The flowers on your dresser remind you
Of who you used to be
Sometime ago.
The peonies are the color of first kisses,
the taste of bubblegum and cherry soda
as your lips touch his.
The roses in the vase bring you back
To that February day.
They are the same shade of pale silk pink
As that blouse you wore to dinner,
The same shade as the jukebox
in the corner of the small diner
That he brought you to.
The carnations smell like the perfume
That you wore that day at school.
That same day that the boy let you wear
his letterman jacket,
the one that had his name on it.
The daisies remind you
of planting a garden with your mother.
The early summer air fresh and clean.
Your mother smiles as
you plant another flower next to hers.
The lilies in the vase bring back memories
of that summer.
The neighborhood water balloon fights,
the feeling of sunshine on your skin,
the taste of pink lemonade,
and popsicles melting by the pool,
dripping onto you bikini.
The petal on the floor makes you think of
That last leaf,
falling to the ground in the fall.
It looks like the first snowflake
that marks the beginning of winter.
The sledding
and snow boots that keep you warm.
The flowers in the vase remind you
Of who you are now,
how beautiful memories can be.
Even though you thought that nothing could
Come close enough to
the feelings you had then,
You still feel the same.
