In reviewing the first chapter . . .

". . . I really enjoyed your story so far. I love your writing style and liked how intimate the relationship between the reader and Nichol was. If there was one thing I could suggest that you do it would be to try slowing things down a bit. I'd like to get to know the characters a little slower, not all at once. I'd like to see how Nichol think and how she acts, but not all in the first chapter. Otherwise, I think this is a really great story, and I can't wait to finish reading it!"

" I appreciate the directness of feelings expressed, and although there is sometimes a little cliche in it, the feeling always feel genuine and authentic. I recommend it to everyone who likes a good read. Especially to young people who need to know that adults have feelings too and can even be broken down sometimes. "

"Page 105 is a cute love story. It is written very simplistically, which makes it easier to connect with the characters, I think, and proves to make the writing voice clear and effective. My main critique would be that I think the writer could've developed some characters a lIttle better. I feel that the side characters, such as Nichol's father, should be delved into a little more. I also think Johnnie is slightly underdeveloped at times, which takes from the story a bit. All in all though, a good effort."

Cute Romance

"I really enjoyed reading the book and the characters were really adorable. You have done a very great job in plotting the novel. But when it comes to charactets you could do more with describing them. Nichol's character was presented clearly, though Johnnie's had a bit lacking. He was really cute in his relationship though it was presented as his first time. I loved his character and it could be presented with more clarity so that he makes a unique character. Meanwhile, I really like the choice of words and descriptions you made. I had a great read! Thanks : )"

Love it!

"I decided to review the first chapter, because it's the most important. The first chapter is where you entice your readers to keep reading, draw them into the story, and introduce the main protagonist. And you did all of these things. You have an amazing voice and a way of making the main character's personality show through every line. To improve, I would probably remove the parenthesis from one or two sentences, and switch a couple other sentences to make it more clear who's speaking. Other then that, I would snatch this book from a store quicker than you could say "in love"."

"It's an endearing love story, simple in its plot but with a sweetness that keeps you turning the pages. Nichol is a great well-layered witty character, I would work on building the personalities of some of the supporting cast a little more, but they are all still interesting in their own way. The relationship between Nichol and Johnnie is compelling enough make you want to see how it will all play out, although at moments it feels slightly gooey. Well done."

Good, but very genred and a bit rushed

"I don't normally read straight romance, so forgive me if some of my comments don't make sense. Firstly, I would love more character development, particularly with characters who aren't Nichol, such as her father and even Johnnie feels under-developed at times. The story in general as well as specific internal storylines, such as some conflicts, feel really rushed which causes some of the realisticness of the story to dissipate. While you tried to introduce some other components, Page 105 remains very much a love story and some of the introduced drama almost felt irrelevant. Finally, why is the book called Page 105? I understand that it is a draw from the "bookstore romance" theme but the number seems a little random and I kept expecting something to come up and tie the title in. I still very much enjoyed this book, however, so thank you for pointing me to it!"

Amorously Immersive

"Wonderful, light romance that takes place in a different country then my own. Loved reading about Nichol, and her adventures. It seems like a pathway back into the teenage mind; Back when you found yourself changing everyday, and everything was fresh and new. I think all this story needs is some more events, and characters in between the lovely, gooey developing romance between Nichol and her love. Overall, I'm excited to see what happens next."

Butterflies in the Stomach

"The story has an endearing touch to it. For all those who love reading light romance that builds up, it is something to check out. It is nice cause they actually took steps from being friends and entering into that couple domain. Nichol's character is easy to relate with and you can get a good glimpse of what she is like in the first few chapters. I do want to see more of character development and background for Johnnie. It would also be nice if you can add more scenes with the two of them getting in depth discussions about their issues such as Nichol's father. These kind of scenes will help their character growth and I feel like it would add more spice to the story. Over all, I enjoyed reading it. :)"

Lovely

"Firstly, so you know, I don't usually read this genre. I do think this story is very age specific, YA; whereas some YA can tip over into adult. It is quite a lovely story describing the protagonists love affair with books as well as a blossoming love for a young man. Some of the dialogue is a little stilted in parts, but can easily be dealt with - for example, Chapter 21, the three way conversation between Johnnie, Nathan and Nichol is a wee bit confusing and loses it's realism - if you add more dynamics; explosions of emotion (they are teenagers after all), descriptions of Nichols internal dialogue in more depth, would open it out more. I like the character of Nichol, her self-deprecating, slightly sarky nature - more of that would add colour to this character. This is a girl with a pretty sharp wit, has learned to be self-contained, loves literature, is a loner - possibly she could use quotes from books she has read as a defence mechanism? I didn't know teens discussed sex before they had it, these days, but it's nice to read that they don't all just get drunk and go for it (I'm from England too!!) Not sure where the story arc is going, but maybe needs a little more 'action' earlier (no, not sex!) I would also like to see more contrast between her love of books and her growing love of people. Some editing and polishing will bring this to a satisfying finish."

Needs Work

"Your blurb gets to the point but at the same time doesn't say much about the story or the characters. Try giving a brief summary of your overall story or write a quote in the teaser. Romantic lines usually help. This story is just starting so I can't say much of it. There's not much dialogue and while I liked the beginning the main character gives too much of an explanation. At times there's a feel that she's a bit to comfortable and casual when she thinks. You want the reader to be comfortable with your character and watch the character grow. When I say she was a bit too comfortable and casual it felt like she was just having too many runaway thoughts. Be a bit more expressive with her emotions, let the readers know how she feels. The part about her not being good with people is great but it was emphasized in the same way too many times and felt crammed in the first two chapters. Try to be more descriptive with your scenes and characters. This is a new story so I can't give an overall rating based on three chapters. What I can say is that I do have a bit of a feel as to where it is the author wants to take the story. The things I mentioned could be improved over time and with practice. What this story needs is a bit of polish and a few more chapters so people can get a feel of the characters."
