"Pros: Well, just to start with, this story has all the classic RPG elements in place. If you have been gaming for years, you will be right at home with the story. I usually have a hard time remembering characters and their names, who they are, and why they are even here. Not with this story, The characters are lively, to say the least, each memorable in its own right. The set pieces are great; the shifting house is great! Cons: Lengthy and wordy. The descriptions are great (and mostly why I can remember them). The chapters are long. This is about the only bump I can see in the writing style. Overall: Has a good start to the series. You can find comedy, love, and villains getting a bit of Karama rewards. I will be reading the next as well."

Plot with Roots to Grow a Series
"The Last Magus (Book One) by Mavericks Ghost, is the first story in a Series about Joe Winstanton, a fellow who discovers he can use and control magical energy. The fact that he has a 400 foot long Dragon to help him is a nice plus. The characters, both male and female, are engaging and easily liked or disliked by the reader. It appears that the Author has a firm distaste for bankers, specifically, and banks in general. The story is engaging if somewhat long in the telling. I found myself thoroughly enjoying Joe’s learning process and the results of magic use. I will admit to speed reading through some of the chatter that the Author employed to make the characters ‘relatable’ to the reader. Based upon the fundamental premise of the Book, it appears the Last Magus, Joe Winstanton, will be forced to face an ultimate foe, the currently sleeping Demon known as Ghord. The Preface and first chapter of the Last Magus is an encyclopedia of the history of the Universe and what happened to Ghord. There is little if any dialogue in the beginning the Book, and I was curious about when or if the Author would begin some dialogue between his characters. The Author has chosen a writing style that leaves very little to the reader’s imagination. I found the extreme detail of conversations and private thoughts of the characters a little disconcerting. It’s as if the Author felt the reader wouldn’t be engaged with the story unless every detail was laid out in painstaking descriptions. One thing I did find problematic was a lack of punctuation in places I thought needed it. I want to read further into the series to see what The Last Magus discovers as he searches the World for the Towers of the Schools of Magic. I rate the book, The Last Magus, as an overall 3.5 out of 5. "
Incredibly Absorbing
"The novel ends abruptly. One is left wondering what happened thereafter🙃 And what May's Big Secret which is mentioned many times? And why Draco doesn't accompany Joe on his journey to the Tower? I'm dismayed at so many things unanswered. Otherwise it is a page turner and very expertly developed atmosphere and characters. "

"This was a great read. The world-building and characters? Oh my word, I could feel myself being amongst them. Brilliant. The characters are well developed and the descriptions are great, not overwhelming (which is often the case in other stories). Great job!"

"The book starts off with a huge exposition. It does question reality, which makes it interesting, but I feel like it would have had a better place if it was integrated with a character or a situation. If it was inspired from some event. Having a whole explanation of the world standing on its own without any other context makes it a bit hard to grasp. I like lengthy descriptions, but the paragraphs could be shorter. Overall, the story has all the elements of a classic magical-adventure-esque book, and the characters don't disappear into the words."

"It took me longer than expected to read this book but that part is on me. Well written book that kept me turning pages in excitement for the next thing to happen. I like the characters and the plot very much and IAM about to start the second book now. I can't wait to read what happens next."
What I think after reading chapters 1-3
"Well I wasn't a fan, I'm sorry, I just wasn't. I was happy when I finally reached the 40th page. Let me start by saying the description gave didn't describe the story, I was expecting something totally different. Or maybe I didn't reach that part in the story. Chapter 1 could (and should) be shortened down to a paragraph or 2. You pose interesting questions, but it goes on for too long. Chapter 2 and 3 aren't bad, but it's all very wordy, I had to force myself to keep reading because I didn't find it that interesting. You write like a conspiracy nut. Also your grammar needs some serious work, but that can be said for a lot of people, myself included. All in all, not a story I would ever read more than I have to. Sorry if this review was mean. but at least you know it was honest."
