Chapter 1
"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" 1 Peter 5:8, KJV.
Soberness is needed, the ability to stay away and abstain from things that are unnecessary and sinful.
The practice of sin, the habit of sin, is prohibited in Christianity.
Self-control is also needed, it is a fruit of the Spirit as well.
Furthermore, watchfulness is needed! (Matthew 24:42, 25:13) We do not know the hour or the day that our Lord will come.
It is necessary, and commanded, for us to watch with vigilance, and to be on the lookout for danger.
God is our source of guidance, we need not lean onto anyone else's understanding (not even our own), Proverbs 3:5. But to follow the Spirit's guidance, that is necessary.
We shouldn't be as the ones sleep; spiritually so, it is important for us to not live lives of following after any other god. There are no other gods, and all the other ones people hold as gods are false gods.
Our enemy is our opponent. As Christians, we aren't on his side. The enemy consists of a certain amount of evil agents, and we need to make sure that we don't entertain them nor heed their demands, nor give into any of their temptations.
Our adversary (enemy) is the one who would like to accuse us, coming not but to steal, kill, and destroy...
Our enemy, the devil, is full of slander. Our enemy hates us. In them, there is no love. But thankfully, God and his side involves holy, heavenly, love that we are to abide in.
What the enemy is occupied with is to walk around, and look for, and strive, and desire to find someone to DEVOUR, swallow up, and consume and destroy.
However, God is not so. God looks to help us.
The everlasting fire was prepared for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41).
Jesus has come so that we may have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). God is love (1 John 4:8).
