Chapter One
Kira Crowley
I wake up feeling like absolute dog shit. The radio is playing some Billie Eilish song, but I can’t seem to catch any of the words she sings -or whispers, in her case-. I don’t remember anything from last night, but I do remember falling asleep while listening to the radio. I look next to me and pick up my phone, 6 missed calls from my sister. Why did she call me multiple times?
It was probably just a mistake. I look at the time, and I groan, remembering I have to go to school in about an hour. I don’t like school; I don’t think anyone likes school.
I stand up and walk downstairs, and I see my mom making pancakes. I greet her with a soft ‘morning’. I don’t know if I imagined it, 'cause she doesn’t respond.
I sit down at the table I notice my sister isn’t downstairs, weird. She normally is by now, “Where’s Jade?”
I ask my mom, “I haven’t seen her, maybe she’s still up in her room?” She answers, “No, she’s normally up by now.” I say, “I’ll go and check up on her.”
“Okay,” my mom says as I walk up the stairs. “Remind her that she has a test today,” my mom yells after me. “Okay!”
Our house is kind of small, so my sisters' and my room are basically next to each other. I get to her room, and I knock.
No answer, knock again, no answer. “Jade?” I ask,” Are you up yet? You have to drive me to school, remember.” I knock. No response again.
I open the door, “dude, I swear if you are still sleeping ill kill you,” I stumble in, the lights are on, weird. “Jade?”
She’s not in her bed, weird again. “Are you trying to jumpscare me again?” I look around, she must have already left for school.
I turn off the lights. Ugh, fine, I’ll just take the bus.
When I arrive at the bus station, it’s weirdly quiet for a Monday morning, since the bus isn’t here yet, I sit down. I look at my phone to see if my sister texted me back yet. She has not.
I hear the bus coming, so I stand up and wait for the doors to open, and out of the corner of my eye, I see someone running. 1, 2, 3, BAM, she slams into me, and I fall to the ground. “What the fuck!” I say, shocked.
“Shit! I'm so so so sorry,” the girl replies. She grabs my arm and pulls me up. I look at the girl who just violently pushed me to the ground. I expect to see a lady mid-30s who is experiencing an midlifecrisis, but no, I see a girl around my age wearing the same school uniform as me, but damn, she’s beautiful.
I feel my cheeks warm up. “OH shit, hi, wait, no, don't apologise please,” I say while picking up my bag off the ground. “No, I should apologise,” the girl says. “I’m Kira,” I say. “I’m Charlotte, nice to meet you,” says the apparently named Charlotte. “Nice to meet you too. So, you go to Unity?” I point to her uniform, “Yeah Im new there.” Charlotte says, “Coolcoolcoolcoolcoolcoolcool.” I say,
“Hey, you two getting on?” The bus driver says, while he lights a cigarette, “Yeah.” Charlotte says while she grabs my arm and pulls me into the bus.
When we sit down, I play some music on my earphones. She taps my arm, “whatcha listening to?”
“Girl in Red,” I reply, “nice, I love Girl in Red, I listen to her all the time,” and like that, I spend the whole bus ride talking about music, with a girl, a cute girl, no, a gorgeous fucking angel sent straight -or gay in my case- from heaven.
