Part One, Chapter One
The forest was silent with a growing anticipation in the cold air. The moon shone her light over the land in an attempt to show the creatures of the night, but despite her best efforts her light barely hit the predeators that stalked their oblivious prey. Bushes shook and leaves rustled, still the sounds were dismissed as the wind that blew chills up their spines. The Banderon Pack were all in their homes, huddled together to fight off the cold night. Their faithful guards that patrolled the border of their land clutched their torches close in hopes that the flames would provide some relief to their numb fingers. As the night grew deeper the desire to sleep grew stronger for the four watchmen, and though the Moon did her best to shine even brighter, one by one they nodded off at their post, leaving their pack unprotected from those predators that hid from the moonlight. As the last Epsilon closed his eyes, the rustling grew closer.
Hushed pants flew in the wind, paw prints were stamped into the dirt, tuffs of fur blinked out of the grass' natural gaps. A howl echoed around the forest, one that woke the Alpha of the Banderon Pack, but it was already too late, they had crossed the border.
The Alpha, Suho, stumbled out of his home, a coat around him just in time to see the carnoage that was occuring to his beloved pack. Wolves were running about, breaking buildings, knocking over torches, completely wrecking the place. Members of his pack cried out for help, some were running with fear painted over their faces, it was utter chaos.
"Irene, get up quickly!" Suho called to his wife. She came rushing out to see what made her husband sound so worried, still a mess with no allowance to make herself presentable beforehand. She gasped at the sight that greated her out her front door, tears already filling her eyes.
"Oh no, the pack." Suho wanted to comfort her, but there was no time to do so, he had to take control of what was happening.
"Round up whoever you can, take them up the mountain. I will send for you when it is safe," he commanded. She nodded, her eyes now hardening with seriousness. Suho placed a kiss on her forhead before she re-entered the house to the back door. Suho looked back out at the destruction that was almost complete. He could hear the calls for people to leave the area, the number of people around started to dwindle.
"Alpha!" Suho looked to his left, another man dressed in his pajamas and a coat approached him quickly.
"Kai, what's going on here?"
"It's the Gildebarn Pack, they snuck in and attacked us."
"Where are the Epsilons?"
"I don't know, their not responding."
"Alright, round up the Zetas and Upsilons, tell them to get ready to defend the pack. What's left of it anyway." Kai nodded and left at quick speed. Suho looked out at the wolves that were pouncing about his territory. The Gildebarn Pack, he should have guessed as much. They were the only ones in the area that would stoop so low as to attack a peaceful pack whilst they rested. Suddenly a large silver wolf emerged from the flames of a knocked over torch. His eyes reflected their own raging fire that burned inside his soul. Suho knew this wolf, the Alpha of the Gildebarn Pack. Suho looked the wolf dead in the eye, a clear challenge of his authority. A snarl instinctually formed on Suho's face as he stared down his rival.
"Namjoon!" The silver wolf seemed to smirk back at Suho triumphantly. Suho could only harden his glare at the werewolf, how own wolf inside growling at a volume that drowned out all other noise from his ears. The silver wolf then broke the intense eye contact they shared, he tilted his head up and gave a mighty howl to the sky. The other wolves that were still causing mayhem all stopped and responded with a shared howl. Then they turned for the trees and dashed off, showing their tails as they disappeared. When Suho could no longer hear paws stepping on his land, he let out the breath he was furiously holding in. He turned to face his pack's village in complete dismay. Fire was licking at the walls of some houses, broken glass scattered the ground, holes in rooves and doors busted in. Suho felt so pained at the sight. How could he have let this happen? Why didn't he sense their presence sooner? He should have been their to protect his pack. As if Suho's thoughts could be heard by others, a hand was placed on his shoulder to comfort him.
"It's not your fault Alpha, we all should have sensed them coming," Kai spoke, the other warriors of the pack all standing behind him with similar forlorn over their faces. Suho couldn't be torn from the sight of everything though, he was transfixed to it.
"Have someone go and check on the Epsilons to make sure they are alright." Kai nodded and looked back, but two people were already making the move to fulfil that command. "The rest of you, let's put out these fires, we've got a long night ahead of us."
"Yes Alpha." A mumbled chorus spoke out before they all shuffled into action. Kai was still standing with his Alpha, his hand never having left his shoulder as he watched the other rushing for backets of water.
"What are we going to do about the attack?" He asked.
"We won't respond."
"Suho, are you sure? This is the worst attack yet."
"I said we will not respond," Suho growled at his Beta, who finally removed his hand carefully. "What they have done is unforgiveable, but I sense there is more to this than what meets the eye. No matter what, we must remember we are a peaceful pack, and we will not get dragged down to their level. Besides, committing such an act of violence without provication will anger the goddess, Lunar. I am sure they will recieve their punishment soon enough."
