Chapter 1

Adriana

The screams that came from outside made me pause in the middle of the hallway.

“Child, come on! Don’t stop. You need to Run” the nun grabbed my hand, pulling me towards her, but my legs seemed glued to the floor.

“I can’t, Sister Helen. I am scared,” I whimpered as tears rolled down my cheeks.

“Adriana, look at me. “Sister Helen said, placing her hands on my shoulders. “We don’t have much time. I know you are scared, but I also know how brave and strong you are. If anyone can do it, that’s you, Adriana. I never told you that, but I am proud to see the lady you’ve become,” Sister Helen whispered, pulling me into her arms. She kissed my forehead softly, and I closed my eyes, welcoming her touch. She has always been like a mother to me.

A menacing growl echoed through the halls, making the ground shake. Pieces of shattered windows scattered around us while Sister Helen covered me quickly with her body. “Are you hurt?” She inquired, and for the first time, I saw fear in her eyes. I shook my head, but she didn’t seem convinced.

“They are getting close,” she forced out when the sound of approaching footsteps became louder.

I could see Sister Helen looking around, chewing her lip nervously. “Go inside!” She pointed quickly at the supplies closet. “Not a word and stay hidden no matter what you heard,” she added, shoving me inside.

“What about you?” I asked with a shaking voice. Was she really going to leave me alone there?

“There isn’t enough space for the both of us, my dear.” Sister Helen stated calmly. “Always have faith in the Goddess’s plan. My time has come, Adriana, I can feel it. But you have to live.”

“But sister” I interrupted her just to have her place a finger on my lips.

“Have no fear, my dear. We will meet again in the afterlife, I promise,” Sister Helen smiled before closing the door. “Remember, not a word of who you are,” she muttered behind the closed door.

“Where is the girl?” a manly voice thundered outside the door and I found myself stepping back, terrified. I clenched my fists, forcing myself not to act like a damsel in distress, but there was something in that voice that sent chills down my spine.

“I don’t like to repeat myself. Where is the girl?” The voice sounded calm, but my instincts told me that he was anything but that. For a moment, I wondered who he was and why he wanted so badly to find me. I was just a wolf-less girl.

“She is dead. Didn’t survive her first shift,” Sister Helen replied calmly. I sighed hearing The lie father made everyone say when he brought me here.

“You are lying. I know she is alive and here somewhere. If you want an easy death, I suggest you stop wasting my time and take me to where you hid the girl.” The voice resonated through the walls.

“You may think what you want, but the girl is dead. As for my death, I am ready to meet the Goddess if you wish to kill me.” I found myself holding my breath as I waited for an answer.

“As you wish,” he said after a moment. A small screech left Sister Helen’s mouth and the next thing I heard was a loud bang. I closed my eyes, sending a quick prayer to the Goddess to keep her soul safe in the afterlife.

I took a sit on the cold marble floor, pulling my knees close to my chest.

“Father, where are you?” I wondered for the first time in my life. I grew up thinking that he was my knight in shining armor, that he would always be there to save me”.

“Kilian, did you find her?” A voice sounded in the distance. I lifted myself from the floor and tiptoed closer to the door so I could hear better.

“Not yet, but I have a hunch that she is hiding somewhere,” the man who talked to Sister Helen answered. ”This one was too cocky. I bet my life that the girl is hiding in plain sight. Did you check all the rooms?” he inquired after a moment.

“Yes. No one is talking. All the women say that the girl we are looking for is dead. How are we supposed to know which one is she?” The man who I don’t know the name questioned, annoyed.

“Just gather all of them in the main area. If she is here and alive, she would want to do something to stop us from killing them… Killian paused and I gulped down the lump formed in my throat.

“Fuck, Killian, you want us to kill all the nuns?” The second man answered, shocked.

“Yes, Daniel. Do you think Alpha King is going to spare us when we go back without her?” Killian inquired while I stepped back.

Alpha King wanted me? Why?
