yes, but ... let me inform him first.” “Thank you; Dennies said as the gateman retreated inside. When the gateman reached Courage, Joy’s father, he bowed slightly and said, “Boss, Godwin-Denis’s father-is here with his family. They want to see you.” Courage’s face darkened immediately. “Godwin?” he repeated, his voice laced with irritation. “What could he possibly want now?” The gateman shrugged. “I’m not sure, sir, but they’re waiting at the gate.” Courage raised his hand to silence him. “Don’t let them in. Do you hear me? They’re not welcome here.” “Yes, sir.” the gateman replied, turning to leave. However, before he could take another step, Joy stepped into the room. ·Wait!” she called out, stopping the gateman in his tracks. “Father, why are you sending them away without even listening to what they have to say?” she asked, her voice calm but firm. Courage turned to his daughter, his expression hard. ·1 don’t need to hear anything from them, Joy. Their presence alone reminds me of betrayal.” “Father, please; Joy pleaded, her voice trembling. “At least let them come inside and explain themselves. You don’t have to forgive them right now, but hear them out. Isn’t that the fair thing to do?” “No; Courage said firmly. “I’ve made up my mind.” Joy fell to her knees, tears spilling down her cheeks. “Daddy, please,” she sobbed. “Don’t make a decision you might regret later. You know how close Dennies and I are. You know he saved my life when I was kidnapped. “You even promised

to support him through university, and you kept that promise. You know how much Dennies means to me.” Courage’s expression softened slightly, but he said nothing. “Daddy,” Joy continued, her voice breaking. “Dennies has proposed to me, and you assured him you would sponsor our wedding. Please don’t turn them away like this. Let them in. Let’s hear what they have to say.” Courage let out a long sigh, his resolve weakening. After a moment of silence, he turned to the gateman and said, “Go and open the gate for them.” “Yes, sir,” the gateman replied, rushing out to unlock the gate. When Dominion and his family entered the parlor, they hesitated, sensing the tension in the room. “Please, sit down; Joy said, motioning to the seats. Dennies and his parents sat quietly; their expressions somber. Godwin was the first to speak. “First of all, Courage,” he began, his voice heavy with emotion. “I’m truly sorry for everything I’ve done to you. Nobody knows tomorrow. Tomorrow is like a pregnancy-you can’t predict what it will bring.” He paused, gathering his thoughts before continuing. “Back then, the little power I had made me arrogant. I committed the biggest mistake of my life. I forgot our past

-how close we were, how we did everything together. “I let material things blind me. I betrayed my childhood friend and brother. Please, Courage, forgive me. I know I’ve sinned against you in many ways. Forgiveness won’t be easy, but I’m begging you to consider it.” Courage sat in silence; his face unreadable. Faith cleared her throat, her voice trembling as she spoke. ·Courage, I’m sorry for my part in all this-for breaking your heart, for leaving you to marry Godwin because you were struggling financially at the time. “I was selfish and short-sighted, and I deeply regret the pain I caused you. Please forgive me.” Courage’s lips tightened as he looked at them both. “Nobody knows tomorrow, indeed. The little power you had back then caused me so much pain,” he said, his voice filled with bitterness. He turned to Faith. “You made me lose the woman I loved, the one who brought me joy every time I saw her. I still don’t understand how you managed to leave me. Faith, I know you loved me back then, so how did you change overnight?” Faith lowered her gaze. unable to respond. Courage shook his head. “I’ve made up my mind to never associate with you again, Godwin. I cannot work with you in this life. You should leave now.” “Father, no!” Joy cried, standing up. “Please, forgive them. Everything happens for a reason. It could be that what they did to you was part of God’s plan to bless you.” She moved closer to her father, kneeling

beside him. “Remember, Dennies saved my life from the kidnappers. If you can’t forgive Godwin for what he did, then forgive him because of Dennies. “Dennies has proven himself worthy. God used him to save your daughter. Please, Father, accept their apology.” Courage sighed deeply, the weight of her words sinking in. ·1 will think about it.” he said finally, standing up and walking to his room. Joy turned to Dennies and his parents; her voice full of reassurance. “Don’t worry. My father will forgive you. I know him-he’s not a bad person. He has a

soft heart, and I’m confident he’ll come around.” “Thank you, my love,” Dennies replied. “Please help me convince your father to forgive my parents.” Joy smiled. “I will. Don’t worry. Bye for now.”

EPISODE 10

That night, Courage sat in his room, the weight of his thoughts pressing heavily on his mind. He replayed his friend Godwin’s betrayal and the pain it had caused him over the years. He muttered to himself, “What am I going to do now? If I remember what Godwin did to me in this life, I should not even consider forgiving him.” He shook his head, conflicted. ’But Dennies, his son ... Dennies saved my daughter Joy. And I promised him so many things. I even said I’d sponsor him to marry my daughter. Dennies is like family to me. Maybe-just maybe-I should consider Godwin, for Denis’s sake.” Courage exhaled deeply. “This is hard, but I’ll do it.” The next morning, Courage called Dennies to share his decision. When Dennies picked up, Courage said, “Dennies, good morning. I need you to inform your parents to come to my house this evening. We need to discuss something very important-your marriage to Joy.” Dennies was overjoyed. “Really, sir? Thank you so much! I will let them know immediately.” Back at Denis’s house, he excitedly shared the news with his parents. “Dad,

Mom! Courage called me this morning. He said you should come to his house this evening to discuss my marriage to Joy.” Godwin was stunned. “Are you serious, my son? Courage wants to meet us?” “Yes, Dad; Dennies replied with a smile. Godwin sighed deeply; his voice tinged with guilt. ·Courage is truly a good man. I wronged him so much in the past, yet he’s still willing to forgive me. I regret everything I did to him. If there’s any way I can repay his kindness, I’ll do it before I leave this world.” Faith, Denis’s mother, placed a comforting hand on her husband’s shoulder. “It’s not too late, Godwin. Let’s go to Courage’s house and thank him properly.” That evening, Denis’s parents dressed up and prepared to leave. Faith turned to her son. “Dennies, we’ll be back soon with good news. Stay home and wait for us.” ·1 will, Mom. I’m eager to hear everything; Dennies replied. When Godwin and Faith arrived at Courage’s house, Courage welcomed them warmly. “Please, come in and have a seat; he said. They sat down, slightly nervous. Courage cleared his throat and began, “Godwin, I’ve decided to forgive you.” Godwin’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You’ve forgiven me? Courage, after everything I did to you?” “Yes; Courage said firmly. “I’m forgiving you because of Dennies. Your son has been a blessing to my family. He saved my daughter Joy, and I promised him that I would sponsor their marriage. I want us to move forward and fix a date for the occasion.” Tears welled up in Godwin’s eyes. ·Courage, I never thought you’d

forgive me in this lifetime. Thank you. I don’t deserve your kindness, but I promise to honor your generosity for as long as I live. Thank you for everything you’ve done-not just for Dennies, but for my entire family.” Faith nodded in agreement. “Thank you, Courage. You’ve shown us what true forgiveness looks like.” The three of them

discussed the plans for the marriage and set dates for both the traditional marriage and the wedding. Afterward, Courage handed Godwin an envelope filled with money. “Use this to take care of some arrangements for the marriage; he said. Godwin and Faith were overwhelmed with gratitude. “Thank you so much, Courage. We will forever be grateful,” they said as they left his house. When Denis’s parents returned home, they eagerly shared the good news with him. Dennies was ecstatic. “This is the best day of my life! Thank you, Dad. Thank you, Mom.” Dennies wasted no time calling Joy. “Joy, you need to come over. I have the best news to share with you.” Joy laughed. “Alright, I’m on my way.” When Joy arrived, Dennies led her to his room, his face glowing with happiness. “Joy, I’m so excited! Your father has given us his blessing. We’re getting married” Joy beamed. ·1 told you my father isn’t a bad man. He just needed time to come around. I’m so happy, Dennies.” Dennies took her hands in his. “Today feels like our matrimonial day already. I can’t wait to spend my life with you.” Joy smiled shyly. “Me too. I’m so grateful for everything.” Three weeks later, the traditional marriage took place in grand style, followed by the wedding a week later. Both events were filled with joy, love, and celebration. Courage fulfilled his promise by giving Dennies R20 million to start a business and also gifted Godwin R 3 million to help him get back on his feet. Dennies and Joy began their married life full of hope and happiness. They later had

children and lived a peaceful, prosperous life together.
