A Magical Allegory for the Real World "Dragons"

"This is an utterly charming allegorical-fantasy children's tale that works on so many levels. On the one hand, it's a great story about a dragon who is abandoned, more or less, in a world he doesn't belong in. How can he adapt in a world that doesn't understand him, especially when his best friend is a gnome--not the most splendid conversationalist? Of course, it doesn't take much to realize that the dragon isn't a dragon; he's all of us, or anyone who ends up somewhere where they're out of place, where all of "their kind" has fled for greener pastures, yet we remain, either because we don't know any better or because this IS home, even though it wasn't made for someone like us. This story resonated with me on a deeply autobiographical level, since I'm the "dragon" in my town--someone who isn't from here, who doesn't belong, and whose accent sticks out like a sore thumb. And yet, I've (almost) forgotten other worlds exist, and prefer to stay here with my little gnome (my family) and try to make a place for myself, along with the help of a kindly mayor like Mozart (I wish Mozart was my mayor/boss!). The clever touches of this story would make it resonate with any child, but it also connects on a larger, philosophical level with adults. My only quibble is that the story is too short! It's got so much room for development, for adventures and conversations that would take it in new and interesting directions. I would like to see a conversation between the dragon and Mozart that would help underline the moral you state at the ending. Or more with the gnome as well. Maybe something with the villagers, too, who can't understand such a dragon (at least, at first). But that aside, this is a true children's story in the best sense of the word, and I';m so glad I finally stumbled across it!"

Could be a Picture Book

"As stated up top, Get a good water color artist (I don't know why but it gives me a water color vibe) and this could a great picture book. While I may have rated this as average, I think it's appropriate for the age group."

This was... wow!

"I wasn't expecting to learn something but I did. Because I often face this same problem myself, the story spoke to me personally. I was very happy to find such a story, short as it is. I really liked it and I hope to see more just like it. This is a very good bit of writing with a lesson I think everyone can understand. Thank you so much for writing. You have a new fan :)"

Colorful

"I thought this was really colorful! When Monster Mozart brought the little piano to play to the dragon, I could almost hear the sounds that represent color to him, I could imagine the dragon's wonder starting to ignite a desire to see what lies outside and beyond just the cave! I would have like to hear the rest of the story instead of ending at just the first chapter."

A cute story

"I thought this was a very fun short story. The idea of the dragon and the man that encouraged him to explore the outside world, the conveyance of feeling. And that last line was great! I loved the creativity that you employed into this piece. I thought that this could have been stronger toward the beginning -- perhaps through a stronger description of the oppression that dragon suffered or through something a little more hands-on for the reader. I was a little confused at first. I also wondered why the man was called Monster Mozart. Was he actually a monster or was it something else? I think the layers was what really made this story. A few technical fixes could really make this shine. Hope this helps. Great work! :)"

Not the worst children's tale ever

"At the beginning when you used killed not exactly a good thing to have in a kid's story. Probably use some euphemisms instead of "killed". For a tale meant for children it is fine since it has a moral and a chronological order of events."
