Chapter 1

1- Hey

Clarissa’s POV

Hey, my name is Clarissa, and I’m a dragon from the Mystical Moon Pack. My parents, Thelma and Jarvis, have lived in this pack since before I was born.

I’m almost 19 years old and I’m in love with my mate, who happens to be a werewolf/ human hybrid. I have been holding this detail from my parents because we royal dragons have certain expectations set upon us, such as (the very messed up one in my situation) we are to marry a dragon because it’s believed that it would make strong offspring and keep the royal bloodline intact. Does it matter if the dragon doesn’t want that? What if I don’t want any kids? What if I just want to live in the now, and whatever the future brings me, I’ll tackle it when it gets here? Christian thinks that my parents already know about him, so he asked if he could join us for dinner tonight. With Christian wanting to come to dinner tonight, I’m forced to have this conversation with my parents today, which I’m dreading.

The things we do for love, I think, while rolling my eyes.

With a sense of heaviness, nervousness, and dread I walk towards the kitchen, damn this feels as if I weight the world on my shoulders. Ugh! I think while passing my hands slowly down my face.

I can’t wait for this day to be done with.

Taking a deep breath, then releasing it slowly, I enter the kitchen. Here goes the moment of truth. Mom and Dad are sitting at the table, having some coffee and toast, which is usually their go-to breakfast.

“Hey, my loving parents, how are you doing this morning?”

They both give each other a look and snicker, then say in unison: “Hi princess, why are you buttering us up with your cheerful greeting this morning?”

Nothing gets passes them.

I roll my eyes and plop down on the seat across from them (I know it’s a childish gesture, but I don’t care).

“I sort of...may have... held back some information from you guys.”

They both look at me and place their toast and cups down, then say in unison: “Okay, what is it?”

It’s freaky how they speak together like that. How in the world do they know what each other is going to say?

I let out a small sigh: “I found my mate.”

Dad grumbles something, but I can’t tell what he said, while Mom beams with joy.

“Why are you sighing? That’s great news, who’s the lucky dragon?” Asks mom.

“That’s the thing, he’s not a dragon, but I’m in love with him.”

They both look at me as if I have two heads.

“How are you in love with him if you only just found your mate? Just because you are mates doesn’t mean that you instantly fall in love with him,” Dad states in an uncertain tone.

I giggle nervously.

“Uh-oh...what else is there?” asks Mom.

“Well...you see, the thing is.....Christian and I have been together for almost a year now. he thinks that you guys know about him, and he’s expecting to come over for dinner tonight.”

Mom put a hand on her forehead while Dad asked: “Anything else you failed to share with us?”

“He wasn’t born royal, and he’s a hybrid, half-werewolf/ half-human, but he’s now ranked as a royal pack member. You already know him because the great beta adopted him. I didn’t tell any of you about him because he isn’t a dragon, and I know that I’m expected to marry a dragon because of the royal bloodline expectation, but it’s not fair to request that of me. I want to live my life the way I want and not be bound by others’ views of what they think I should be doing or how I should be living, and I-”

Dad cuts me off by raising his hand: “Clarissa, I want to make something clear to you, your happiness is all that matters to us. We don’t care if he’s a werewolf hybrid, we just care that you are truly happy.”

“Thank-”

“I am not done Clarissa. From what I’ve seen and heard, Christian is a good lad, but I will require that he still prove that he is worthy of my daughter. I will not let that custom go. I don’t know if others will frown upon Christian being your mate, but that is of no importance. You are my child, and I can change the rules if I choose to. Why do you think our clan is living here?... Do you think that we are not open-minded enough to change things up?... We certainly are not that old school to be so dense.”

“Thank you, Dad...I won’t lie...I thought that you would not be willing to see past the expectations, but I’m glad that you are.”

Mom claps: “Okay, now that that’s taken care of, what time is Christian coming over? Let’s figure out tonight’s menu.”
