The Boy who Vanishes

Aurora - who was tired after a long day - was walking slowly steadily towards her room no. 316 in the girls' flat. No wonder she was hoping to get a nice roommate after that fight with the popular girl.

She opened the door with roughly any energy only to find the popular girl in that room being her roommate. Their faces froze immediately. With no other choice, Aurora slowly walked towards her bed at the left side, full of velvet colours - a velvet bed, light purple wall and a black table and shelf.

The girl aggressively came to Aurora and asked, "Who are you?", with a frightened look.

"The person who'll mess with your arrogance.", answered Aurora.

The girl frowned. "Do you know who I am?"

Aurora smirked - "Lysandra Virelle Duskthorne - the girl who acts like she's the best, yet to only look like a coward."

Their interaction slowly got larger.

Both of them getting closer and aggressive.

"This is my side. No one dares to come here. All of the roommates I have been with were forced to take another one if they misbehave. You better be in your limits. It is good for your future.", she warned.

Aurora was trying to speak up for herself, meanwhile a short emerald eye coloured blonde-haired figure walked towards them.

"Good evening you both. I am this flat's warden. My name is Laura Mitchell. I will be looking upon you all here. As you are living here, there are some rules and regulations to be followed for the well-being of your future and the society.

  1. No music after 10pm!
  2. All the lights except bed lights should be turned off by 11pm!
  3. This is the most important - No boys ever in this flat!

If y'all don't follow these strictly, there would be a severe punishment. Any doubts...!"

Aurora asked, "Could I.... by any chance.... have an opportunity to switch my roommate?"

"Umm...No, that's not possible for anyone. You have to be with the roommates assigned by the school.", Mrs. Laura answered.

"Could -", Lysandra was about to ask while Mrs. Laura interrupted, "Okay, no more doubts.", and walked away.

"Back to where we were.... you don't enter my side and I'll not enter yours.", Lysandra abrupted.

Aurora sighed and went to her side to renovate it while Lysandra went out to her 'best friends' whom Lysandra always hated and thought of dumping them in any chance she would get.

Aurora always dreamt of a nice velvet room full of posters. But this room - was like a half purple and a half white. She took out her posters of Blackpink and Doom at Your Service K-drama and stuck them on the wall in a nice heart pattern.

She was a huge fan of Blackpink. And her favourite K-drama was Doom at Your Service. She liked it so much that she watched it for 20 times. She was lost in the chemistry of Myul Mang and Tak Dong-Kyung.

Her bias in Blackpink was Kim Jennie. Aurora always wanted to be like her - confident, happy, strong, kind and to have self-confidence.

Her dream man must have the personalities of Myul Mang in Doom at Your Service - a person who cares about her, who could sacrifice even.... even his life to her.

After sticking all those posters, she got a little bit tired and went to bed to sleep.

After some time, Lysandra came to the room. She went to wash her face after all that has happened that day to go to sleep. But something deeper was keeping her awake.

She woke up again in midnight to go get water to sleep peacefully.

The bed lights near Aurora.... they started flickering the whole night.

Lysandra saw this.

She walked towards Aurora to wake her up.

But.... but her ego.

It stopped her to go to the other side of the room.

All of a sudden, she noticed a shadow standing behind Aurora.

Her heart pounded. She screamed and ran back to her bed. Nervously turning to the other side.

She thought that she could do it, "Lysandra, you can do it!"

She got out of the bed chanting, "Be brave", and was planning to fight back whatever the reason is.

Taking slow and steady steps towards Aurora.... she saw a tall guy at the side of Aurora. She couldn't see his face as he covered it with a black cloth.

"You... Wh... Who... Ahhh!", she screamed.

Within a blink of a second, he vanished. No trace... No idea of who he is... He just... just vanished into the air.

Lysandra was sure that she saw a man.

She just couldn't... couldn't prove it.

She was startled by Aurora still sleeping in her bed like a sleeping beauty. "No wonder her parents kept her the name Aurora, they knew she was such a sleepy girl.", she muttered within herself.

Lysandra went back to bed but no sleep at all. Just nightmares and relentless thinking of what it was.

The sunlight shined bright from the windows of their room. It was understood that the night has passed already and the girls should wake up.

Aurora did and Lysandra too. Lysandra immediately asked Aurora, "Do you have any male friends?"

"Why?... Let me guess! You want to take their attention all by yourself. Is that correct? That will never ever happen.", Aurora said effortlessly.

"Just please answer the question!", she shouted.

"Okay okay.... NO, I haven't made any friends yet...", and they both hanged onto going to school.

Aurora wanted to go to school as fast as possible. She wanted to see Kai. She just couldn't.... forget him. He has been running in her mind from a long time. She wanted to ask him whether they know each other before. But when she sees him, the words fly away and she couldn't think of anything at that time.

She was on her way to class thinking about him.

As for her luck, he came approaching her but... with a concerning way.

"Please don't fight with anybody. Your anger could destroy-"

"Destroy what? Am I a superhero or something? You guys are crazy these days!", she interrupted within him.

"No... nothing... just that it could destroy... uh... your discipline. Your discipline within this school.", his voice cold, deeper than before. It felt like he was hiding something.

She continued walking towards her class when their hands touched over the fingertips. Aurora felt this touch was something that she knew before. Something that was precious to her but just couldn't remember or recall it.

"Sorry... sorry", Kai approached her.

"It's okay"

"No, no, sorry I didn't mean to...", he said.

"Kev... I mean Kai, no need to think of it that much. It's just that our hands touched... that too only on fingertips.", she smiled and walked away.

She took it easy, but he was sorry for it.

In the middle of class, Aurora was wishing that Kai was her section, but he was another section. "Thinking of Kai, why was I calling him with another name.... his name is Kai right.", she thought to herself.

"Aurora, it's just a mispronunciation", she confronted herself, "Don't overthink this too".

She recalled that scene again in her thoughts. She found that he was blushing when she called him with another name.

To relieve this confusion, she went to the washroom as soon as the short interval was announced.

She saw herself in the mirror, "I am blushing too!", she whispered to herself in a confusion.

She walked towards her class in a shocked face. While passing Kai's section, she searched if he was there, but it seems that he was not there.

She went to her bench and lied her head on it, but surprisingly, her bench was full of writings that said 'AK'.

She went to another girl sitting alone and grabbed her to show this. When she asked what it is, she said, "Nothing is written on that bench!"

Aurora took a closer look, and nothing was written... not even a single pen mark was on it.

She couldn't believe her eyes.

In a shock, she turned her head towards the class board and saw a guy covering his face in front of it.

And within a blink, he disappeared. He vanished within the air.

She felt like it was bizarre. She just wanted to be happy. But this... it really left her speechless.

The bell rang as it should.

She was exhausted, her mind still reeling from things no one was meant to witness, and all she wanted was to go to her room as soon as possible.

Her steps felt heavier for her than the last taken steps. When suddenly, a 5'9 tall red-haired guy popped up from nowhere and gave a hand to Aurora.

"I am Rowan Hale. I too am studying in the same class as you but in 'A' section where my dear friend Kai seems to study too. By any chance.... Do you seem to know Kai?", he said, with a laughter that he was trying to hold up.

And before he could say anything else, Kai dragged him.... pulled him in from the corner of his classroom.

"Seriously, what is wrong with these guys? They're messing with my head from the early morning. And Kai.... what's gotten into him?", Aurora thought for a second and left from there.

She reached her room, took a nice hot shower and got onto her desk to complete her assigned work for the week. But she couldn't.... something has been keeping her mind distracted from the work she was supposed to do. And that has been keeping her one step away from achieving success.

Lysandra came to the room too. They both didn't open their mouth, not even a single word between them both.

Darkness settled in faster than she realized. Exhausted, Lysandra slowly fell asleep meanwhile Aurora was still working. She gave up for the night and was about to go to bed. While packing her books, she saw it...

A book titled 'THE MARK' which she bought from her home that was never opened by her.

She took a peek into that book.

Her hands trembling. She feels something strange.

She found out that slightly most of the pages were torn away except one.... And that one page had something in it which was not supposed to be seen by her.
