Woow, so good
"This was so scary, I feel sorry for James. "
I Still Call Out For You
"What an amazing start for a novel. The author articulated such raw emotion throughout this chapter. Skillful ability to draw the reader into the scene, giving them the sense of being present. Nice work. "
Wow
"The way the author describes the scenery and emotions, are so on point, starting from the first chapter i felt like crying already, it's definelety worth reading and 10 stars if i could"
Melancholy but sweet!
"It was a long chapter, but still not enough for me to completely make up my mind on it. I can, however, try to judge it from the beginning. The writing skills are incredible, they bring the entire book together, the past and the present, the good and the bad, small everyday moments that fall into a pit of tragedy. Reading this much only, I'm already haunted by questions. What happened to James? How did he die? when will she tell Sara? how old is Sara? Where will they be moving and what will happen next? The story really is playing with my emotions because it's so sad, I can't help but feel for Hannah and her daughter, who seeks a father but doesn't know that he can't be there for them. I hope they can stay strong and fight as they move forwards, he'll always be watching from up there! Love, Coffee."
Absolutely Amazing!
"Oh wow, where do I start? This is beautifully written. Just by reading your summary you had me hooked. The way you described everything makes me feel like I know exactly what they are going through. I don’t think I could complain about anything really. I actually wished it was longer because your style is so beautiful and the plot is amazing."
I STILL CALL OUT TO YOU.
"I did not know quite what to expect from this story with this author being new to me, but I am quite happy to have read her work! The writer skillfully set her characters and plot from the very beginning. I saw them flow and grow as I kept reading. I believe in investing a reader first with setting the scene and characters in an interesting first paragraph or two to make a great want to continue reading. The author certainly did that with interspersed scenes of present and past. Overall, I found great satisfaction in this author's writing skills and I would read any other works she writes. "
Simply Beautiful
"I almost cried... I want to cry... this is beautiful, this is beautiful... I feel so sorry for them, although I can't relate. Still, the emotion is there... You did it again... writing in emotion is so beautiful; I love it; I love how you take one simple word and change it into a beautiful one-page masterpiece. 🦋🤗 Never stop writing, sweetie, you are an amazing author; I hope you will write a book one day? That would be even more amazing... I would love to read it if you do... The characters are well explained, every detail tugs on my heart, the way Sarah feels about her father, she may be young, but she still has emotion, the way her mother feels when Sarah keeps asking her, it's brilliant, their emotions mashed into this book... The depression is there, but it doesn't assume the book, it doesn't control the book; you keep the level balanced, their emotions, and the memories... If I can add the memories part, Inkitt provides tools to use, to split memories from the story... All in all, I love it... Keep writing sweetie, you are amazing..."
Hope is a bastion of light cutting through the saddness
"Your story is sweet and concise. It is difficult and sad. In a minimalistic way you've captured a rawness that is relevant to everyone with a husband and a father, a wife and a mother and more importantly a child with a big life moment looming large overhead. Despite some issues with tenses, grammar and punctuation the story hits close to home. As a father who is close to losing a father in-law, I watch my wife's sorrow at losing her father, and we discuss and debate how we will tell our daughter and help her understand while she is far too young to grasp the depth of what the rest of us are going through. You've done a marvellous job of touching each aspect of the reality. Beyond that you've created an endearing and hopefully enduring mother/daughter relationship full of love and hope in spite of all the sadness and misunderstanding. A really nice read and change of pace for me. Great work!"
Underrated
"I assume this story is ongoing because it doesn't say otherwise, but even as a one-shot, it works perfectly because in one chapter, we see everything from a woman grieving the loss of her partner to trying to comfort her daughter, Sara, as they try to figure out where to go from here. If it is an ongoing story, I definitely look forward to the updates to see where this story goes. It certainly is not going to be easy for them to put the past behind, but they are resilient, and they are determined to keep his spirit alive. This chapter mostly plays on very dark, depressing emotions of grief, loss, and despair, but there is also a sense of hope. The characters are portrayed realistically, especially little Sara's views on her father's absence, and their interactions will absolutely break your heart and (hopefully) put it back together again. The descriptive writing of the emotions being felt is top notch, I really felt immersed from the first sentence. I recommend this to anyone, the writing will touch your soul. "
An Emotional Ride
"As someone who suffers from OCD and anxiety, I was curious to how well you would work the depression into your novel. I feel like, even in the beginning, you kept it nice and understated. The depression is there but it's not taking up pages and pages of narrative, which is wonderful. Nobody wants something drilled into their head, over and over. I especially loved how naturally your narrative flowed- successfully progressing the novel without being bogged down by minor details. You gave just enough information to keep going. It was a wonderful piece that pulled on my heartstrings. James was vague introduced but I still felt for him and his family... especially when you mentioned how Sara pnly has to look at herself to see her father. I feel like that captured loss for a child perfectly. Great job! I can't wait to read more! Like seriously, you have to update! "
Very Interesting
"I like your descriptions. Rich in detail. You set the setting, environment, and story well. These are the type of description I like to read. You can easily visualize it in your mind and see it playing out right in front of you. I really wish you would write more. If you can make the other chapters just as good or even better, like this one, you will have an awesome book. Chapter 1 is really good. I have enjoyed reading it. Please write more! "
An honest review
"I still call out for you www (what went well): • Short but sweet. A very nice novella about love, loss and life. Definitely worth a quick read. • Very heart warming and made me smile plenty :) ebi (even better if): • A couple of sentences don't quite make sense. The first one I caught was: "Heart thumped in her chest." This makes it sound like "heart" is a person. Just change this to have the subject (Hannah) using the pronoun "her" in the beginning: "Her heart thumped in her chest." And the other sentence is: "James was beaming at her ( . . . ) as if he could sense what Hannah was feeling." I think it would make a bit more sense if the "what" was changed to a "how". It's only a small alteration but I think it will allow better flow. I just recommend reading through to edit and reading it aloud and perhaps getting others to read through it (family or friends) who can point out other anomalies etc :) • There are a few filler words you can remove (e.g. "that" and "at that moment" etc -- you can find lists on the web). Once again when you read through it, see if you can leave words out and if it still makes perfect sense, that's a filler word. • It is slightly confusing having dialogue and thoughts typed the same (make the text non italic-al or remove the speech marks from the thoughts, etc). • "in the back of her mouth" should be: "in the back of her throat" • There are some punctuation mistakes, i.e. missed commas and commas where semi colons should have been etc • I felt it was lackign a bit of personality. Don't fret too mcuh about this though; I think writers find their personal style after practice and years of writing etc, so keep on writing and you'll get there! And trust me, you have amazing potential -- I can tell (even from such a short book!) I also really feel this would have been better if it was a longer book and dived deeper into the characters, because it's hard to understand their feelings and what they are like when we don't know much."
