Sophie jumped in her taxi and set her purse down next her. She sighed and clicked her seatbelt on. Sophie grabbed her phone and unlocked it.
“Where to?” Asked the taxi driver. His voice sounded vaguely familiar, but shook it off.
“Sorry! Oh, The mall.” She decided. After a long day of work, she needed to relax a little.
It had been four years since she ran from the Lost Cities. Fitz and her had gotten together after graduating Elite Levels, and broke up a year later. She left soon after, not just because the break up, because Keefe had been dating someone else and she realized that she really did love him. It would be useless to confess to him because if his relationship.
Keefe’s laughter and her friends smiles haunted her dreams every night. She hadn’t gotten good sleep for a very long time. She cried a lot too. She told herself every night: Get over it. It’s been four years. But getting over this seemed impossible.
She kept the picture of all her friends that Keefe made and her Home crystal in her purse. She’d never used used her crystal in 4 years, even though she’d become pretty close to using it a couple of times.
She pulled out the drawing of all her friends. Her eyes got glassy and a tear almost slipped down. Sophie rubbed her eyes and stuffed it back in her purse.
“Is anything bothering you ma’am?” Asked the driver. He was looking at her through the rear-view mirror.
The driver looked very familiar now that she thought of it.
“You have no idea,” she replied, and mentally slapped herself.
“That’s why I love this job. I get to hear so many stories. So, I can listen. The mall is a little more than 15 minutes away so you have some time.”
“Thanks…that’s very sweet. You ready?”
“Ready as I’ll ever be,”
“It’s not really today, it’s just a decision I made a while I can’t stop regretting. I ran away from a life I knew I loved, and now, if I go back, all my friends will grown up and probably have a family and…and they probably all forgot me,” my voice was getting really shaky.
“I’m sure they didn’t forget you,” said the taxi driver. “And who knows, they all might be waiting for you to come back.”
I shook my head. “The guy I loved was dating someone when I left. And it’s been 4 years. He probably has kids now.” I fumbled with my green tee-shirt.
“How can you be so sure?” He asked. I looked up and it hit me.
“Keefe Sencen?”
“The one and only!” Keefe lifted up his arms and looked back at me.
I sat there, in shock looking at the elf I’ve loved since forever.
“Watch out Keefe!” I said pointing to the window. The car was twisting around. And the last thing I heard was a loud crash and glass breaking before the world went dark.
