Chapter 1

“Girl, I got you so high and I know you like—”

Skai-

I let out a sigh as my headphones blasted Sean Paul’s “She doesn’t mind”. A song that had been on repeat since I arrived back at the mansion. Due to the different time zone between Anansi’s realm and Earth, it seemed like we hadn’t been gone for even 15 minutes.

“Skai… You’re doing it again…” my wolf Summer said.

I could hear the sadness in her voice as she spoke, and I knew what she meant…

But it’s not like I could help it…

It’s been 5 days since we got back and I haven’t left my room once. I even kicked Jesse out multiple times. I couldn’t remember when the last time I ate was and if you know me, you’d know how rare that was. My appetite could easily be compared to a Super Saiyan’s from Dragon Ball Z.

The conversation back at Anansi’s had gone way worse than I could ever have imagined.

After I told everyone what Ayo showed me, a huge fight broke out. Things were said and I couldn’t figure out how to get over them. I also told everyone about what my goddess had told me and, for some reason, that just made things worse.

Saying the whole “conversation” was a shitshow was the understatement of the year. A stray tear fell down my face as I remembered my family’s scoff after I told them that Lucian was still alive and searching for me. My uncle Lyan stopped talking to me after finding out that I was the sole reason my father was put into a coma.

I never knew he had no idea of what happened that day…

Why was it my fault, though? I was a dumb curious child! I actually thought I was trained enough to help!

I guess deep down, I always knew it was my fault. However, hearing Lyan breakdown into tears and tell me that the only reason he lost the two most important people in his life was because of me and my evil bloodline stung so much, I just ran away crying.

And here I lay 5 days later. Doing nothing but listening to music all day. I had been laying down in my bed so long that I had permanently engraved the outline of my body on my mattress. My pillowcase was wet from all the tears I had shed. I was terrified to look into a mirror, knowing I looked a mess.

I ignored the multiple knocks on my door, turning up the volume, trying to drown out the sounds of whoever it was. This was the fourth time that day that someone tried to talk to me and I had no idea who it was, but it was getting on my nerves.

They got louder, and I let out a groan and grabbed a pillow, and covered my head.

“I already told you to GO AWAY!”

Crash!

I turned around and stared in awe at my door.

Wood splinters flew into the air along with dust and debris as my door flew off its hinges and fell to the ground with a hard thud.

What the…

“I have knocked a thousand freaking times… Get up before I come over there and kick your self-pitying ass!”

That voice…

Bright purple eyes glared at me heatedly as the dust dissipated and revealed a very short girl with her hands on her hips and her long brown hair tied in a neat ponytail. My eyes widened and my heart skipped a beat.

“Is this how you welcome guests?”

“Jayde?”

“The one and only.” She said with a smirk.

I threw my pillow to the side and ran to her, engulfing her small frame in the tightest hug possible.

She probably couldn’t breathe, but she didn’t complain. She just hugged me back and let me cry into her shoulder.

After what felt like hours, I released her and asked her what she was doing here.

She gave me a small smile.

“Some asshole barged into the packhouse saying he lost his patience and said a bunch of things he didn’t mean and felt so bad that he had to send me as a messenger because he’s too ashamed to apologize himself.”

I wiped my eyes and looked at her.

“He shouldn’t be… He was right after all…”

“Actually, he wasn’t. Yeah, sure, you were pretty dumb back then and as stubborn as a mule, but you were just trying to help. But you were also an immature child and didn’t know the severity of your actions. Plus, it’s not our fault that our mother was a goddess. It’s not like we asked to be born into this. “

I tried to take in her words but still couldn’t help but feel guilty.

I guess it’ll take time…

“Stop that, Skai! I know what you’re doing. What you should be worried about right now is completing this mission and coming home! I’m telling you if I end up killing the triplets for getting on my nerves, that will actually be on you!”

I chuckled for the first time in what felt like years.

Jayde always knew how to cheer me up.

“Also Skai?”

“Yeah?”

“Will you please take a shower and get changed? You look a mess and it’s embarrassing…”

I gave her a blank stare.

“Jayde?”

She raised an eyebrow at me and grinned.

“Get out!” I yelled.

I started pushing her through the hole in the wall where my door had once been.

“Fine! I’ll leave, but take a shower and head downstairs and comb your hair, for god sake!”

She left, and I walked into my bathroom, closing the doors.

She was right… I had no right to mope around while both my own pack and the Rain Pack were being targeted by that devil.

Even though I still felt like an emotional wreck, I had to push through.

20 minutes later

I walked out of my room and headed to the first place my foot took me and I let out a nervous sigh and mustered up the courage to knock on the black door in front of me.

No answer…

I don’t know what I was thinking… Of course, he wasn’t going to open the door. I had treated him horribly these past few days.

My arm fell down slowly, and I sulked down the stairs and found my sister waiting for me. She sniffed the air.

“Much better. Let’s go!”

I raised an eyebrow at her.

“Where?”

“You’ll see!”

She grabbed my hand and dragged me to a sleek black car I had never seen before. My heart sank.

“I’m not getting in that car with you, you don’t even have a license!”

She scoffed.

“Are we going to just pretend that your license wasn’t suspended over twenty-eight times back in Ruiana?”

“Touche… Fine, but if you crash, I’m running away before the authorities arrive.”

She laughed and got into the driver’s seat.

I hopped in the passenger’s seat and strapped on my seatbelt, and we set off.

The car ride was quite uneventful. I filled my sister in on everything that had happened and she told me about what shenanigans the triplets had been up to.

The car slowed down to a halt, and the keys jangled as she took them out of the ignition.

“C’mon, you’ll love this!” She shot me a wide smile and got out.

My eyes widened when I got out of the car. I had been so distracted I didn’t even notice she had been driving toward Ringwood Prep.

“Jayde? Why the hell are we at my school? I hate this place.”

“Trust me, dummy,” she said as she walked towards the football field.

I groaned and followed her.

I picked up a lot of familiar scents upon arriving at the field, but one made my heart speed up and my blood rush through my body.

Our eyes immediately locked onto each other, and for a moment, the world around me disappeared.

His beautiful icy blue-grey eyes held worry, anger, and sadness behind them.

“I’m sorry…” I mind-linked.

“Glad to see you’re back…” He mind-linked back.

His voice sounded off. No warmth, no emotion, nothing.

Just as I was about to mind link him again, what seemed like an entire football team trampled upon me and engulfed me in an enormous hug, bringing me back to reality.

I soon heard a familiar clinging and clanking sound as the weight of the bodies got lighter and lighter.

“I told you brutes not to pounce on her! She’s of no use to us with broken bones!” Greta’s voice yelled out as she pounded everyone with her metal pan.

Once the wolves retreated, she approached me. My hands immediately flew up to my head in cautionary measures.

“Wait, Greta no!”

Her kind eyes looked at me and she gave me a warm smile before embracing me in a motherly hug.

“Don’t worry, my child. I’m just glad you’re ok. You can fill me in later. Let’s get you something to eat before training.”

Training?

I looked around to notice that the entire field had been turned into training grounds. A huge wooden, military-style climbing wall. There were rows and rows of top-tier weaponry. Everyone wore athletic wear and the entire guard was there, ready to train.

I looked down at my jeans and scanty flip flops, then glared daggers at Jayde.

“Why the hell didn’t you tell me we were training?”

She smirked and threw a bag at the gym bag at me.

Don’t worry, I got you covered. Go get changed in the locker rooms.”

“I don’t even know where those are!”

Jayde shrugged.

“Me neither.”

I glanced at Greta.

“Don’t look at me. I’m an old lady. I don’t go here.”

I caught sight of bright pink hair running up to us.

“Jemma! I can take you!” Brianna said through pants.

She looked exhausted. Dark bags under her eyes though those might be caused by the sweat dripping down her face and staining it with her heavy mascara. I forgot humans sweat so much. It's not like we didn't, however, it took a lot for a wolf-blood to break out a sweat.

Greta shook her head.

“No way you look like you’re about to pass out any second. Why don’t you sit down and have a rest? I’m sure Jesse can take her. Jesse, Take Jemma to the changing rooms!”

My eyes widened, and I shot Greta a horrified look as she plastered a sly smile on her face.

Jesse placed his fingers on his temples and muttered a cold “follow me” under his breath, accompanied by a huff.

My heart dropped.

Yeah, he hates me…

“You told him to fuck off and leave us alone... Of course, he does!” Summer scolded.

My eyes found their way to the floor as I somberly followed him.

He didn’t say a word as he led me to the changing room. He didn’t even bother to turn around.

We were soon standing in front of a small building behind the school. It looked like a brick shed and had a bright pink sign that read “ladies” on it.

“Here we are. I’m going back to the training fields. I imagine you can find your way back on your own…”

His voice was so cold it brought shivers up my spine and my hair stand up. He turned around and started heading back.

“Say something, you dumbass!” Summer yelled.

“Jesse wait!”

He stopped in his tracks but didn’t turn around.

Shit… I didn’t think he’d actually stop. I didn't really think of anything to say...
