Chapter 1

Eyes that lost their color, with thoughts all about her. He laid flat on his monotonous comfortable bed, staring at the ceiling, which was just as simple and boring as his current position. “Axel, honey, nothing will pass if you refuse to let it go. I know it’s hard, but remember to eat to regain your strength,” his mother remarked as she entered his room, carrying a wooden tray with a glass of water and a bowl of oatmeal. Axel drew the blanket up above him, closing his eyes. His mother sighed and set the tray on his nightstand, thinking he’d eat later. He took off the blanket as little tears streamed down his face as he heard the door shut. Every second of the day, the question “why?” ran through his mind. “What have I done wrong? I know I loved her so much; what went wrong? I guess things like this will never work out for me,” he thought to himself as he looked beside him. He was going to eat and re-energize.

He gently got from his bed and placed the tray on his lap as he took his first bite, wiping away the tears. He stood after finishing the meal and carried the empty utensils to the kitchen sink. He then turned to the living room, where he saw his parents snuggled up together, blissfully watching a movie. As he walked to his room, he gave a feeble smile. He curled himself back into bed in the hopes of falling asleep sooner and remaining in the world he desired. In a world, where he is with the girl he used to adore. He wakes up in the morning with the same discomfort he’s been experiencing for the past few days, but he’s steadily improving.

He’s thinking of methods to keep himself occupied and establish a new routine without her now that summer has arrived. He wants to make a positive difference in his life by working hard and trying new things. As he was scanning through his phone for inspiration, an advertisement arrived, and just as he was about to dismiss it, something drew his attention. Before opting to download the advertisement, he thoroughly examined it. “Is chatting with strangers a thing nowadays? Would it help me or make things worse?” Axel wondered as he waited for the app to download. Hours have passed and he has yet to meet a nice person with whom he could have a meaningful conversation, as everyone he has met so far wants to do bad things and tell dirty jokes. Axel is still hoping to strike up a discussion with at least one individual.

His mother’s voice reverberated throughout the house, “Axel! dinner’s ready! Come down while it’s still hot!” Axel groaned before turning off his phone and leaving it to charge. Axel’s phone buzzed and lit up as he shut the door, indicating that he had received a message.
