An Alien Invitation
I woke up in my bedroom hearing a faint rattling noise from outside of the dark window. I thought it was one of my neighbors doing some chore that they should have done earlier today.
I walked towards the window to see a figure, it looked like a plane but I couldn’t truly figure out what it was. I squinted a bit harder than I should have and noticed something strange. That wasn’t a plane. It was something else. And it was coming straight to my house.
I quickly ran to my mom’s room and woke her up. “What’s wrong, sweetheart?” Her voice was extremely groggy from her slumber.
“I saw something weird,” I told her anxiously, “and it looks like it’s coming towards our house.”
Mom quickly got out from her bed as she looked through all the windows in the house. She eventually came into my room and stared out the window.
“What on earth…,” she said. Then she grabbed my hand. “Claire, we need to go to the laundry room.”
“Don’t,” I heard a voice say.
Mom looked out of the window once again. “You go by yourself.” Then she muttered to herself, "Think I know who this is."
“No, Mom-,” I started to say then looked at her, completely puzzled. "Wait, what do you mean you know-?"
“Go,” she interrupted.
I did as I was told and went to the laundry room and contemplated for a moment about going inside and actually following my mom’s instructions. Instead, I opened and closed the door as if I was going inside the room and stealthily walked towards the front door.
Mom was outside, talking to someone (or something). This person had blue skin and dark blue hair in a single braid. She was pretty tall, probably about six feet and five inches. She was standing in front of something that looked like private jet of steel but without the wings.
“Claire,” the lady said in excitement under the street light, highlighting her violet eyes. “It’s so amazing to meet you.”
Who is this and how does she know my name? I thought to myself.
Mom turned around sharply in my direction and said, “I told you to stay inside.”
“No,” the blue lady said, “she needs to hear this.”
Mom sighed and said, “Come here, Claire.”
I walked nervously towards them and stood right next to Mom.
“I know that you’re scared right now,” the blue lady said, “because you usually don’t see people like me.”
Guilt and fear (I know, a weird combination) immediately washed over myself as I softly said, “I’m sorry.”
“You’re okay, Starlight,” she said then looked toward my mom.
“Mom…,” I said looking next to her.
Mom turned me around to face her. “Sweetheart, this lady here is your great-grandfather’s sister.”
I looked over to the blue lady. She looked like she just turned twenty last week. How was that even possible? Also, I have extremely curly black hair and chocolate brown skin. There was no way we were related.
“On my dad’s side?” I asked. I’ve met all of my mom’s side but not any of my dad’s side.
“Yes,” Mom said then turned to the lady, “Volindiza, this was the wrong time. You were supposed to come when I was ready to tell her.”
“Wait,” I started to say towards Volindiza, “who exactly are you?”
She walked up to me and touched my arm, as if I were made of glass. I noticed that her outfit was a shiny, silver dress that was literally glowing and flat shoes that were also glowing, but with the color white. “Starlight, you have a lot to learn.” She must have saw my confused face because she responded by saying, “I am a princess in my planet’s kingdom and you are the heir to rule the kingdom.”
“So, I’m an alien princess?” I asked.
She nodded.
“Was my dad an alien?”
“He was a quarter Colisidian, and that makes you an eighth,” Volindiza responded.
I scrunch my eyebrows. “A Colisi…?” I’ve never heard of that word before. Oh, no. That probably means that I have to learn a whole new language, and it’s not even from Earth.
“Colisidian, Starlight,” Volindiza said patiently. “It’s okay, I can teach you about your heritage right-”
“No,” Mom said firmly, “She can learn this tomorrow afternoon.”
I turned to her. “Why are you just now telling me about this?”
“Because I needed you to live a normal life as akid from Earth,” she said.
That was the weirdest thing that I ever heard my mom say to me. “What do you mean ‘a kid from Earth’?”
Volindiza spoke this time. “Our royalty in Colisidia is really strict. We start our duties at six Earth years old. And the children who are not of royal descent come up with war strategies at that same age.” Her violet eyes sympathetically turned to Mom. “I agree with your mother.”
What was even happening? I initially thought that I was going to abducted by aliens but it turns out that I’m actually an alien, this alien women is my great-grandpa’s sister on my dad’s side that I’ve never met, and Mom knew about this for sixteen years. Thank goodness this was happening in the summer time because I don’t know how I would have to balance this new information while also dealing with homework when I got back to school.
“I know this is very weird for you,” Mom said as she hugged me, “but it will be okay.”
I nodded and hugged her back. “This is extremely weird.”
“We’re also going to have to go to Colisidia tomorrow morning, too,” she firmly said.
I released from her hug and looked at her and Volindiza. “I just learned that I was an alien princess at midnight tonight and now I have to get ready to leave for a whole other planet that I’ve never heard of tomorrow,” I said a bit too fast. “When were you going to tell me?”
“When you were ready, but it seems like Volindiza’s brother wants to see you now,” Mom said as she glanced over to my great-grandpa’s sister. Mom’s eyes were tired and irritable. “Although I told him that I wasn’t ready to tell you yet.”
“I tried to convince him of your concerns, but Voldolon said he wanted to see both of you as soon as possible,” Volindiza responded. She looked as if she wanted to apologize but she hesitated.
“Claire,” Mom started to say, “Get your clothes ready for tomorrow.”
As I nodded to her and turned back towards the house, Volindiza said, “We have everything that you and Claire needs at Colisidia, that includes human necessities such as food and hygiene with clothes.”
“Alright,” Mom replied, crossing her arms as she turned back to me, “Get your rest, sweetheart. We need to be prepared for tomorrow morning.”
She then gave me a hug and said, “I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
As I finally walked back toward the house, Volindiza held out her hand towards mine. We shook each others hand and she said, “I can’t believe that I got to meet you, Claire! I will see you tomorrow.”
When I arrived to my room, I stumbled in the dark to find my bed. I was still in complete shock about me being someone of royal blood that’s not even from this planet. As I got in my covers and drifted to sleep, I convinced myself in my slumber that what happened that night was all just a dream.
