Chapter 1

After my only sister committed suicide,

I suffered a nervous breakdown from guilt and remorse.

After being admitted to a psychiatric hospital,

I fell in love with my attending physician who had always been by my side.

I never imagined that he would harm my sister and frame me for it just because of a word from his moonlight.

Now he wants to use my heart

to save his moonlight.

I want to take revenge on him, but I’m already dead.

I watch his brother stand up for me,

only to be slandered by him, accusing me of seducing his brother.

Loving someone like him is the biggest stain on my life.

As I watch him go mad after learning of my death,

I turn and walk away, ignoring his cries of surprise.

In my next life, I don’t want him to bother me.

After being admitted to the psychiatric hospital, I fell in love with the attending doctor.

When I agreed to marry him after being discharged, I learned that it was actually him who had caused my breakdown.

My younger sister, who had been my only family, committed suicide, leaving behind a suicide note.

It was then that I realized just how much she resented me.

I isolated myself at home, cutting off all contact with the outside world, spiraling deeper into guilt day by day.

It was the psychologist who stayed by my side, day in and day out, guarding me.

He proposed to me, and I looked into his deep, affectionate eyes and nodded my agreement.

The day I returned from the psychiatric hospital, I overheard him on the phone with his friend, Ted.

“Do you regret what happened with your sister-in-law’s sister?”

“I don’t regret it...”

...

The conversation continued.

“Your sister-in-law keeps doubting herself because of that suicide note. If she knew it was fake, that her sister’s death had another reason...”

“Shut up, she will never know the truth of what happened!”

“Don’t you remember what happened back then? Your sister-in-law’s sister begged you for help, and you turned a blind eye, which caused that tragedy!”

“Alice is the most important person in my life. Don’t talk about faking evidence, I would even kill for her.”

“If your sister-in-law finds out, she won’t be able to accept it!”

“She won’t. Grace loves me deeply, I am her last emotional support!”

“Besides, I’m about to marry her. I’ve already made up for everything.”

Max spoke with a tone of charity, as if me marrying him was a gift he was giving me.

The conversation continued, but I couldn’t hear any more. My mind went blank.

I tightly covered my mouth, trying not to cry out loud.

My blood froze, my body uncontrollably trembling.

A pain that was impossible to resist engulfed me, leaving me unable to bear it.

When I heard movement inside, I quickly turned and ran.

I ran all the way home, as though every ounce of strength had been drained from me.

I collapsed onto the ground, staring blankly at the distant desk.

I thought Max was my salvation, but I never expected him to be the mastermind who pushed me into the abyss.

I don’t know how much time passed, but I felt cold all over when the door was suddenly pushed open.

The familiar scent enveloped me, and I was wrapped up in it.

Max lifted me off the floor and placed me on the sofa.

His eyes were full of concern. “Grace, are you thinking about the past again?”

“Don’t overthink it. Your sister was too young to understand your good intentions back then...”

“It’s not your fault. It has nothing to do with you!”

His gentle voice comforted me as it always did.

If I hadn’t overheard the truth, I would have been deceived by his acting skills for the rest of my life.

I raised my head, stared at him for a long time, and finally spoke softly.

“The person who was wrong wasn’t me!”

“My sister was a strong person, and our relationship was very good. I don’t believe she wrote that letter!”

“I’ll have that letter authenticated. I believe the police will give me justice. Don’t you think so?”

As soon as I said that, Max panicked.

He quickly responded, “No!”

Perhaps realizing that his attitude was too firm, he explained.

“It’s been so many years, the truth from back then can’t be found!”

“Bringing this to light means you will have to face everyone’s scrutiny again.”

“I’m afraid you won’t be able to handle it. I don’t want you to go through that kind of situation again. Please, agree to just let it be this way.”

I looked at him with red eyes, feeling like I had fallen into an ice pit.

Max, I’m giving you one last chance, but you didn’t cherish it!
