The Empty Room

The door to Room 17 stood open.

Zack didn’t remember leaving it that way.

For a long moment, he simply stood in the hallway, staring at the dark space beyond the doorway. The corridor behind him felt normal—alive in its own quiet way—but everything beyond that door felt… separate.

Detached.

Like stepping into a place that didn’t belong to the building.

It had been three days since Z disappeared.

Three days since the darkness in that room had swallowed him whole without a sound, without a trace, without even disturbing the air.

And now—

The door was open.

Zack stepped forward slowly.

Each step felt heavier than the last, as though the closer he got, the more resistance the air pushed back with. His hand hovered near the doorframe before finally touching it.

Cold.

Not just physically cold.

Empty.

Like touching something that didn’t exist the way it should.

He stepped inside.

The room looked the same.

Too clean.

Too untouched.

The bed was perfectly placed. The table stood where it always had. The wardrobe was closed. Even the faint smell of wood and dust remained exactly as before.

No struggle.

No sign of Z.

Nothing.

Zack’s chest tightened.

It didn’t make sense.

Something had taken him.

He had seen it.

Felt it.

He remembered the darkness moving, wrapping around Z, pulling him into something that shouldn’t have been there.

And yet—

The room erased it.

Zack walked toward the corner.

That corner.

The place where the shadow had formed.

Now it looked normal.

Flat.

Still.

But as he stared at it, a strange feeling crept into his chest.

Like being watched.

He stepped closer.

“Z?” he whispered.

No response.

Of course not.

But something inside him refused to accept that.

Z wasn’t gone.

He couldn’t be.

Not like that.

Zack reached out and pressed his hand against the wall.

Cold.

Solid.

Real.

But when he pushed harder—

For a fraction of a second—

He felt something move beneath it.

Zack jerked his hand back.

His breath quickened.

“That’s not possible…”

He stepped away.

The wall looked normal again.

Still.

Silent.

Then—

Knock.

Zack froze.

The sound came again.

Knock.

Knock.

Slow.

Deliberate.

From inside the wall.

Zack’s heart slammed against his chest.

He stepped closer again, this time slower.

“Z?” he whispered.

Silence.

Then—

A faint scratch.

Right beneath where he had placed his hand earlier.

Zack stumbled backward.

The room fell silent again.

But the silence was different now.

Heavier.

Occupied.

Zack stood there for a long time.

Thinking.

Breathing.

Realizing something he didn’t want to believe.

Z wasn’t gone.

He was still inside Room 17.

Somewhere.

And if that was true—

Then Zack had only one choice.

He had to go back.

Kaz Z2: Completely different, easy to read, interesting. Enjoying the story, hoping the ending is good or if still going that it's published regularly as I think I'm near the end.
