The airport pulsed with activity as planes took off and some new ones landed on the runway. The sound of the flight announcements and the chatter of conversations filled the air, making it lively with energy. The floors echoed with the footsteps as passengers carried their duffle bags and dragged their baggage along them. The sweet scent of coffee and pastries from the cafes lingered in the air.
Outside the airport, taxis honked impatiently, some drivers waiting for their passengers to drop them at their desired destinations, while others being in a hurry to drop off their passengers at the airport. Amidst all these chaos, Jungkook stood still in a corner. His hoodie was pulled up over his head, shadowing his face and his backpack rested on his shoulders. His hands fumbled with the handle of his suitcase as he waited eagerly for that one person he needed to meet before he left. That one person without whom, his life was about to turn miserable.
He sighed as he checked the time on his wrist watch. He looked around for her in the crowd. But his eyes grew sad when he didn't see the person he was eager to see. It was disheartening and he was getting impatient. He huffed, "It's almost time... Where are you-"
"Kookiee!"
His head snapped to the direction of the voice, his gaze softening as she came to his view. She came running towards him, her face slightly flushed from the small run. He chuckled and extended his arms, pulling her into his tight embrace.
Seohwa nuzzled her face into his neck and wrapped her arms around him tightly. She whispered, "Sorry... I'm late."
"It's alright, babe," he said, pecking the top of her head.
She pulled back slightly from his warm embrace and stared into his doe eyes, the colour of her face fading, as the realisation hit her that why she was there. "So... you're really leaving me?" she asked, her voice soft, barely above a whisper.
Jungkook sighed and looked away. He felt a pang of helplessness and he didn't want to meet her eyes, "I have to, babe. I don't want to leave you. It's too painful for me to even think about it. But... I have no choice."
Seohwa sighed and looked down. It was hard for her to digest the fact that the love of her life was really leaving her for another country and that, he would be miles away. Jungkook smiled sadly as he called her out, "Look at me... babe."
She slowly looked up to meet his soft, loving gaze. Jungkook stared into her deep, brown eyes for a moment, as if he was trying to convey something. He searched through the pocket of his hoodie and pulled out something radiant. Her eyebrows shot up and her eyes carried a glint of curiosity.
"Give me your hand," he said. He took her soft hand in his and caressed it. He traced her fingers with his thumb and chuckled. He then, slid a shiny, diamond ring down her ring finger.
Her eyes widened as she stared at the shiny diamond ring on her finger, speechless. She gasped, "What is it for, Kook?"
"Ring of Promise," he said. He nibbled onto his lower lip as he raised his left hand, "I've worn one too."
"Promise?" she asked, confused as to what he was referring to.
He chuckled and nodded, "Yes, promise," he caressed her hand as he spoke softly, "Promise that... once I return from Germany, you'll be Jeon Seohwa, not Kim Seohwa. We'll get married and our love will keep blooming forever. No matter how long it takes, I'll be back. For you," he stared into her eyes, his gaze solemn.
Seohwa let out a shaky breath. Her heart fluttered at his sincere promise. Her eyes welled up with tears as she stared into his eyes. He gently placed his hand on her cheek and leaned closer. "I'll miss you... Wait for me, please...," he whispered, pain of separation and guilt for leaving her, evident in his voice.
She nodded as tears streamed down her cheeks, "I will. Even if it takes decades for you to return, I'll wait. I'll wait for you till the end of time...!"
"I love you, Seohwa," saying this, he pulled her closer and closed the gap between them by capturing her plump lips into a passionate kiss.
"Some promises are written in love, but destined to be broken by fate."
