One
I glanced down at the ground.
Damn my father. I growled to myself.
Blood covered my hands and body, but they weren't my own. A wicked grin plastered itself on my face as I looked at the two dead vampires on the ground. Their heads were almost completely torn in half.
They deserved that fate.
I enjoyed ripping their mouths apart.
Then I looked over into the woods and saw a young woman probably 2 or 3 years younger than me. She shivered from the cold, and her eyes widened at the sight. I was in my werewolf form, but I also had the fangs and nails of a vampire.
That's right.
I'm a hybrid.
And these two vampires were sent by my father to come and murder me.
We hated each other.
We both knew I was an accident.
But my werewolf mother said otherwise.
Well, fuck Clarissa, our mother is dead. My beast hissed from within me.
Don't say that about our birth giver. I growled to my beast.
I cut off our link, looking at the woman.
"What's your-" But a water lily and lilac scent cut me off.
Dammit. I thought to myself.
"Aw, shit." I hissed.
"I-I'm sorry..." Her voice was barely a whisper. I sniffed the air. She was a werewolf. Thank the Moon Goddess or whatever she wasn't a human. "I..I'll just p-pretend I saw nothing... Tonight never happened."
"Before you go, woman, let me know your name and pack your from." I said a bit softer, walking towards her slightly.
I guess I kinda deserved to know.
"Ruelle Tranley, daughter of Beta Jackson. I belong to the Sunrise Pack." She mumbled. "Yours? I deserve to know as well."
She sounded a bit more comfortable with me.
I transformed into my human form.
My skin was dark, like my mother's, and my hair dark brown like my father's. I had my mother's green eyes when I was calm, but when I was angry or my beast was in control, I had the red eyes of a vampire. I hated it because it gave who I was away.
"Oh sweetheart, we both know full and well you know who I am from the gossip." I chuckled, walking closer to her until my breath fanned her face. She looked up at me. I also had a vampire's height at 6'7. She seemed to be around 5'6.
"Right. But I don't know your name..." She mumbled, looking at my chest, scared to meet my eyes.
I wanted to remain feared. Even by this woman who was my mate by destiny.
"It's Cain. Cain Torres." I mumbled, placing one of my worn hands under her chin, lifting it up.
"Now we split ways, right?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. I tucked a strand of her light brown hair behind her ear. She seemed a little hurt.
Keep mate with us. My beast, Caspian growled.
Why? What if she hates us for who we really are? I worried. That's why I wanted her to leave.
Well, she fucking just watched us rip vampire mouths almost in half. If this brilliant woman can handle that, she can handle us. Caspian reasoned with me. I sighed. He was right.
"Not unless you can handle me being a mass murder of vampires." I chuckled.
"I guess, as long as I don't have to watch that again." She said, which surprised me. I laughed.
"Sweetheart, let me be straightforward with you. Your mate is a hybrid. H-Y-B-R-I-D. My father despises me, as I do myself. I have a horrific past, and have been close to death multiple times. Vampires and even some werewolves are being sent to their deaths trying to kill me. I've been doing this since I was 10." I looked into her blue depths.
She was hypnotizing.
Everything about Ruelle was, I realized.
"I know, Conrad. I'm 24 for crying out loud. I've been looking since I was 16 for my mate. And it's you. I can handle this. The Moon Goddess chose us for each other for a reason." Ruelle mumbled, stroking my arm.
"I don't believe in the Moon Goddess." I sighed, pulling away.
"Well you look like you lean to your werewolf side more. Although, I prefer you to be angry so I can see those red eyes again. I like them more than your green eyes." She whispered, reaching up and cupping my face.
I looked down at her in honest surprise.
"You like my red eyes?"
See, she is for us! Believe mate! Take mate with you! Caspian howled to me.
"I love them."
"Very well then." I sighed, before easily lifting her up.
"The heck?" She looked at me in surprise.
"Trust me." I smirked as I gripped her ass tight. She squeaked in response.
I ran into the woods, using my vampire speed. I kept running for what felt like hours till we reached the shore. I stopped, gasping for air as I held Mavis in my arms. She was sleeping.
We were sitting in a private boat, which was taking us to my family's condo. I glanced over in my seat, turning the wheel as she woke up.
"Where are we...?" Ruelle yawned, adjusting her bloodied hoodie and leggings.
"Going to my family's private condo."
"It's to early for this! What the fuck...."
"You agreed to this, Ruelle." I said, slightly hurt. And oh, I loved the way her name rolled off my lips.
"Right." She said, regret flickering in her eyes as she sensed my hurt. I pulled in the dock, hopping out before extending my hand to her. I looked towards the door as Farren ran out.
Ruelle took my hand, looking at me with a tilted head.
"You motherfucker!" The 20 year old screamed at me, kneeing me in the guts as soon as she reached us.
"Dammit!" I groaned, placing a hand on Mavis's shoulder while clutching my privates in my other hand.
"That's payback for scaring Granny." She hissed, showing her fangs at me. Then she looked over at Ruelle, who was giggling while helping me support myself as I recovered.
Soon, I stood up, looking down at the two girls.
"Farren, this is Ruelle, Ruelle, this is my half sister, Farren." I introduced them, scratching the back of my neck.
"Hi! Nice to meet you. Are you Cain's new girlfriend? It's about time he had one." She giggled, shaking hands with Ruelle.
"Uh...something like that..." Ruelle sighed nervously.
"Nu-uh... Cain, is she your mate!?" Farren squealed.
I nodded, wrapping my arm around Mavis and pulling her close.
"Mhm."
Then Farren took a minute to process this.
"You must be a human or werewolf then, right?" She mumbled.
"Werewolf..." Ruelle trailed off awkwardly, staying close to me.
"Right. Uh, the only other full werewolf in the house is Grams. Farren warned her.
"Noted." Ruelle nodded sharply. I slid my arm down to her hand. She took it intertwining our fingers. I smiled.
Is this happiness? I thought to myself and we stepped off the old dock and onto the grass.
