Prologue
There are a couple of things in life that will jar you to a halt, make you re-evaluate your priorities in life, and aid you in unleashing the hidden dreams and ambitions locked away in that secret compartment in your mind.
Not everyone gets a second chance to do the things they want or dream of. Not everyone will take a chance on love if it happens unexpectedly, especially in a place as colourful as India.
But in India, one could never discount the surprises in store for single, independent women, who charted their lives as in a book. That is, until they realise that life is never meant to be perfectly mapped out, or accept the times when it takes you away from your desires.
Falling in love with a North Indian is the story of a Malaysian girl who meets the man of her dreams in India. She always thought of Indian men as conservative, and being a modern girl who valued her freedom, she was sure she would never make a good wife for one. She is exuberant and high-spirited, funny, witty, and in the old-fashioned way, he fascinates!
‘Everyone has a story to tell, an important one that has taught them some of life’s lessons at some point in their lives. No one story is too small or inconsequential. The experience often teaches one the basic tenets of life: courage, love, kindness, compassion, understanding, and wishfulness.’
QUOTE from the story - "Maybe Mr Peterson, who knows! I responded a little cheekily," knowing in my heart that it would take a very special Indian to make me want to marry him.
I could never imagine myself married to an Indian. I have always known them to have a different outlook on life, different expectations of the women in their lives, and, quite honestly, I wasn’t sure if I would make one a good wife. I am career-minded and independent. And, I wasn’t sure if I could handle two incredibly important roles at the same time!
Anjali, the protagonist, falls in love with Aarav. An internal conflict ensues as she balances her independence and career-minded nature with the unexpected pull of a relationship that challenges her preconceived notions.
(A humorous and beautiful love story - this short story is well worth the read)
