Chapter 1
"Bravo, sis." Jinx said before knocking her sister out.
"Oh, the little man's following me?" Jinx smacked the back of his head with her pistol.
"Dear friend across the river, My hands are cold and bare. Dear friend across the river, I'll take what you can spare."
Jinx sang, her voice ranging from soft to deranged.
"I ask of you a penny, My fortune it will be."
"Powder?" Vi called out. She noticed she was tied to a chair. She tried to remove her handsfrom the ropes, but they were tied tight.
"I ask you without envy, We raise the mighty towers, Our homes are built of stone..."
"Power, what's all this about?"
"Really though I buried this place, sis. But I should've known better."
"Powder?" Vi called out again, looking for her in the darkness.
"Nothing ever stays dead."
"Are we alone?"
"Look to your right." A bright light switched on, blinding Vi a bit. When her eyes adjusted to the light she realised who it was. "Ekko?"
He turned his head to the direction of her voice. Не seemed to just gain consciousness, too.
"Vi?" He squinted. He tried to get up but he was tied up too.
"Wanna know a secret? Silco thinks he made Jinx with all his rants and his hard-won lessons."
"Excise your doubts, Jinx."
"Be what they fear, Jinx." She said in a mocking tone.
"Lik everything was the same as when Vander left him. But he... didn't make Jinx."
"You did.'
Vi felt like her heart was shattered into a million pieces.
"I'm sorry, Powder." Her voice cracked a bit. "I never meant to leave you."
"You never left."
"I always hear you. Shadows in the streets, prickles on the back of my neck.Your voice. Picking me up when all the colours were black."
"Pushing me."
Ekko looked around, trying to pinpoint the location of Jinx's voice. He notices some firecrackers at the side, they were violet.
"You're the reason I'm still alive. I spent so many nights in that shitty prison. On the freezing floor, hungry, bloody, counting the hours."
"The only thing..." she blinked back her tears."The only thing that kept me going was the thought of getting back to you.' "
"Are we still sisters?"
"Nothing is ever going to change that."
Jinx emerged from the shadows.
"I always knew you'd come back."
"What's going on?
Jinx turned Vi's chair around and lit candles across a table. Silco was at the other end. His mouth sealed.
"He took everything from us. Right here, he stabbed Vander in the back. Just like he planned to do with me."
Jinx went back to bring Ekko to the table, his chair scraping loudly across the floor.
"Jinx -"
"Shut up."
She turned back to Vi. "All the time saying you abandoned me when he knew the truth."
"Liar"
"We're missing someone,"
Ekko looked around the table, he saw the large wooden doll of Milo and the small stuffed version of Clagger. The bunny, Vander's smoke pipe, His metal fists, and a picture of the powder, vi and vander. Vi also noticed them and shared a look with Ekko before she looked back to Silco, who was staring back at her and mumbling.
Jinx came back with Vi's gauntlets holding a covered tray. She blew cold air off it and dropped it on the table, releasing the gauntlets too.
"I paid the little Piltie a visit this morning."
Vi's heart rate increased, and she gasped. "W-what did you do?"
"I made her a snack,"
"...Huh?" Now she was breathing like crazy "No!" She closed her eyes and turned her head.
"Sheesh. I'm not that crazy."
Vi looked only to see a cupcake with the gemstone on top of it.
Jinx went into the shadows and came back wheeling Caitlyn to the table, her mouth shut tight.
"Powder! Leave her out of this."
Jinx looked at Silco and then chuckled. "Now..." she went to Vi's chair. "Where should I sit?"
Vi looked at Powders seat. "That's your choice, really. And the little man over there would really like that, hmm?
She was mocking him. Jinx turned her head to look at him. He glared at her.
Then she looked at Jinx's seat.
She put her pistol in Vi's hands.
"Make her go away, please." She moved her face closer to Vi's staring at her.
"Send her on her way and -" Caitlyn probably said something, but it was muffled anyway.
"And you can have Powder back."
"I can't," Vi said and turned her head away from Jinx.
She took the pistol from Vi's hands and pointed it at Caitlyn's head.
"No! Powder... Listen. We... we can just go, we'll leave and never come back."
"Where would we go?"
Claggor said something to Jinx. "No, no, no. She's not saying that" Jinx pointed her gun at him.
Ekko looked at her, confused. She was talking to a doll?
"It's true. We'll put this behind us. You'll never have to see him ever again, Powder."
Silco started arguing. If we could hear him.
Jinx turned to him. "What do you have to say about that?" She walked to him and removed the mask.
"Her name is Jinx!"
"She's lying. You'll be with her a day before she realises you aren't that girl anymore and turns her back on you."
"You aren't lying. You wouldn't lie to me, not again." Jinx was starting to crack.
"I'm not lying. I'm on your side, I promise." Vi pleaded with her.
Milo said something to her, which made her angry, and she shot him. The glass cup near him shattered.
"Shut up! We're talking!"
"The topsiders offered me everything."
"Independence, a seat at the table. All in return for you."
"They can all burn."
"Everyone betrays us, Jinx. Vander. Her."
"They will never understand."
"It's only us."
"Are you really going to believe him?" Ekko finally spoke up.
"You're my daughter."
"I'll never forsake you."
Ekko looked around akwardly. He felt like a third wheel. He had managed to start loosing the rope around his hands.
"Drop the gun!" Caitlyn said. She had cut her ropes off with a glass shard.
"No, please," Vi pleaded to Jinx.
"Jinx- Powder, don't do this." Ekko added.
She scoffed, and a voice spoke in her head. "It's time to leave them." She raised the gun up.
"No! Stop!" Caitlyn fired Jinx's machine gun at her feet.
"Drop the gun." She repeated. Jinx raised her hands up.
"Wait! She's my sister."
"Vi, she's too far gone."
Jinx snickered and dropped the gun on the table, then raised her hands up again.
"No!"
Jinx pretended to be scared and then smirked before she snatched the machine gun and smacked Caitlyn in the face with it.
"You see, now finish it."
"Damn it! Powder, wake up!"
"Don't listen to him! Ekko yelled.
"Remember who you are! I know you remember!"
"Picture Milo! Clagger!"
"Stop." Silco said.
"You're not helping Vi!" Ekko looked at her, panicked. The words seem to hurt her more that actually help.
"Vander!"
"Shut up! Don't listen to her!"
"I kind of agree with him right now!"
"Dad!"
"Mom!"
"Jinx isn't perfect, Powder isn't perfect, that's what makes you, you!" Ekko yelled. He got rid of the ropes on his hands and frantically started removing the one that tied his body to the chair.
Jinx was having a mental battle.
"Me!"
Silco picked up the gun from the table, aiming it at Vi. Ekko scrambled from his seat and snatched it from his hands.
"No!"
Jinx yelled. She started firing the machine gun, Ekko went down on the ground, a bullet grazing his shoulder in the process.
She was breathing hard, then her eyes went to Silco.
She shot him.
