Chapter 1
Justin Westbrook
Spinning around my desk chair I debated doing my homework or reading my new book. I chose to read my new book. The homework was easy and not as exciting, this book was about a girl who met an assassin and his pet tiger. The tiger was actually a trained assassin too, who could track people from miles away, and the girl was as innocent as ever. I love these cheesy, simple girl-complicated guy stories.
Yes, I’m a guy, no. I’m not gay, despite my brothers teasing.
Before long, the sun was rising over the horizon. Reminding me of my unfinished homework, I groaned and closed my book, sliding it into my bag as I finished up my homework. Me and my brother have two different dads, his dad taught him how to approach girls and how to fix stuff, he’s the ladies man. I’m the Harvard grad and proud, even if I look like my old chevy impala ran me over. My dad taught me a woman’s feelings matter, to not mess with them because some of them are dangerous.
So he bought me books and video games, made sure I was on top of my work and had a decent job. He never worried about me getting tied up in the drama, or getting someone pregnant. That’s what he worries about with Trevor, my brother.
Walking down the stairs with my bag on my shoulder, I saw a blonde girl on Trevor’s lap, making out furiously. I gagged as I grabbed my glasses and put them on, my friends say I look like Shane Dawson’s gay friend, what’s his name...? Garrett Watts! That’s his name, but I was a lot skinner with bright blue eyes and tanned skin, the only common thing I had with him was round glasses, love of harry potter, and curly hair.
“Justin!” I heard my mom shout and I walked into the kitchen, pecking her on the cheek. “Have a girlfriend yet?” She asked and I laughed humorlessly.
“No ma’am, I don’t, too busy with work, friends, and school for a girlie,” I told my mom and she shook her head but smiled.
“It’ll pay off Justin, just wait and see, you don’t hurt people, you appreciate them.” She patted my shoulder and after I helped her make breakfast I walked to say goodbye to my dad. Trevor and his girl were whispering, she looked at me and giggle.
“He’s so weird! How are you related to each other?” She whispered and pain struck in my heart but I ignored it as I walked up the stairs.
“Son!” My dad said, I knew they were proud of me, that’s all that matters, right? “What’s wrong?” He asked, my dad was a softie, not one of those guys that tell you to toughen up, he wants you to show emotions, that’s how I was raised. My heart on my sleeve.
“Nothing, dad, just coming to say bye.” He nodded hugging me, I hugged him back and left, going into my maroon colored chevy, we aren’t rich but my dad bought me a chevy impala. I was super duper happy, I mean it’s a car!
Trevor’s friends bought him a Camaro. I didn’t care, we both have cars, and if mine gets a dent, I get the money I can spend that won’t go to the car, it’s ugly so why bother fixing it?
I drove into school parking behind the cafeteria, my school serves breakfast and lunch, and I’m here an hour earlier than when it starts so I can make sure all my work is done and can prepare for the day. It’s not bad just so boring.
Julia arrived a few minutes later, plucking my book from my hands. Orion, her asshole boyfriend, trailed behind her. “Justin!” She said excitedly, wrapping her arms around my neck, “How was your weekend?” She asked and I shrugged, with a smile, same as normal.
“Why do you read so much?” Orion asked, flipping through my book.
“Nothing better, people are boring or asses,” I explained taking my book back, he nodded in agreement, right.
“Get a girlfriend.” He stated as if it were something easy.
“Right, lemme go get one real quick, I got a few hanging for me,” I muttered under my breath, as I crossed my arms. Great, I’m pouting. Orion chuckled, knowing he hit a nerve.
I’ve never had sex, surprise. I’ve had a few kisses but they were sloppy and awkward.
Orion left and Julia and I talked for a while until Skyla, Katerina, Patrick, and John showed up. This was pretty much my circle, the guys thought I was funny and the girls looked at me as one of they’re own. No wonder Trevor thinks I’m gay.
“Juussstiiinnnn,” Skyla whined, snapping my attention to her puppy brown eyes.
“Whhhhaaattt?” I whined back, she laid her head on my shoulder, hugging me from behind, I continued to read my book.
“We’re going to Patrick’s after school, coming?” She asked I sighed looking around, they were smiling at me, waiting.
“Fine,” I huffed, she clapped moving my hands away as she sat in my lap, locking her arms around my neck. We are very close and people think we are dating, but we aren’t. She’s way out of my league.
“I’ll see you in third,” She said kissing my cheek as she stood taking her bag and walking with Katerina to her class.
“She totally likes you,” Patrick said slapping my shoulder, I choked on air, sounding like a dying goose.
“Boy please,” I scoffed, wiping my throat from the brutal cough.
“Bruh, she just sat in your lap and kissed you, dude,” Patrick stated his jaw hanging loose.
“We’re just friends,” I told him, Skyla does things like that all the time. “She flirts with everyone, slept with them too.” Patrick nodded in agreement John laughed, he and Skyla had a fling but they’re still cool.
“Find someone dude, you gotta have sex at some point.” John chuckled taking my book away and putting it in my bag.
“I don’t see the big whoop about it, how can sticking my shlong in a girl make such a difference?” I muttered and John and Patrick lost it.
They blasted me with reasons and I covered my ears, instant regret from my question hitting. I stood grabbing my bag and walked to my class, there is one girl that I find very pretty, she’s in my first period.
“Do you guys know Thalia Queen?” I asked, John shook his head but Patrick nodded.
“She’s in one of my classes, never talks, always asleep, but never gets in trouble, she’s weird man,” Patrick said, I nodded, everything he said is true. “She’s sweet though, I got her as a partner and she was super helpful.”
“You mean she did the work for you?” I asked with a smile and he smirked, nodding with a finger on his lips.
“Why?” John asked finally getting back on track.
“I think she’s cute,” I stated and Patrick and John both snorted.
“You got Skyla Evans and you want Thalia Queen?” Patrick asked and I nodded, they both shook their heads.
“She’s pretty,” I stated, standing my ground.
“Skyla’s ass though,” Patrick stated, John agreed, I hissed as I cringed. Ew.
“Later,” I said to them and they muttered something in response, I walked into my first class and Thalia walked in a few moments later. No one ever noticed her, she always wore a hood, hiding her hair color, her eyes looked brown, her skin dark.
I’m going to talk to her, I decided, worst decision ever.
After school I walked to approach her, she walked faster than expected. Her pale blue hoodie was too big for her and her sweat pants were loose on her. She looked far too skinny, but I wanted to get to know her. I tried calling out her name but she didn’t respond.
She rounded the corner to a dark alley, I turned the corner and froze.
Two large men stood over her, she slouched back, looking scared. The men laughed, “This is Wolf? She’s just a girl! Please.” They chuckled, then I heard a click, I saw a golden gun with wolves engraved on the barrel appear in Thalia’s hand. She pointed the barrel at the man’s head and before he could react, she pulled the trigger. She pointed it at the other and did the same thing.
Then she turned and looked at me.
