Chapter 1: Finals

The moon is high in the sky, displaying it’s beauty and brightness to the world. Allowing it’s features to shine through the darkness. Stars glistened like glitter in a painting. It’s moonlight shines through a bedroom window, brushing a girl’s face as she reads the piece of paper in her hand. The room is crammed with bookcases. A lamp and a table covered in magazines and newspapers. A photo frame and stocks of documents are placed beside the bed.

The door opened to reveal a man in his forties dressed in a white t-shirt and grey trousers. “You stole my documents again?” the man complained, the girl hastily jumped out of her bed, quickly concealing the documents on her back and smiling innocently at the man. “what? I did not.” She answered innocently. The man looked her in the eyes, knowing full well that she was lying again.

“Come on, Julie, give it to me” the man insisted, and the girl reluctantly handed over the document before responding, “Fine!” The man removed the paperwork from her grip, turned around, and walked out the door, but before he could leave, he turned and smiled pleasantly at Julie, who was now sulking. “If you pass your finals, I’ll give you my documentation.” Julie immediately smiles and hugs the man tightly. “really? Thank you very much, Dad!”

My head hung low as I walked through the corridors of our school, the hood of my hoodie drawn over my head. As I stroll by the students, I can feel their glances. But I ignored them and went directly to my locker. I still had time until we started finals, so I headed to our library to review. I took a book and sat at one of the tables. Not long after, I notice someone sitting beside me. I cast a glance at him before returning my attention to the text.

“what?” I uttered not trying to mask my irritation. The guy nervously chuckled, “Hi!” he said with zeal, his smile disguising his uneasiness. I watch him squirming under the table and shaking his legs up and down. “Say it,” I urged, uninterestedly, and he took a long breath and opened his lips to speak, but quickly closed it again, closing his eyes hard. “u-uhm u-uh.” he stuttered.

“I’ll go if you don’t say it,” I said, my gaze fixed on the book. “w-wait, um,” he says, looking down at his lap before saying something under his breath that I can’t understand. I get up from my seat, refusing to take this crap, but before I could reach for my backpack, I was stopped by a hand. When I looked where the hand came from, it was the guy. “W-WAIT! I LIKE YOU!” He exclaimed, attracting the attention of the other pupils and even the librarian. His cheeks turned bright red with humiliation.

I remove his hand off my wrist and gaze at him. “I’m sorry, but I’m not looking for a relationship right now. I sincerely apologize.” The guy sighed significantly, probably knowing what I was going to say. He smiled softly as he gazed at me. “It’s okay, I understand” The bell abruptly rang, and the students rushed out, heading to their classes, leaving the two of us alone. Awkwardness filled the air. I broke the silence by saying, “Let’s go,” and he looked at me, surprised. “u-uh yeah,” he say as we exit the library to our respective classes.

I dashed to my class and sat in my seat, waiting for the teacher. I take out my notebook to study for a few minutes, but my mind won’t let me focus because of what happened earlier. It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, but it was the first time someone had confessed to me in such a public setting. It was always unknown if someone wanted to confess to me. The last time someone confessed to me, it was on paper, claiming he has liked me for a long time and that he adores me even though he knows I would reject him. And occasionally via anonymous message. I shrugged off my thought when the teacher came.

Letting the cool breeze hit her face as she strolls down the street. Swaying trees and chattering birds can be heard in the distance. She passes a couple sitting on a bench, watching their children frolic. She quickly drops by a convenience store and buys some food. When she approached the checkout, the man raised his head and widened his eyes before saying, “Oh, you’re Collin’s daughter?”

“Yes, and how did you know me?” Julie smiled. “You’re dad regularly comes by my store and we sometimes talk and he talks a lot about you,” the guy said with a huge grin. Julie nodded and giggled. And she said ” I see, by the way how much is the total?” the man answered ” The total is 14 bucks .” Julie gave the money and said ” I guess ill see you around.” And the man replied ” See you, thank you!” Juliet smiled widely and went out of the store.

Soon after, she comes to a halt in front of a house and opens the front door before entering. She was drinking the cup of water in her hand when she heard a voice behind her. “How’s your day going?” the woman inquired. “Oh, mom, you scared me!” her mother chuckled. “You should definitely cut back on the coffee, my darling,” her mother joked. “I should be the one to tell you that,” she pouted sweetly. Her mother chuckled once more before hugging her daughter, who did not hesitate to return the hug.

“How’s your exam? Was it simple?” she inquired, breaking the hug. “I know it’s ridiculous of me to ask if I have a highly brilliant daughter,” her mother laughed, as well as Julie. “of course mom, it’s always easy.” Julie says with a mischievous grin on her face and a vicious flick of her hair. “Of course she’s smart, she got it from me that’s why.” her dad appeared walking towards them, smiling.

“Dad, I thought you’re in work” her dad feigned a frown “why? you don’t want to see me?” Her dad said placing his right hand on his heart, acting hurt. Julie and her mom giggled. “Stop your drama Sherlock, and come here.” Her dad walked over to them and quickly engulfed them in a hug.
