Prologue
I looked out the window and saw the city where I grew up shrink smaller by each passing minute. My entire childhood vanishing with the city. As the plane got higher in the sky, all I could see out the window were the dark clouds.
I looked to my side and saw my three year old sister laughing at some videos playing on the phone. As I looked at Grace, laughing carelessly and happily, I wondered if she’ll someday realize what had happened to our family. Though I hope she never does.
My gaze passed towards my mother, sitting beside Grace. She seemed to be lost in her thoughts, staring aimlessly at the back of the seat in front of her. I could see the worry and stress etched on her face.
Before boarding the flight, my mother told me that it’ll be fine. That we’ll be fine. But deep down, I am still confused and lost. Still debating if this is my reality.
I looked back at the dark clouds outside, that started to seem comforting.
I guess people change and in the end, live changes too.
