Chapter 1: The Strange NOTE

Riverdale High wasn't usually a place for surprises. That's what I thought—until the day I found the note.

It was a Thursday morning, and the air in the library smelled faintly of old books and dust. I had claimed my usual corner by the big window, where the sunlight spilled across the desk in a perfect rectangle. My tablet was open, my keyboard clicking softly as I typed the first draft of a story I'd been dreaming about for weeks.

I liked quiet mornings like this. The kind where the only sounds were flipping pages and the occasional cough from the librarian, Mrs. Faye, who was notoriously strict about noise.

Then it happened.

A folded piece of paper slid silently onto my desk. I looked up, startled. The library was almost empty, save for a few students scattered across the room, noses buried in textbooks. No one was close enough to have tossed the note onto my desk without being seen.

I hesitated for a moment. My heart thumped in my chest. Slowly, I unfolded it. The handwriting was messy, almost frantic:

"The truth hides where the sunlight never reaches. Trust no one."

My pulse quickened. What was this? A prank? Or... something more?

I glanced around. Everyone seemed normal—students scribbling in notebooks, typing away, whispering softly. Yet a cold shiver ran down my spine. Something about the note felt... serious. Urgent.

"Hey, Daniella, you okay?" Sam's voice made me jump. My best friend leaned over, eyebrows raised.

"I... I don't know," I admitted, tucking the note into my notebook. "This wasn't here before. Something's... wrong."

Sam frowned. "You're imagining things. It's just a stupid note. Someone's trying to freak you out."

I wanted to agree, but I couldn't. There was a weight to the words, a hidden meaning I couldn't shake. My eyes flicked back to the rows of shelves. Something seemed... different. Shadows between the bookshelves looked longer than they should be, as if someone—or something—gwas watching.

I tried to focus on my story, tapping keys and forcing my mind back into fiction, but the words on my tablet blurred. The message on that scrap of paper refused to leave my thoughts.

By the time the bell rang, signaling the start of first-period classes, I had tucked the note into the back of my notebook and stuffed it into my bag. But I couldn't stop thinking about it. Who would leave something like that for me? And why?

In the hallway, students were laughing and chatting as usual. Everyone seemed so ordinary. But I knew better.

Because Riverdale High had secrets. I just didn't know how deep they ran... yet.

Later that evening, I sat at my desk at home, tablet open, notebook beside me. I kept staring at the page, unable to write. The note's words repeated in my head: "Trust no one."

I pulled out a fresh page in my notebook and copied them down. Something about writing them made me feel... sharper. More aware. Like I had accepted a challenge I didn't fully understand yet.

And deep down, I knew one thing for certain: life at Riverdale High would never be ordinary again.
