Chapter 1

The Silence of Sound

He looked fine. It was his first day at school and he only wanted to sit down.

“HEY!” screamed two siblings from across the hall.

“…” he wished this wouldn’t have happened. The quietness that held him in his life once again was pushed down. He tried to ignore the twins and remain as he was.

“Hey, I’m talking to you” she said. A girl that had long black hair looked down at him. She seemed to be around the age of sixteen; Sound was unable to hear her but, he noticed her because of the vibrations that he felt from her voice.

“What’s wrong, cat got your tongue?” her brother asked bluntly. He was quite tall with large hands that could be seen from a mile away. His short gray hair made up for a contrast between him and his sister.

Sound took out his pen and paper, he wrote on it for a minute while the girl and her twin brother stood there feeling bad for the mistake that they made. As he wrote, the two humans had apologized thinking that Sound might have hated them now, but their thoughts were quite the opposite.

“Hello, people. I am Sound. I must say that I am both mute and deaf, but even though I can’t hear you allow me to share my notebook with you and we can write to each other. By the way since you are siblings…” he had stopped writing there. The two looked at each other in confusion. They started talking to each other than the brother left to go say hello to his friends…

“Hello, I am Azura” she wrote on his paper.

“I think that is quite a wonderful name” Sound wrote on his page. He really wanted to stop writing though he wondered what the point of making a friend was when he could just watch others from a-far. His heart was never quiet, all of the questions and thoughts he had were answered by books and opinions of authors that somehow became his own.

Azura picked up his notebook and she noticed that the title above was “People I Talk With,” but the conversation that they were having was the first page in his notebook. The emptiness of the notebook filled the silence that was in the mind of Sound, Azura had watched him and noticed that his eyes were gray and without color.

“AZURA! get over here, an old friend wants to meet you” yelled Azura’s brother. He waved over with glee at his sister and her eyes lit up from seeing a familiar face that filled the other half of the room with overwhelming brightness.

“Huh… It can’t be. IT’S really you,” Azura said with such passion and joy that she flipped over her chair and ran over to give her friend a hug. She held her friend with open arms, leaving the new kid to his own life and didn’t notice the thing in the corner that had dead eyes, ears, and a broken voice.

A girl with long white hair embraced her friend with a comforting love that seemed to genuine for any normal human. Silence had entered the room.
