Chapter 1

New York, 2014. It was 5 past 6 P.M. when James Moriarty received a mail from Dr. John Watson. It seems like he expected to receive a letter from Watson sooner or later but he didn’t know what it was about. As he picked up the letter and walked to his fireplace. He looked outside his window beside the fireplace, a cold winter day in New York it was, with the cold breeze flowing and hit of snowfall, it was few days before Christmas. He stood by this window watching people with family and friends in the streets, living the Christmas spirit, shopping for gifts for their loved ones, the streets were ablaze from the decoration for Christmas and there were Christmas trees decorated in every nook and corner of the street as far as his eyesight could reach, there were kids dressed up as Santa. Although it was getting dark, the fireworks brighten up the sky like the morning sun.

“It was just a few years back on the same day before the Christmas when he had Watson trapped and was ready to go for the kill and shake Sherlock mentally. The Monarch of Organized crime, who brought London to its knees is alone at home with no friends and families around”- he thought to himself.

Over the years Moriarty had grew calm and had no grudges for anyone, he was having time of his life, with all the money he had earned from consulting criminal business. He was able to buy himself an apartment at the heart of Time Square.

“Foolish Sherlock, he might still be stuck at 221B with his roommate, inside that Pig Farm. If only he would have joined forces with me, he could have all the richness in the world and we could have been unstoppable” –he thought to himself as he walks up to his study to grab a paper cutter and open up the envelope he received from Watson earlier today.

“Dear, James Moriarty.

I wish you a warm and a blessed Christmas and hope you have a prosperous year ahead.

Dr. John H. Watson”

It’s then he gets the flashback of his time at London and the smoke and mirror game, Sherlock and he played with each other. Though he won most of the battle among them, in the end, Sherlock won the war, maybe it was a draw.

He remembers the time of when he first met Sherlock, it wasn’t a meeting actually, it was more of playing games to keep him motivated to the core. Though his arch-nemesis and tried to kill him whenever it got boring, he was actually fond of Sherlock for his intellectual capabilities, as Sherlock was able to solve almost all of the tricks Moriarty pulled at him with the help of the network he possessed, it made him more interested towards Sherlock, it is when he decides to give Sherlock a time frame to solve crimes. He finally decides to meet Sherlock in disguise which Sherlock wrongly deduce, he later meets Sherlock by taking Watson as a hostage although he has both of them cornered and ready to kill, telling them ‘I can’t let you continue anymore’ but he leaves them to be as he is interrupted by a phone call, and the game with Sherlock continues until their last meet at the Reichenbach when they both decide to play the final game. Since the Reichenbach where they both fake their death with the fall and never came face to face with each other ever again.

“Have Sherlock gone missing again?” It was the first thought that came into his mind. Although an arch-nemesis of Sherlock Holmes. Both have respect for each other and that was the sole reason both didn’t kill each other.

“Maybe it was Sherlock who sends me the telegram and used Dr. Watson’s signature and playing mind games with me asking me to make a return. The level of crime in London was declining and Sherlock was stuck solving petty crimes for the Scotland Yard after I staged my death at the Reichenbach.

Moriarty couldn’t help but sympathize with Sherlock, once a great detective and an internet sensation thanks to Watson’s blogs now solving death threats and murders such a waste.” – He thought to himself.

“I will give them a visit and end it for once and for all”.

And he picks up his jacket and stomps out of the door.

“Taxi” - Moriarty scream trying to stop one.

“To where sir?” – the driver asked.

“JFK International”

“Where you headed to from the airport?”

To London.

“Visiting family for Christmas?”

No, to settle the score.

At London, Dr. Watson receives a telephone call who still lives at 221B, Bakers street from an unknown man 3 days before Moriarty receives the letter around 9 O’clock in the evening.

“Is it done, Doctor?”

It’s done – Watson replies

“You know what to do next?”

I am on it.

And the unknown man hung up the call.

Watson who was pretty stressed since last few months now had a smile on his face, that smile of joy you can see in someone after they have won a hard battle.

Present day, around 9 P.M Watson co-ordinate Mary and Molly to be at 221B at 11 A.M. sharp.

It’s 10:50 A.M. Mycroft walks into the room, playing with the walking stick he always carry but today he looked tense. The man who was arguably the most powerful man in the U.K. looked tensed. As he walked through the door, he greeted Watson.

“Doctor”

“Mycroft”

“Aren’t they here yet?” – Mycroft asked.

Not yet, they will probably be in sometime.

“Good then we have few minutes to talk about the plan”

Are you sure what we are doing is right?

“It may not be but that’s the only hope we have”

Mycroft decides to linger around the room like he was looking for something after five minutes or so he settles down at Sherlock’s recliner and goes into the thought of his own.

“They are here, I heard steps of two people walking. It’s probably Mary and Molly”

It runs in the family – Watson thought to himself.

As Marry and Molly walk in, the look at Mycroft a greet.

“Ladies please take a seat; we have something important to discuss” – says Mycroft.

“What is it?” – Marry ask.

“You will know in time, have patience” – Mycroft replies.

“Why don’t you go ahead and call Mrs. Hudson too? I think she deserves to know about it after all she is like a family too” – Mycroft tells Watson.

“I will go call her”. – Molly replies as she walks downstairs to call Mrs. Hudson.

A few minutes later, Molly and Mrs. Hudson walks in with a pot full of tea 5 teacups.

They sit there talking and sipping tea.

Mary and Watson are already divorced and are seen sitting in the corner by the fireplace talking about trying a divorce counselor, which Mary declines.

“You think a lot, John. You have always been like this” – Mary says.

There is no harm in trying a counselor, don’t you think?

“We don’t need a counselor; we are doing well even after divorce. Don’t you think?” – Says Mary.

“You should move back to our house; we can share it as a flatmate.” – Molly tells Watson.

I am good here – Watson replies.

“There is no point talking to you, you never listen. You just do what you want to. You are selfish Mr. Watson” – Mary says as she gets up to walk away from Watson and walk towards Mrs. Hudson and Molly who are sitting in the sofa by the wall that Sherlock once used to sit his clients, that green sofa and talk about life and work.

“How are you doing, Mrs. Hudson” – asks Molly.

Can’t complain.

“You ladies should try to visit this old lady more often” – says Mrs. Hudon.

“How is the baby?” Molly asks Mary.

He is doing good; he now has a tooth in his upper jaw.

He is growing up pretty fast.

Watson is still sitting there by the fireplace when he finally decides to get up and walk towards Mycroft who is sitting in Sherlock’s recliner drinking his tea and lost in his own thoughts. As Watson take his sit next to Mycroft.

Mycroft suddenly gets up straight and order Mrs. Hudson “Mrs. Hudson can you grab some more tea and get an extra cup too”.

“Mr. Holmes you know I am the owner and don’t work here right?” – Mrs. Hudson reply.

“But an extra cup for whom?” – Mrs. Hudson questions.

“He is here”. – Mycroft exclaims.

Mary is the first to react “Who is here Mr. Holmes?”

“The East Wind” – Mycroft replies.

And tension builds up in everyone’s face.

Mycroft sits down after the announcement.

Watson gets up, “It’s best to stand nearby”. He thinks to himself.

Mary still in her place and curious to see who walks in next.

Mrs. Hudson picks up the teapot and runs downstairs to grab a cup and fetch some tea, Molly runs after her as soon as they hear Mycroft’s statement.

“The East Wind is Here”.
