ChaIn the polished offices of the Global Harmony Adoption Agency, the air smelled of fair-trade coffee and moral certainty. Elena and Jordan, a progressive couple of indeterminate gender presentation, sat across from the caseworker with linked hands and shining eyes.
“We don’t want children from here,” Elena said firmly. “Our own country breeds irresponsibly. Families have litters like dogs. One child per home is ethical. The planet is burning.”
The caseworker nodded with practiced reverence. “We completely agree. Overpopulation is the crisis. You’re not just adopting—you’re reducing the global carbon footprint. One less birth here, one rescued soul from the Global South. It’s beautiful.”
Jordan adjusted their pronoun pin. “We’ve tried everything. Biology failed us. Transitioning made it impossible. But that discrimination ends now. Love is love, and borders are violence.”
