ACT 1: MORNING - THE WEIGHT OF DAWN
SCENE 1: HOSHIZORA APARTMENT - 5:47 AM
[Visual Cue: Cramped but lived-in apartment. Warm amber light filters through thin curtains. The room is small two futons on the floor, children's drawings taped to walls, a small kitchen visible through an open doorway.]
The alarm clock buzzes.
BUZZ. BUZZ. BUZZ.
A hand reaches out from under a worn blanket.
Click.
Silence.
AKIMITSU HOSHIZORA (Internal):
Another morning. Another day of pretending I'm not drowning.
[Visual Cue: Close-up of Akitsu's hazel eyes opening slowly. Dark circles underneath. His long, messy dark blue hair falls across his face.]
He sits up.
Stretches.
His joints crack softly.
CRACK. POP.
AKITSU (Internal):
Eighteen years old and I sound like an old man. Then again, I feel like one too.
[Visual Cue: Wide shot of the small apartment. His mother, MINAKO HOSHIZORA (47), sleeps on the other futon, her breathing shallow. Beside her, tiny HINA HOSHIZORA (4) is curled up like a little ball, hugging a worn stuffed rabbit.]
He looks at them.
His expression softens.
Just a little.
AKITSU (Internal):
But they need me. So I get up.
He stands quietly.
Tiptoes to the kitchen.
CREAK.
The floorboard betrays him.
But neither of them stir.
Good.
[Visual Cue: Akitsu in the small kitchen. He fills a kettle with water, places it on the stove. His movements are mechanical, practiced—this is routine.]
The water begins to heat.
HISSSSSS.
While waiting, he opens the small refrigerator.
[Visual Cue: Inside the fridge—mostly empty. A carton of eggs (4 left), some vegetables, a small container of rice, milk.]
He counts mentally.
AKITSU (Internal):
Four eggs. Enough for breakfast. Need to pick up more after my shift tonight. Maybe Mr. Yamada will let me take the day-old bread again.
He cracks two eggs into a pan.
SIZZLE.
The smell fills the tiny kitchen.
Behind him, a small voice.
HINA:
"Aki-nii..."
[Visual Cue: Hina, standing in the doorway, rubbing her eyes. Her hair is a mess. She's wearing oversized pajamas with bunny prints. She looks impossibly small.]
AKITSU:
He turns, his tired expression immediately softening into something warm.
"Good morning, Hina. Did I wake you?"
HINA:
She shakes her head, wobbling over to him.
"Nuh-uh. I smelled yummy food."
He smiles.
Actually smiles.
[Visual Cue: Close-up of Akitsu's rare genuine smile. For a moment, the weight lifts.]
AKITSU:
"Then your nose is very smart. Go wash your face, okay? Breakfast will be ready soon."
HINA:
"Okay!"
PATTER PATTER PATTER.
She runs off to the bathroom.
AKITSU (Internal):
She's the only reason I can still smile like that.
SCENE 2: ICHIJO ESTATE - 6:15 AM
[Visual Cue: Massive Western-style mansion. Everything is white marble, gold accents, floor-to-ceiling windows. The morning sun streams in, but the light feels cold. Empty.]
A bedroom door opens.
[Visual Cue: An elderly woman in a simple maid uniform, SACHIKO MORIMOTO (58), enters carrying a silver tray. Her face is kind but weathered. She's seen too much.]
SACHIKO:
Soft but firm.
"Miyuki-sama. It's morning."
[Visual Cue: A massive canopy bed. White silk sheets. In the center, a small figure—MIYUKI ICHIJO (18) is barely visible under the covers. Her long, fluffy light grey hair spills across the pillow like moonlight.]
No response.
SACHIKO:
She walks closer, setting the tray on the bedside table. A knowing smile.
"I brought your favorite tea. And toast with strawberry jam."
A groan from under the covers.
MIYUKI:
Muffled.
"...Sachi-san... five more minutes..."
SACHIKO:
"You said that yesterday. And the day before. And—"
MIYUKI:
She throws the covers off dramatically, sitting up. Her hair is beautifully messy. Even half-asleep, she looks like a painting.
"Fine, fine. You win."
[Visual Cue: Miyuki's blue eyes—stunning but somehow empty. She's not wearing her glasses. She squints slightly.]
SACHIKO:
Handing her the glasses from the nightstand.
"You'll hurt your eyes."
MIYUKI:
Taking them, putting them on.
"You sound like my mother."
A pause.
An uncomfortable silence.
SACHIKO:
Gentle, but there's pain there.
"Someone has to."
MIYUKI (Internal):
Ouch. She's not wrong.
[Visual Cue: Miyuki sits at the edge of her massive bed, holding the teacup. Steam rises. The room is immaculate—designer furniture, expensive art on the walls, a walk-in closet visible through an open door. Everything perfect. Everything lifeless.]
She sips the tea.
MIYUKI:
"Where are they this time?"
SACHIKO:
"Your father is in Singapore. Business conference. Your mother went to Paris. Something about a charity gala."
MIYUKI:
Flat. No emotion.
"Of course."
MIYUKI (Internal):
Another week. Another empty house. Another performance.
SACHIKO:
She sits beside her—a gesture that crosses the employer-employee line, but neither of them care anymore.
"Your father called last night. He wanted me to tell you—"
MIYUKI:
"Let me guess. 'Good luck in your last semester. Make us proud. Here's some money.' Right?"
Silence.
SACHIKO:
Sad smile.
"...He did transfer funds to your account."
MIYUKI:
She laughs.
But there's no joy in it.
"At least he's consistent."
SCENE 3: PARALLEL MORNINGS
[Visual Cue: Split screen effect. Left side: Akitsu's small apartment. Right side: Miyuki's mansion.]
LEFT - AKITSU:
He places a small plate of eggs and rice in front of Hina.
AKITSU:
"Eat slowly, okay? Don't choke."
HINA:
"Okay, Aki-nii!"
She digs in with a plastic fork, smiling.
RIGHT - MIYUKI:
She stares at the perfectly arranged toast and jam.
Takes one bite.
Sets it down.
Not hungry.
LEFT - AKITSU:
He gently shakes his mother's shoulder.
AKITSU:
"Mom. Your medication."
MINAKO:
Her eyes flutter open. She looks exhausted even after sleeping.
"...Akitsu... what time is it?"
AKITSU:
"Early. But you need to take these before I leave for school."
He hands her pills and water.
RIGHT - MIYUKI:
She looks at her phone.
[NOTIFICATION: 15 UNREAD MESSAGES]
All from the group chat: "Queen Bees 👑✨"
She doesn't open it.
LEFT - AKITSU:
MINAKO:
After taking the pills, weak smile.
"You're such a good boy, Akitsu. Your father would be so proud."
AKITSU:
His jaw tightens slightly.
"...Thanks, Mom."
AKITSU (Internal):
Don't think about him. Not now. I can't afford to break.
RIGHT - MIYUKI:
SACHIKO:
"Will you be home for dinner?"
MIYUKI:
Putting on her mask—smiling, bright.
"Probably not. The girls want to go shopping after school."
SACHIKO:
She knows it's a lie.
But doesn't push.
"...I'll leave something in the fridge."
MIYUKI (Internal):
I'll probably eat alone. Again.
ACT 2: THE JOURNEY - TWO PATHS
SCENE 4: AKITSU'S COMMUTE - 7:23 AM
[Visual Cue: Narrow streets of a working-class neighborhood. Small shops, telephone wires crisscrossing above, elderly people sweeping their doorsteps. The world is waking up slowly.]
Akitsu walks.
His bag slung over one shoulder.
Hands in pockets.
Long dark blue hair slightly damp from a quick shower.
Glasses catching the morning light.
He looks like a shadow.
VOICE (Elderly):
"Akimitsu-kun! Good morning!"
He turns.
[Visual Cue: An elderly woman, MRS. HAYASHI (72), standing outside a small grocery store. She's smiling warmly, holding a broom.]
AKITSU:
Small polite bow.
"Good morning, Mrs. Hayashi."
MRS. HAYASHI:
"Heading to school? Big day, isn't it? Last few weeks!"
AKITSU:
Faint smile.
"Yes. Almost over."
MRS. HAYASHI:
"Your mother told me about your scholarship! A prestigious university! Your father would be—"
AKITSU:
Quickly, but not rudely.
"Thank you. I... I should get going. Don't want to be late."
MRS. HAYASHI:
Understanding in her eyes.
"Of course, of course. Oh! Wait!"
She hurries inside, comes back with a small bag.
MRS. HAYASHI:
"Some apples. They're perfectly good, just a little bruised. For Hina-chan."
AKITSU:
He hesitates.
AKITSU:
"Mrs. Hayashi, I can't—"
MRS. HAYASHI:
Firm.
"You can. And you will. Your father helped my husband many times. This is... just passing it forward."
AKITSU:
His throat tightens.
He bows deeper.
"...Thank you."
AKITSU (Internal):
Even now. Even after two years. His kindness still echoes.
SCENE 5: MIYUKI'S COMMUTE - 7:31 AM
[Visual Cue: A sleek black car glides through pristine streets. High-end boutiques, modern architecture, everything polished and perfect.]
Inside the car.
[Visual Cue: Miyuki sits in the back seat. She's dressed immaculately—designer uniform, perfectly styled hair, light makeup. She looks like she stepped out of a magazine.]
The driver, MR. TANAKA (50s), glances in the rearview mirror.
MR. TANAKA:
"Will you need a ride after school, Miyuki-sama?"
MIYUKI:
Staring out the window.
"No. I'll get a ride with friends."
Another lie.
MIYUKI (Internal):
I'll probably just walk. Or take the train. Anything to delay going back to that empty house.
[Visual Cue: Outside the window—the city passes by. People rushing to work. Students in groups, laughing. Families at crosswalks. Life happening everywhere.]
She watches them.
Distant.
MIYUKI (Internal):
They all look so... real. I wonder what that feels like.
SCENE 6: PARALLEL ARRIVALS
AKITSU - KANEMORI HIGH SCHOOL - 7:52 AM
[Visual Cue: A modest public high school. Old building, chain-link fence, cherry blossom trees shedding petals. Students flood the gates.]
Akitsu walks through.
Unnoticed.
A ghost among the living.
STUDENT A:
Passing by, laughing.
"—and then he totally failed the test! It was hilarious!"
STUDENT B:
"No way!"
They don't see him.
He's used to it.
AKITSU (Internal):
Invisible. That's fine. Easier this way.
MIYUKI - SEIKA ACADEMY - 8:01 AM
[Visual Cue: A prestigious private academy. Modern glass buildings, manicured gardens, students in expensive uniforms. Everything screams "elite."]
The black car pulls up.
Miyuki steps out.
Immediately.
VOICE (High-pitched):
"MIYU-CHAN!!"
[Visual Cue: Three girls rush toward her. All beautiful, all dressed perfectly. These are the FAKE FRIENDS.]
REINA SAKAMOTO (18) - The ringleader. Long brown hair, sharp eyes hidden behind a sweet smile.
AYAKA FUJIMOTO (18) - The follower. Blonde highlights, always agreeing with Reina.
NATSUMI KITAGAWA (18) - The gossip. Black hair in a ponytail, always on her phone.
REINA:
Linking arms with Miyuki immediately.
"Oh my God, you look AMAZING! Is that the new jacket from that French brand?"
MIYUKI:
Switching on the mask. Bright smile.
"You like it? My mom sent it from Paris."
AYAKA:
"Your mom has the BEST taste!"
NATSUMI:
Scrolling on phone.
"Did you see Takumi posted about his party this weekend? We're obviously going, right?"
MIYUKI:
"Obviously."
MIYUKI (Internal):
I'd rather stay home and stare at the ceiling.
They walk into school together.
A perfect group.
A perfect lie.
ACT 3: THE SCHOOL DAY - CONTRASTS
SCENE 7: AKITSU'S CLASSROOM - 9:15 AM
[Visual Cue: A standard classroom. Wooden desks, chalkboard, windows overlooking the courtyard. Students chatting before class starts.]
Akitsu sits in the back corner.
By the window.
Alone.
He stares outside.
Cherry blossoms fall slowly.
AKITSU (Internal):
Dad used to say cherry blossoms were like time. Beautiful, but gone too fast. I get it now.
VOICE (Loud):
"AKITSUUUU!"
The door slams open.
[Visual Cue: AKITO TSUKIHARA (18) bursts in. Messy brown hair, bright grin, athletic build. He's the human embodiment of sunshine.]
AKITO:
Rushing over, throwing an arm around Akitsu's shoulders.
"Dude! You're here early!"
AKITSU:
Small smile.
"I'm always here early, Akito."
AKITO:
"And you're always by this window! You're like a sad anime protagonist!"
Behind him, another figure enters calmly.
[Visual Cue: KORAI ISHIDA (18). Short black hair, sharp eyes behind thin-frame glasses, quiet demeanor. He's observant, analytical.]
KORAI:
Sitting at the desk in front of Akitsu, turning around.
"Leave him alone. Not everyone needs to announce their presence like a natural disaster."
AKITO:
Mock offense.
"Korai! I'm a GIFT to this classroom!"
KORAI:
Deadpan.
"A gift we didn't ask for."
Akitsu actually laughs.
Small. Quiet.
But real.
AKITSU:
"You two never change."
AKITO:
Grinning, sitting on Akitsu's desk.
"And you never laugh enough! But seriously—did you check?"
AKITSU:
"...Check what?"
KORAI:
"The scholarship results. They're posted."
Silence.
AKITSU:
His heart skips.
"...I forgot."
AKITO:
"YOU FORGOT?! Dude! This is literally your future!"
KORAI:
"Let's go check. Now."
SCENE 8: MIYUKI'S CLASSROOM - 9:18 AM
[Visual Cue: A pristine, high-tech classroom. Interactive whiteboards, cushioned chairs, everything state-of-the-art.]
Miyuki sits near the front.
Surrounded.
REINA:
Leaning over.
"So I was thinking—this weekend, we should all go to that new rooftop bar in Roppongi!"
AYAKA:
"Oh my God, YES! I heard celebrities go there!"
NATSUMI:
"Do you think your dad could get us a VIP table, Miyu?"
All eyes on her.
Expectant.
MIYUKI:
That bright, empty smile.
"I'll ask."
MIYUKI (Internal):
I won't ask. I'll just pay for it myself and say he did. Like always.
REINA:
"You're the BEST, Miyu!"
The teacher enters.
Everyone scrambles to their seats.
TEACHER:
"Good morning, class. Before we begin, I have an announcement regarding university admissions..."
Miyuki's phone buzzes.
[TEXT MESSAGE - FATHER]:
"Spoke with Dean of Admissions. You're confirmed for Meikō University. Congratulations."
She stares at it.
No joy.
No pride.
Nothing.
MIYUKI (Internal):
I didn't earn this. I never earn anything.
SCENE 9: THE BULLETIN BOARD - 9:47 AM
[Visual Cue: School hallway. A crowd gathers around a bulletin board labeled "SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS."]
Akitsu stands at the back.
Heart pounding.
THUMP. THUMP. THUMP.
AKITO:
Pushing through the crowd.
"Excuse me! Coming through! Important business!"
KORAI:
Following quietly behind.
They reach the board.
Scan the list.
AKITO:
His eyes widen.
"...Holy shit."
KORAI:
Rare smile.
"There it is."
AKITO:
Turning, YELLING across the hall.
"AKITSU! GET OVER HERE!"
Students turn.
Akitsu walks forward slowly.
His hands are shaking.
[Visual Cue: Close-up of the list. Names in neat rows. Near the top:]
"HOSHIZORA AKIMITSU - FULL SCHOLARSHIP - MEIKŌ UNIVERSITY"
He stares.
Reads it again.
Again.
AKITSU (Internal):
Is this... real?
AKITO:
Grabbing his shoulders, shaking him.
"YOU DID IT! YOU ACTUALLY DID IT!"
KORAI:
Calm but proud.
"Of course he did. He's been studying like a madman for two years."
AKITO:
"We need to celebrate! After school! Let's—"
AKITSU:
Quiet.
"I have work."
AKITO:
His face falls.
"...Akitsu. Come on. Just this once—"
AKITSU:
Looking at him.
There's something in his eyes.
Gratitude. But also exhaustion.
"I can't. I... I need the money."
Silence.
KORAI:
Understanding.
"Then we'll celebrate at lunch. Our treat."
AKITSU:
Small smile.
"...Okay."
AKITSU (Internal):
I did it. Dad... I actually did it.
[Visual Cue: For just a moment, a flash—a memory. A man's silhouette, hand on young Akitsu's head, smiling warmly. MASAYOSHI HOSHIZORA. Then it fades.]
AKITSU (Internal):
I wish you were here to see this.
ACT 4: THE CLIFFHANGER - WORLDS APART, FEELINGS SHARED
SCENE 10: PARALLEL LUNCH BREAKS
AKITSU - SCHOOL ROOFTOP - 12:34 PM
[Visual Cue: Old rooftop. Chain-link fence, water tower, view of the modest neighborhood below. The three boys sit on the ground, convenience store benches between them.]
AKITO:
Mouth full of food.
"So! Meikō University! That's THE top school! You're gonna be surrounded by rich kids!"
AKITSU:
Eating quietly.
"...I know."
KORAI:
"Are you nervous?"
AKITSU:
"...Honestly? Terrified."
AKITO:
"Why?! You're brilliant!"
AKITSU:
"It's not about being smart. It's..."
He trails off.
AKITSU:
"Everyone there will be from a different world. Designer clothes. Family connections. Money. And I'll be... me."
KORAI:
Firm.
"You earned your place. They didn't."
AKITO:
"Exactly! You're going to show all those spoiled brats what REAL hard work looks like!"
AKITSU:
He wants to believe them.
He really does.
AKITSU (Internal):
But what if I don't belong there? What if I'm just... invisible there too?
MIYUKI - ACADEMY CAFÉ - 12:41 PM
[Visual Cue: A trendy, expensive school café. More like a restaurant. Students in designer uniforms, drinking imported drinks, eating gourmet meals.]
Miyuki sits with the fake friends.
They're all on their phones.
NATSUMI:
"Oh my God, look at this dress. Should I get it?"
AYAKA:
"YES! It would look so good on you!"
REINA:
Looking at Miyuki.
"You're quiet today, Miyu. Everything okay?"
MIYUKI:
Bright smile.
"Just tired! Late night studying."
Lie.
She was staring at her ceiling until 3 AM.
REINA:
"Ugh, you don't even need to study! Your dad already got you into Meikō!"
MIYUKI (Internal):
There it is. The reminder.
MIYUKI:
Laughing it off.
"Well, I still want to do well!"
REINA:
"You're so dedicated! That's why everyone loves you!"
MIYUKI (Internal):
No one loves me. They love my last name.
Her phone buzzes.
[TEXT MESSAGE - YUNA]:
"Rooftop. Now. Need to talk."
MIYUKI:
Standing.
"I'll be right back. Restroom."
She walks away.
The girls immediately start whispering.
SCENE 11: ROOFTOP ENCOUNTER (SEPARATE)
MIYUKI - ACADEMY ROOFTOP - 12:48 PM
[Visual Cue: Modern rooftop garden. Beautiful, maintained, peaceful. Cherry blossom trees in full bloom.]
Miyuki steps out.
[Visual Cue: YUNA KUROGANE (18) stands by the railing. Short, practical black hair, sharp eyes, wearing the same uniform but clearly not "wealthy." Her shoes are worn. Her bag is old but well-kept.]
YUNA:
Not turning around.
"You're late."
MIYUKI:
Walking over.
"Had to escape the vultures."
YUNA:
She turns, smirking.
"Still hanging with them?"
MIYUKI:
Tired.
"What choice do I have?"
YUNA:
"You always have a choice."
Silence.
Miyuki leans on the railing beside her.
MIYUKI:
"You heard about Meikō?"
YUNA:
"That your dad bought your way in? Yeah."
MIYUKI:
Flinching.
"...Yuna."
YUNA:
"I'm not judging. I'm just saying what everyone's thinking."
MIYUKI:
Quiet.
"I know."
YUNA:
Softer now.
"Do YOU want to go?"
MIYUKI:
"...I don't know what I want anymore."
YUNA:
She looks at her friend.
Really looks.
YUNA:
"You look exhausted."
MIYUKI:
Laughing bitterly.
"I am. Pretending is... really tiring."
YUNA:
"Then stop."
MIYUKI:
"It's not that simple."
YUNA:
"It never is."
They stand in silence.
Two girls.
One poor.
One rich.
Both lonely.
YUNA:
"For what it's worth... I got in too. Scholarship."
MIYUKI:
Eyes widening.
"Yuna! That's amazing!"
YUNA:
Small smile.
"Thanks. Maybe... maybe we can survive that place together."
MIYUKI:
For the first time today, a real smile.
"...Yeah. Maybe."
MIYUKI (Internal):
At least I'll have one real thing there.
ACT 4: EVENING - THE WEIGHT RETURNS
SCENE 12: AKITSU'S SHIFT - 6:47 PM
[Visual Cue: YAMADA SUPERMARKET. Small, local store. Fluorescent lights, narrow aisles, old linoleum floors. Not fancy. But honest.]
Akitsu stands behind the register.
His uniform is slightly too big.
[Visual Cue: The name tag reads "HOSHIZORA" in faded print.]
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
He scans items mechanically.
ELDERLY CUSTOMER:
"Thank you, young man."
AKITSU:
Polite smile.
"Have a good evening."
The customer leaves.
The store is empty now.
MR. YAMADA (65), the owner, walks over. Gruff exterior, kind heart.
MR. YAMADA:
"Heard about your scholarship."
AKITSU:
Surprised.
"How did—"
MR. YAMADA:
"Mrs. Hayashi talks. A lot."
He crosses his arms.
MR. YAMADA:
"That's a big deal, kid. Meikō University."
AKITSU:
"...Thank you, sir."
MR. YAMADA:
"You're gonna need new clothes. Textbooks. A laptop probably."
AKITSU:
His chest tightens.
"I... I'll figure it out."
MR. YAMADA:
"I'm giving you more hours. And a raise."
AKITSU:
"Sir, you don't have to"
MR. YAMADA:
Firm.
"Your old man helped me when I was about to lose this place. Lent me money. Didn't ask for anything back. I'm just... returning the favor."
AKITSU:
His eyes burn.
He won't cry.
He won't.
AKITSU:
Voice rough.
"...Thank you."
MR. YAMADA:
Patting his shoulder.
"Make him proud, kid."
AKITSU (Internal):
I'm trying. God, I'm trying.
SCENE 13: MIYUKI'S EVENING - 7:23 PM
[Visual Cue: The Ichijo mansion. Empty. Echoing. Miyuki walks through the hallways. Her heels click against marble.]
CLICK. CLICK. CLICK.
She reaches the kitchen.
[Visual Cue: On the counter, a plate covered in plastic wrap. A note beside it in Sachiko's handwriting: "Eat properly. -S"]
Miyuki smiles.
Small.
Sad.
She takes the plate to her room.
[Visual Cue: Her bedroom. She changes into comfortable clothes—oversized sweater, shorts. Removes her makeup. Puts on her glasses.]
She sits on the bed.
Eats alone.
The TV plays some drama in the background.
She's not really watching.
MIYUKI (Internal):
This is my life. Empty rooms. Empty conversations. Empty everything.
Her phone buzzes.
[TEXT MESSAGE - FATHER]:
"Won't be back this week. Emergency meeting in Hong Kong. Credit card has been refilled."
She doesn't respond.
Just stares at the message.
MIYUKI (Internal):
Money. Always money. Never time. Never... them.
She sets the plate aside.
Lies down.
Stares at the ceiling.
MIYUKI (Internal):
I wonder what it's like. To have someone actually THERE. To not feel so...
...alone.
SCENE 14: PARALLEL NIGHTS
[Visual Cue: Split screen. Left - Akitsu's apartment. Right - Miyuki's bedroom.]
LEFT - AKITSU:
He returns home at 10:47 PM.
Exhausted.
Opens the door quietly.
HINA:
Asleep on the couch, half-covered by a blanket. A crayon drawing beside her.
He walks over.
Picks her up gently.
She stirs.
HINA:
Sleepy.
"...Aki-nii?"
AKITSU:
Whisper.
"I'm home. Go back to sleep."
HINA:
"Did you bring apples?"
AKITSU:
"Yeah. We'll have them tomorrow."
HINA:
Tiny smile.
"I drew you at school today..."
She's already asleep again.
He carries her to the futon.
Tucks her in.
RIGHT - MIYUKI:
She's still awake.
Scrolling through social media.
Everyone's posts.
Happy faces.
Perfect lives.
All lies.
Just like hers.
LEFT - AKITSU:
He looks at the drawing Hina made.
[Visual Cue: Crayon drawing. Stick figures. Three people holding hands. Labels: "Mama" "Aki-nii" "Hina" and one figure above in the clouds: "Papa"]
His hand trembles.
AKITSU (Internal):
We're still here, Dad. We're still fighting. I hope... I hope that's enough.
RIGHT - MIYUKI:
She opens her camera roll.
Scrolls back.
Way back.
[Visual Cue: An old photo. Young Miyuki, maybe 8 years old, between her parents. They're all smiling. At a park. Normal. Happy.]
That was ten years ago.
MIYUKI (Internal):
When did it all become so empty?
FINAL SCENE: ONE SKY, TWO WORLDS
[Visual Cue: Night. The city sleeps. Camera pulls back, showing both locations from above. The small apartment and the massive mansion. Miles apart. But under the same starry sky.]
LEFT - AKITSU:
He sits by the window.
His mother and sister sleep peacefully behind him.
The soft sound of their breathing fills the small room.
INHALE. EXHALE.
He looks up at the stars.
They're faint tonight.
Light pollution from the city.
But still there.
AKITSU (Internal):
Meikō University. A new beginning. A chance to give them better lives.
His hands clench the scholarship letter.
AKITSU (Internal):
But I'm scared.
What if I don't fit in? What if I fail? What if—
He stops himself.
Takes a breath.
AKITSU (Internal):
No. I can't think like that. I've come too far. They've sacrificed too much.
He glances back at his sleeping family.
[Visual Cue: Minako's face, peaceful in sleep. Hina curled up like a kitten, her tiny hand clutching the stuffed rabbit.]
AKITSU (Internal):
I just need to stay invisible. Stay focused. Graduate. Get a good job.
Give Mom the medical care she deserves.
Send Hina to a good school.
That's all that matters.
He looks down at the scholarship letter on his lap.
The paper is slightly crumpled from how many times he's read it today.
AKITSU (Internal):
Dad... I wish you could tell me I'm doing the right thing.
I wish you could tell me I'm strong enough for this.
Because right now... I don't feel strong at all.
The stars twinkle.
Silent.
But somehow... comforting.
A memory surfaces.
[Visual Cue: FLASHBACK - Young Akitsu, maybe 8 years old, sitting on his father's shoulders. They're looking up at the night sky together.]
MASAYOSHI (Memory):
Voice warm, kind.
"See those stars, Akitsu? They look small from here, don't they?"
YOUNG AKITSU:
"Yeah..."
MASAYOSHI (Memory):
"But they're actually huge. Massive. Some of them are bigger than our entire world."
YOUNG AKITSU:
"Really?"
MASAYOSHI (Memory):
"Really. Just because something looks small... doesn't mean it is. Remember that, okay?"
[Visual Cue: BACK TO PRESENT - Akitsu's eyes are wet.]
He wipes them quickly.
AKITSU (Internal):
I remember, Dad.
I'll try to remember.
RIGHT - MIYUKI:
She stands on her balcony.
The night air is cool against her skin.
She's changed into an oversized sweater—one of the few things she owns that wasn't chosen by a designer or her mother's assistant.
The city lights spread below like fallen stars.
Beautiful.
Cold.
Distant.
MIYUKI (Internal):
Meikō University. Another stage. Another performance.
She leans against the railing.
MIYUKI (Internal):
More people to impress. More expectations to meet. More masks to wear.
How many masks can one person wear before they forget their own face?
She hugs herself against the night breeze.
MIYUKI (Internal):
Sometimes I wonder what it would be like... to just be normal.
To have a small room. A family dinner. Someone who actually cares if I come home.
To not feel so... hollow.
She looks up at the same stars.
They're harder to see from here.
Too much artificial light.
But they're there.
Somewhere.
MIYUKI (Internal):
Is there anyone out there who feels this empty too?
Or am I the only one drowning in a life everyone else would kill for?
The wind carries cherry blossoms past her balcony.
Pink petals dancing in the darkness.
She watches them fall.
Fragile.
Beautiful.
Gone.
MIYUKI (Internal):
Beautiful. But gone too fast.
Just like everything real in my life.
Her phone buzzes on the balcony table.
She doesn't look.
Probably Reina.
Or Ayaka.
Or Natsumi.
Asking about weekend plans.
Asking to borrow something.
Asking for connections.
Always asking.
Never caring.
MIYUKI (Internal):
I could disappear tomorrow and they'd only notice because there's no one left to use.
Another memory.
[Visual Cue: FLASHBACK - Young Miyuki, maybe 7 years old, in a beautiful dress at a party. Adults everywhere. She's alone in a corner, holding a juice box.]
YOUNG MIYUKI:
Tugging on her mother's dress.
"Mama... can we go home?"
MIYUKI'S MOTHER:
Not even looking down, talking to another wealthy woman.
"Not now, Miyuki. Mama's busy. Go play with the other children."
YOUNG MIYUKI:
"But I don't know them..."
MIYUKI'S MOTHER:
Irritated now.
"Then introduce yourself. You're an Ichijo. Act like it."
[Visual Cue: Young Miyuki's face. Confused. Hurt. Alone.]
[Visual Cue: BACK TO PRESENT - Miyuki's expression is unreadable.]
MIYUKI (Internal):
I've been acting ever since.
[Visual Cue: SPLIT SCREEN - Both Akitsu and Miyuki, on opposite sides of the city, looking up at the same sky.]
AKITSU (Internal):
Tomorrow, I'll work another shift.
Then I'll come home.
Help Mom with dinner.
Play with Hina.
Study for final exams.
Prepare for a future I'm terrified of.
But I'll do it.
Because that's all I know how to do.
MIYUKI (Internal):
Tomorrow, I'll put on my uniform.
My makeup.
My smile.
I'll say the right things.
Laugh at the right moments.
Be the perfect girl everyone expects.
Because that's all I know how to do.
[Visual Cue: Camera pulls back further. The two figures—Akitsu by his window, Miyuki on her balcony—both looking up at the same sky. Neither knowing the other exists. Yet both feeling the same loneliness. The same question. The same silent wish.]
NARRATION (Poetic, soft):
Under one sky, two worlds spin in silence.
One drowning in the absence of everything.
One drowning in the abundance of nothing.
Both gasping for the same thing—
Something real.
Something true.
Someone who sees them.
Not the mask they wear.
Not the shadow they cast.
But the person underneath.
The one who's tired.
The one who's lonely.
The one who wonders...
"Is this all there is?"
[Visual Cue: The stars above them. Constant. Unchanging. Watching.]
NARRATION (Continued):
They don't know it yet...
But their worlds are about to collide.
And when they do...
Everything they thought they knew about themselves—
About each other—
About what it means to truly live—
Will shatter like glass.
And from those pieces...
Something new will begin.
[Visual Cue: A single cherry blossom petal falls between the split screen, bridging the two worlds for just a moment before the screen fades to black.]
WHOOOOSH.
Silence.
Then—
The sound of a train in the distance.
CLACK-CLACK. CLACK-CLACK.
Moving forward.
Always forward.
Toward tomorrow.
Toward the unknown.
Toward each other.
[Visual Cue: Black screen. White text appears:]
"Sometimes the person you need most..."
"...is living a life you can't imagine."
"And they're searching for someone just like you."
[Visual Cue: The text fades. Replaced by:]
