Act 1 - The meeting

Laying here on my bed I groan "uggh it's 5:40 in the morning and I haven't slept a single moment since getting in, and this is the 5th night in a row".

I close my eyes and calm my mind once more, slowing it down into a state of relaxation, until finally entering into the dream realm. I go adventuring across an island possessing emerald green grass and a small cottage in the distance. Strolling up to this cottage my dream transforms into myself laying on my cream coloured bed with no one else to be seen or heard, the cream coloured couch across from me looks cosy and comfortable to the eye, alongside the small table which sat beside it with a digital clock sitting at 6:21. I lay here with a long coffee coloured dress, sheets rolled up beside me and a bed which felt so comfortable that all I wish to do is rest here.

Without warning a young woman appears from thin air, landing in a sitting position on the couch across from me. She possess a non threatening presentation in both body alongside clothing, in that neither suggests she desired to perform any harm, yet upon appearing the room felt warmer as if the heating had been left on for some time. She wore a simple pair of black trousers and a cream simple jumper, with straightened brown hair, alongside no makeup covering her face. She speaks to me in a calm non threatening manner "hey, you called me. I hear you have a little trouble sleeping".

Feeling confused at the situation, all my mind can muster is "who are you and what do you want of me" I say curiously to her, as she began moving her eyes up and down the length of my body.

Her reply comes smoothly "oh you called me remember. You called me to help with your sleeping issue which has plagued you for a long while now. Now...as for who I am, well you see when someone passes they may come to me if they have been a little naughty and I help them".

Rummaging through my mind as to who this may be, or of any memories calling out for help, a slight memory came back of me calling out to Nodoria the god of sleep for help, but the being in front of me does not resemble that god. No, they did not resemble them at all, thus I pose to them "so who are you the goddess of? "

She smirks then replies "Yes I am a goddess, of the underworld of course, and I heard you were in need of some wonderful sleep, so I'm here to make a deal. You will give me your soul at the end of your life, I shall take good care of you in paradise, and in turn I will tell my friend Insomnia to leave you alone. If you refuse then my friend Insomnia wishes to have you, oh how much she desires both your body and soul, she wants you as a slave to the darkness. So tell me will you take it?".

I awake from the dream filled with horror, rapidly breathing in and out as I try to control my breath, my mind filled with anxiety, until eventually I slow my breathing down to a gentle 'in and out' relaxing my thoughts to "it was just a dream".

Not more than a moment passes when a soft familiar voice comes from beside me, slowly she emerges in front my view standing over me with a menacing grin. "Oh no. Oh no" I thought as she spoke out once more "so tell me are you ready to take the deal".

Without much hesitation a simple "maybe" spills out my mouth before I could even think of a response, the tiredness wares heavy on my mind even after sleep, all I wish was for it to be gone.

She proceeds to calmly sit on the bed, placing her pale white hand onto my chest and spoke softly "oh don't worry there are no gods coming for you, cry, cry, cry all you wish, for it's just me and you". I tell her I would agree just to get rid of the awful insomnia, at the same time a deep feeling of regret sunk its way deep into the back of my mind as she replies in a soft menacing tone "peeeerfect, peeeerfect. You will enjoy the island paradise and now that you have agreed I want you to live the best life you can, and in turn I will not interfere."

A question pries its way into my mind and pours out my mouth "how can you guarantee that".

She smiles at me once more and replies "well you see I do not care for your fruitless life and I very much uphold my bargains unless you break them, then you are mine regardless. I will drag you into my realm when I catch you betraying me, and there will be no escape. Besides you can join me for a little while or join insomnia for eternity. Imagine that no sleep even after death, and endless tormenting tiredness".

I ask her "what will happen if you take me, will it be as bad as they say, will I suffer eternal depression in a horrible dark place".

She looks at me with a slight smirk and nods "only if you push me or become one of those naughty souls, but if you work with me then all will be well".

She produces a large brief case, pulling out a single piece of paper from it before presenting the document to me by holding it straight up for me to see. "So about the contract, here it is, and in the bag is all the information about you".

I look up at the contract and see very clear writing, but cannot make it out as it all looks foreign and so I tell her "I cannot read it, it looks like elvish".

She rolls her eyes and mutters "I forgot humans can't read elvish", she coughs and states "you can't read Elvish. Ok, so what this contains is exactly what we have been talking about and in exchange for a perfect sleep I will have your soul for 10 years. You want to sign".

She hands me the contract and for a moment I think about the 10 years, "that is half as long as I've had this misery, maybe it's worth it".

She hands me a pen and I sign my name down at the bottom where one could presume 'signature' was written in Elvish. Passing the document back to her she smiles with glee as she holds out her hand and gently takes it from me. "So now that you have agreed I expect you to uphold his agreement until you perish, so no more agreements with any other gods. At the end of your life I will take your soul and you will serve me for 10 years".

Taking a moment to think things through I asked her "wait so what will I be doing".

Her gaze moved from me to the ceiling, slowly returning with a neutral expression "you will be spending time at the reception taking in guests like yourself, something a little soft and somewhat boring, unless you desire a spell in the mines". Her eyes glance at the ceiling for a passing moment before continuing "however should you break the terms then for me the fun begins".

She gives me a slightly menacing look as her eyes glance up and down at me. Looking at her with a sense of slight disbelief as she slipped in the piece of paper I pondered if this was all real or just an elaborate trick into something much worse, she looked into my eyes and said "oh do not worry. Anyway I shall be heading, and remember to stay away from the scary ghosts ahaha" She smiled cheekily as she slowly disappeared into the void. The room became cooler, and appeared as if nothing had ever happened since her visit.
